Do you have any other info on Leontine? My gggrandfather was Jean Marie Verges (the baker, not the bartender) b. 1846/48 in France, d. 1894 in New Orleans, md. Marie Louise Eymas 1878 in New Orleans. Their son, Leon Lucien Veges, b. 1889, d. 1964 in New Orleans, is my ggrandfather; and his only daughter, Leonie Theodosia Verges, b. 1913 in New Orleans, d. 2005, is my maternal grandmother. She raised 12 children on a farm in Hancock County, MS. My mother is her oldest child.
I have been searching and searching for any info on Jean Marie and his connection to any Verges living in New Orleans during his lifetime. Can you help?

What about Leontine Verges? Did she have any family either in N.O. when she immigrated or who came to America with her? I am desperately trying to connect anyone to my gggrandfather, Jean Marie Verges (b. 1846 in France, d. 30 Jul 1894 in N.O.) He married Marie Louise Eymas. He was a baker. Any connections?

I WAS SEARCHING THE WEB FOR THE LOCATION OF THE REASSIGNED HAM RADIO CALL SIGN THAT A FRIEND USED TO HAVE. MY NAME IS WALTER KOOY, I AM A RETIRED NUCLEAR ENGINEER/PSYCHOLOGIST. I MAY BE SOMEHOW CONNECTED TO THE ABADIES. IN 1956, I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN TOMALES CALIFORNIA. FLETCHER WORKED AT THE RCA RADIO STATION IN POINT REYES STATION, VERY NEAR THE COAST LINE. IT COMMUNICATED ALL THE OFFICIAL US RADIO TRAFFIC (CODE) EAST. I KNEW OF FLETCHER THROUGH HIS SON, ROLF, WHO WAS YEAR BEHIND ME IN SCHOOL. I WAS ABLE, THROUGH FLETCHER, OBTAIN A JOB AT THE RADIO STATION FOR THE SUMMER. IN JUNE OF THAT YEAR, THE SON ROLF DIED WHILE ON THE BEACH. HOW I DO NOT KNOW. I LODGED WITH THE ABADIES FOR THE SUMMER, BECOMING VERY CLOSE TO THEM, LIKE A SUBSTITUTE SON. THE WIFE WAS CALLED LILIAN. THEY HAD A YOUNGER DAUGHTER SALLY.
FLETCHER WAS A HAM RADIO OPERATOR AND MEMBER OF MARS. MILITARY AMATEUR RADIO SYSTEM. HE HAD BUILT A VERY POWERFUL STATION NEAR HIS HOME OF SOME 5000 WATTS POWER. HE WAS ABLE TO REACH ALL OVER THE WORLD WITH MORSE CODE.
FLETCHER STATRED HAM INTEREST IN SAN-FRANCISCO WITH A SPARK GAP TRANSMITTER. WHEN I STAYED WITH THEM, THERE WAS NO INTERNET, THE LARGE TRANSMITTING TUBES HUMMED WITH POWER WHEN HE TRANSMITTED. IN THE EVENING BOTH FLETCHEN AND LILLIAN WOULD BE IN THE LIVING ROOM READING AND LILIAN WOULD SAY, "FLETCHER, I THINK CHARLIE IS CALLING". CHARLIE WAS A RADIO FRIEND WHO WAS A RADIO OPERATOR ON A MERCHANT MARINE SHIP. SURE ENOUGH, WHEN FLETCHER KEYED ON CHARLIE WOULD BE ON AIR SOME WHERE EAST OF INDONESIA. LILIAN WAS VERY PSYCHIC. LATER IN TIME THEY MOVED TO EASTERN OREGON, REDMOND, AND I VISITED THERE OFTEN. I KNOW FLETCHER DIED BUT LILIAN MAY STILL BE LIVING. (IN A REST HOME MAYBE) THEY WERE WONDERFUL PEOPLE. SALLY MARRIED AND HAD A CHILD, BUT I REMEMBER A DIVORCE. IF THESE ARE THE RIGHT PEOPLE, I HOPE THIS SHEDS SOME LIGHT ON THEIR LIFE. DR. WALTER KOOY PhD

I can't answer your question. You are correct in that Romain is not a common name so that it is very possible that he was a descendent of the Romain mentioned in my posting.

