My maternal grandparents were Jorgen and Thekla Nilsen Aagre. I am expecting a visit 9/22/11 from the current occupants of the ancestral Aagre home at Molland, Grimstad, Norway. Jorgen Aagre was the youngest child in his family, his father Tellef died of appendicitis when he was a baby. Jorgen's eldest brother, Johannes Aagre, inherited the family home. Now Johannes grandson, also named Johannes Aagre, is touring the US with his wife Vivien, 14 year old twin sons and 12-1/2 year old twin daughters. I'm looking forward to meeting them!
Jorgen Aagre settled on Staten Island around the turn of the 20th century, met Thekla Nilsen (from Bie in Grimstad) at a Norwegian Lutheran Church in Port Richmond, where they married on January 12, 1907. Their daughter Lillian was born on Staten Island October 26, 1907, Jorgen's birthday. Son Curt (Trygve Engman) was born in Grimstad, Norway October 11, 1909, and son John (Jens Burger) was born on Staten Island January 15, 1913.
The Carl Aagre referred to in another post was the cousin of Lillian, Curt and John. He got decompression sickness, or the bends, in his early twenties while working on deep tunnels in New York City and returned to Norway to die.
