George and Sarah were my 6th great grandparents. His father was known as George of Rowley, MA. and his grandfather was Morris. This is a very distinguished line of the Abbott family. Morris was Lord Mayer of London and a director of the East India Company. His brother George was Archbishop of Canterbury, and one of the large group of authors of the King James Bible. There was a 3rd brother, also a church leader.

He was often known as George Jr when he moved to Andover MA, not because he was the son of George but to distinguish him from other George Abbotts who were older.

My mother was an Abbott. Another George Abbott, likely a cousin or nephew of George of Rowley, who was known as George of Andover, MA, married to Hannah Chandler. My family is more directly tied to this George, but because the early colonists intermarried so frequently, descendants of the 2 families married and brought the 2 lines together in my tree.

In fact there seem to be dozens of George Abbotts and it is indeed hard to keep them all straight. I wish they had been more creative with the naming of their offspring!