Has anyone traced your Abadie line back to see if Romain is an ancestor?

In long ago France Abadie, D'Abadie and Labadie were used interchangeably.
ABADIE, John Oregon 1918

I found the name of John ABADIE on a list of names of people who died at the Oregon State mental Hospital in Salem, Oregon. His ashes are still at the hospital with a large group of other unclaimed people who are kept in labeled urns in an abandoned part of the Oregon State Hospital. His ashes can be claimed by family members who have obtained his death certificate and such from the state of Oregon.
This is his info:

ABADIE, John Vol.2G 12-30-1918 (age not given)

He was an issue of Pierre's first marriage and was born in France.

Does anyone have any information which will offer any insight on this family?

Hi Jeremy, So nice to hear from you. See your name often in connection with the Abadie family. My grand-father's name was Edward H. Abadie, and he was a carpenter. Although he was born in NO he married a Fontenot from Reserve. They were then married in NO. Was just in NO and Reserve in October still looking for his parents or any relatives. While driving up the River Road to Reserve saw many signs for a Dee Abadie for Parish President. Got out and took pictures of the signs and then was sent an article from the local paper that she became Parish President. Another woman wrote me about her new book about the River Road. Mary Gehman.
Was told there is an Abadie Street or Road right off the River Road but didn't find it.
Have connected with several new cousins on the Fontenot and Perilloux side but not a trace of the Abadie side. On another trip to NO a cousin took me on the same Ferry you are talking about from Reserve to Edgard. It was quite an experience. Wanted to see St. John the Baptist Church there. Took lots of pictures. It is just beautiful. Of course went into the Cemetery for a while and did find some Abadie names but not my grand father's father Adolph. The archives in Baton Rouge have no record of his death.
My grandfather and his wife are buried in Cook County IL.
His father Adolph is the man that has become such a brick wall. He was married to Josephine Burns Mallory in 1880 and that is it. No place of birth, date of birth or death date or place. Thank you for your thoughtfullness.

Thanks again for the thought. Was always told all Abadies are related however I really don't know how they could be.
My Adolphe married Josephine who was from Natchez. Am beginning to wonder if he maybe didn't originate from MS.
It seems strange that he appears in not one census anywhere. Am now starting to work with the newly remodeled Family Research Center about 25 miles away.
When married he lived in NO. Josephine said he was deceased in 1897. The family story is that he was poisoned.
Why is there no death cert. then. Am going to start looking at court records of succession around that time. My father also said Abadie family related lived in the French Quarters when he was young.
Will just keep hunting.

Katherine

Dawn,

Sorry, but this is not in my direct line. My gg grandfather Francois Andre Abadie born 1823 Campuzan, France, migrated to the USA in 1849 aboard the Americas. He settled in Wallace, La a small community on the west bank of the Miss River next to St James Parish and died there in 1894. Another Abadie was on that ship, however I have been unable to trace his activities in the USA.

Jeremy

Hello,

I think we are talking about the same Jules Abadie. As far as I know he was married to Frances/Francine Maumus, possibly in France where they were both born. He had a son, Charles, and a daughter, Marie. There may also have been a son named Henri who died as a child.

Charles Abadie married Esther Gerard. I think they moved to the Baton Rouge area but I could me mistaken. I have Esther's obituary if you wouldl like the info included.

Hello Marie,
Thank you for your reply. It has been so long since there has been any more postings for the Abadie site. I was so happy to hear from another Abadie. Thanks for your Abadie info also.
From sending many inquiries to Baton Rouge for my father's family this is what I have so far:
My father was Edward Harry Abadie, Jr. b. 11-19-12 d.12-19-99. Buried in Milwaukee, Wisc. Born in New Orleans, LA
My grand father was Edward H. Abadie, Sr. b. 4-14-1889, d. 10-18-55 buried in Chicago, IL. In the 1900 Census for New Orleans I found my grandfather and his brother August (born in 1887) living with their mother and a William McCurdy. Grandfather's father was Adolph Abadie who was then deceased. Grandfather's mother's name was Josephine Burns who was supposedly from Natchez, Miss. IN 1900 my great grandmother Josephine Burns Abadie McCurdy had been married about one year. Adolph's parents names were Auguste and Jeannie Abadie. Remember my father saying that his grandfather Adolph had died at a very young age because he was poisoned at work for his job. Have not been able to find a birth or death date for either of my great grand parents. Haven't been able to find my grandfather's only brother August either. My father had also said his Abadie Family originated from Bordeaux, France.
Please keep in touch and if I find any more information out I will be sure to let you know.
Thanks,

