The last memory I have of my Father was in 1983. I was 9 years old. His name is Ken "Skinny Kenny" Abbett. I know he went from Texas back to Indiana eventually. I know he spent some time in jail. And, I know he had friends who took him in when the weather wasn't good. I think he may have lived behind a bar/ restaurant. He has a brother named Frank. Oh, and he passed away on his birthday, 4/27/1997. Anybody with information, please reply...Thank you.

Hi JAJ and any GA Abbett’s researchers,

Your posting responding to one from Natalie about Peter J. Abbett is interesting.

I realize that Abbett and Abbott are interchanged frequently and I shouldn't attach too much importance on Peter J. Abbett's surname spelling. However "Abbett" was not the one most used.

My gg-grandfather was Littleton Berry Abbett, a physician, b. 10 August 1825 in GA and married to Sarah Caroline Land Jan. 1950. A few months later, he and his new bride were visiting his sister and her husband in Pike Co. GA, as reported on the 1850 Census for Pike Co. She was Elizabeth "Eliza" Abbett, b. ca 1819 and married to Joshua Callahan. Both families later migrated to Tallapoosa Co. AL.

Do you have the names of all of Peter's offspring? Elizabeth's d.o.b. seems to fit the marriage date, given by Natalie, as 1818.

A cousin, and descendant of Littleton Berry Abbett, did a very detailed history of his descendants, entitled, "The Abbett Family Report" in 1992 but all are stumped on the identity of his parents and other siblings, if any. Should there be any likelihood of a connection with your line, I will gladly share any portion of my database with you.

Again, thank you very much and especially your offer to share info.

My email address: jharriswATnetzero.com. Abbett, head, age 42, age at first marriage - 28, MO/KY/KY, laborer, general farm
Hattie R., wife, age 30, age at first marriage - 14, MO/MO/MO
Milton T., son, age 14, MO/MO/MO

Hattie was in Wichita KS in Feb 1945 when her mother died and listed as Mrs. E. M. Abbett. When she died in 1979 she was listed as Ruth King, with a surviving daughter Lois Abbot. I also have info that she married a man named Huenergardt.

I was told my Nettie might be from the line of Peter J. Abbett and Amanda Dillon of Campbell County, GA. I figure her to be born between 1850 - 55. The census says she was born in GA. she married Adam Edgar Walker in Feb 1871 and settled in Etowah County AL. She had four children, Irene b 1872, Donald Q b 1874, my ancestor Samuel Henry b 1876/7 and Harry b 1878.
I have seen messages regarding Peter J. Abbett and his son Walton but I can't see to find the names of Walton's children to see if Laura A. "Nettie is among them. Also, did Peter J. have any other children than Walton? Thanks, Pam at Pamelamix@aol.com

I wrote a three page paper on walton and family in the mid eighties, after spending countless, but rewarding, hours in research and filed it in the state archives. That may be what you have. Some packets were given to family that included copies of Walton's correspondence and his taking the oath to the confederacy. Most of those copies were dated 1/29/85. Let me know if you learn more. Thanks
