Actually, the Filipino's could be related. See, the Philippines was controlled by Spain prior to the Spanish/American war. A "Spanish" Abarca could have been married to a filipina, thus the surname there.

I have one Latino Abarca in my files. Sandy Vega Abarca married to Gary David Mizrahi. Any connection?

I went on
http://home.netscape.com/genealogy/index.html?cp=hom09c6.3
and found listings of Abarca's from Spain. if you haven't
gone to the site, maybe you should check it out.
Abarca from Phillipines

I am looking for information on my husband's family. His paternal grandmother was Gregoria Abarca, who married into the Laborte family. It is told that she was killed during the Japanese invasions of the Phillipines in WWII (before U.S. involvement). Her sons Charles Abarca Laborte Sr. and Emmett Abarca Laborte survived, along with a sister who's name I do not know. Does anyone recognize these names? My e-mail address is mtnghost@email.com. Salamat!