Katherine Abadie Heichler
Hi Dawn,

What a nice surprise to hear from you. Thanks for some Abadie Family info. I will keep your info in mind while I continue my search. This is what I have so far but have not been able to get past my great-grandfather.
My father: Edward H. Abadie, Jr. b.11-19-1912 d.12-19-1999 Buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
His father: Edward H. Abadie, Sr. b.4-14-1889 in New Orleans, LA (have birth cert.) d. 10-18-1955 and buried in Cook County, IL. Edward, Sr. had one brother that I know of.
His name was August b.2-6-1887 (have birth cert.) Found him on the 1920 Chicago Census. Also in the house was a Coreane Abadie (?) Coreane was 30 yrs. old at this time and said she was born in LA however cannot find a record of her birth in New Orleans.
Parents of Edward Sr. and August are Adolph Abadie and Josephine Burns. Married in New Orleans on 2-24-1880. On marriage cert. Adolph's parents are listed as Jeannie and August Abadie.
The family story is that Josephine ran away from an orphanage in Natchez, Miss. and believe Adolph Abadie and his family might have come from MIss. also. My father said Adolph was poisoned by someone at work for his job and on the birth cert. for Edward, Sr. and August their mother Josephine had "father deceased" in 1897. However the Parish of New Orleans has no record of his death.
So right now I am at a complete stand-still because I cannot find any birth or death information about Adolph.
Will let you know if I find any connecting info. If you should find any information regarding any of these Abadies I really would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks again,
Katherine

HI Dawn,

Thanks for your Abadie family info. I have read this story about the two brothers before and wondered how that can happen. At that age you would certainly think the brothers would have stayed together. Do you have the birth date or certificate for Louis? Do you know what city in France they came from. Because of their close age, you might find the records of both their births in the same place. Also I would check out the city of New Orleans Message Board and the State of LA Message Board. I have been spending more time looking into the census lately too. Is it possible that they came off the boat and stayed with Abadie Family who they were possibly related to that helped them in New Orleans? With all of my hunting, I cannot get past my grandparents. It just seams the Abadies are in one place once and then they disappear. I just found on one Census my grandfather's brother states the parents were from Mississippi. Was also a Coreane Abadie living with him. It was certainly an unexpected twist but hasn't helped in finding anybody so far. Just a new lead.
While I keep looking for my Abadie family, will keep your information in mind and if I find any information I will certainly let you know.
Katherine
Hello Thomas,

Always enjoy hearing from another Abadie. Especially one from the area where my father was born and raised.
This past October I returned to New Orleans and spent some time at the Library there doing research on my father's family.
Went up to Reserve and across the river to St. John's Catholic Church at Edgar. Spent some time at the Church Cemetery. It was just beautiful. Took alot of pictures and now that I am home enjoy looking at them often. Did find some Abadies in the Cemetery there but still cannot connect them with my father's family.
My problem is that I cannot find any family members past my grand-parents. My father Edward, Jr. was an only child however his father Edward, Sr. had one brother named August who I found on the Census for 1900. Just recently I received the birth certificates for both of them from Baton Rouge. Their parents were Josephine Burns Abadie and Adolphe Abadie. Also have the marriage certificate for Josephine and Adolphe. The only information I got from these records is that Adolphe's parents were Jeannie Abadie and Auguste Abadie.
Adolphe died before 1890. Am trying to find a date to obtain a death certificate.
Does your grandfather Simeon Ramond Abadie have any relation to the Abadies above? Does he know of any of these Abadie family members?
Will continue to search and thank you for your reply.

Katherine Abadie Heichler

The surname Sireix occurs in nineteenth century New Orleans, LA records. Does anyone know anything about this line, which I take to come originally from the village in France of the same name?
