Is there any mention of them in this book written by Albert Abaire? Thanks! Lisa (lisa@simplylisa.net)

I think 'Thursa' is actually 'Theresa', rendered kind of phonetically in the census records as 'Treesa'. That's how my grandmother always pronounced the name, so I could easily see it being written that way by a census taker. I believe your Eliza Abare is my great grandmother - She married Edward Gordon of Victory Mills NY. I knew Tressa/Theresa was her mother's name, but I never knew her father's. (My grandmother married Eliza's son Irid; she was also of French Canadian stock, from the Victory Mills/Schuylerville area, which is why I make that suggestion about Tressa/Theresa - my grandmother didn't speak French, but her father and his family did, and she did have some French inflections in her speech.) My info on their ancestors is a bit sketchy, but I can give you info about their descendants if you're interested.

Nelson Abare of Detour, Michigan in 1898

Saturday April 16th 1898 Page 2
Detour

The wedding bells rang joyously at Detour, Sunday morning last, at 9 o'clock, when Miss Lillie Jandreau and Nelson Abare were united in matrimony by the Rev. Fr. w. A. Mtynarexyk, at the Roman Catholic church. The bride was attired in navy blue trimmed with pearl grey, carried white carnations and was attended by her sister Miss Maggie. Samuel Paul waited on the groom. Owing to the absence of the church organist Mr. Abare was compelled to leave the church without experiencing the joy of a wedding march. The church was filled with people of every denomination to witness the marriage. The groom looked swell in his light house keeper's uniform.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Newspaper Birth, Marriage and Death Notices."
ABAR / ABARE RELATION

I would like to note that the last name Abar and Abare are very similar, and this is not by accident. i have seen in my studies the same people using this last name both ways. i am not sure if this was some type of type-o or are name change on purpose. i would like to inform "Abares" to also take a look at some "Abars" to see if there is a connection, because i do see one indeed. it is common for last names to be mixed up like this, and will throw off a genealogist many times before their research is correct. But part of perfecting your genealogical skills is to be able to read between the lines and try all possibilities. I am a direct decendant of Clara Abar/Abare. Born in 1869, in St. Lawrence County, NY. Mother and Father: Maggie and Leonard. If you have any questions/comments... please email me at msylvester713@aol.com

I am related to this Joseph Abare. The last name was commonly spelt as either Abar or Abare. look it up in the 1880 census record for New York. if you look there where Joseph is.. his parents were Leonard and Maggie [maiden name unknown] Leonard was from Canada, and maggie we believe to belong of some Indian decendancies and Irish.. i have so much work with ancestry to do that my time has been very limited as to how far i can trace Maggie. the last name Abar is Spanish: probably a topographic name, from Basque abar ‘foliage’. as well as in French meaning "herbert". We suspect Leo to be French Canadian. Maggies parents were both also Canadian. I have not started deeply reseaching her yet. I am a direct decendant of Clara Abar.. the younger sister of Joseph Abare/Abar. I beleive we can work together on this, since we are researching the same people. please email me back at Msylvester713@aol.com.

Their firstborn son, also named Stephen Moses was my great grandfather.
I'm trying to find out where Marie(Mary) Abare is buried.
Jacques
Marie Tremblay was the widow of Stephen Toussaint Moise/Moses. The Tremblay & Moise families were from the Ste.Martine de Chateauguay area. These families moved to New York,Clinton area abt. 1860. I recently found out that Marie remarried Stephen Abare and they had 5 or 6 children. Marie was born April 1854,dau. of Beloni Tremblay & Julienne Moise.
Marie & Stephen Abare's first son was also named Stephen, b. June 1886 in N.Y.
The Moise family name was orignally Dupuis. One of the sons changed his name to Moise, then the name changed to Moses in the U.S. Are you from Québec? I'm living in Québec. I am trying to locate which cemetary in the Malone,NY area Marie & Stephen Abare are buried. I found Stephen, Marie & their youngest daughter, Melinda in the 1910 Franklin County,N.Y. census. When Melinda Abare married, her name changed to Cox. I have the Abare children's dates of birth, and some dates of death. I can send this info.if you want it. Thank you. Sandy

He married my greatgreatgrandmother, Marie Tremblay Moise/Moses around 1885. They had six children, Stephen, John, Leo, David, Melinda and Alvenis or Sylvenis. I noticed your inquiry regarding Helene Abare on the Ancestry message board.

I am sending this information to you however I don't know if it is of interest.

Helene M. Abare Age: 41 Died: 30 September 1912 in Hudson, N.H. Her father was John Stanion and Mother was Louise Knapp

There are no other entries for Births or marriages with the last name of Abare. The phone book for the area does not contain other families of Abare.

Hopefully this will help someone out there.

I am not related to this family line.

Good luck in your research

A.
Dear DS,

Having being brought up on Ticonderoga I know that there are only two Abare family lines in the area. My Grandfather Doras (Doe) Abare and Grandmother (Belle) have lived all their lives in the Ti area as have most of our families. Also in Ti, are our distant relations, also Abares. The ones that are my fathers (Richard) age mid-70s, are Dorothy and Bud Abare. Most of their families have also pretty much remained in Ti area. My fathers brothers and sisters are Alva (deceased about 1 yr ago), Gordon, Thomas, and Judy.

Janice,
Love to know if there is anything in your book about any of my ancestors. I know that some lived in Chazy at various times. Joseph Abare and Harriett Cisse married, around 1840, possibly in Canada, and then moved to Chazy. Children included Joseph (1841), Adalade (1845), Nichola (1846), Charles (July 1847 (my great grandfather), Leodit (1850), Adaliine (1851), Mary (1852), Elizabeth (Feb.6, 1853), Philippe (Jan. 24, 1856), Jean Henry (Apr. 8, 1858), and Emery (Mar. 1862).
My great grandfather, Charles, married Catherine Wemet (or Ouimet) around 1867. Several years later, they were married in the church, in Plattsburg. They had 3-4 children before leaving Chazy. Children were Delphine, Caroline, William, Charles, Joseph Albert, Louise Ida, M. Louise, Adeline, Jennifer, and my grandmother, Marie Elizabeth.
If there is anything in the book about my family, I'm very interested in it. Willing to pay for photo copies or any expenses.

Julie
