Thomas was married to my husband's Great Aunt Mary Tanury. I actually have a picture of their son Albert, along with Mary's brother's two sons Assad and Samuel Tanury. Albert Abdo and Assad were both b. in 1922 in NY. Thomas died in 1945 and is buried at St. Josephs Cemetery in Yorkville, Oneida County, NY. Your Nasemi was the oldest being b. in 1920. It appears that you are related to my husband. My email address is tanury89@comcast.net I know the Tanury's came from Zahle area and it appears.

Do you have any further information on Thomas Abdo? My great grandmother was Nejeme Abdo from Furzol, just north of Zahle. I suspect that many people said they came from Zahle because it was the closet large city known to others. Your Thomas and Mary named their first daughter Necemi, which I suspect is another phonetic spelling of the same name, which may be common name - I don't know.

They are also in the 1930 census, as I'm sure you've found:
http://content.ancestry.com/browse/view.aspx?dbid=6224&i...

Thanks, tfarris

We found Jackson/Chacon on ancestry.com and there is a place that says something like "others looking for this person" and linrabdo's name was listed. That's what sent us to this forum. Do you know who linrabdo is and how I can contact that person?

Hi There,
Thank you for replying. Yes Edward Abdo was called Nippy. His older daughter Linda just passed away a few weeks ago from Cancer and her daughter passed away last fall in Florida. She passed away in her sleep, my sister in law Bonnie (Bonita Louise Abdo)Wilcox never has got back to me on what was the cause of the death of her niece. Bonnie's brothers names are Ferris and Edward Jr. Bonnie married my brother James Wilcox in 1966 in Springville, New York where Bonnie and her parents lived. They have three children Tony James Wilcox, Michael John Wilcox and Tina Louise Wilcox. You can e-mail me at okgranny@kanokla.net.
Hi;
Wow I never saw your reply. I have alot of family pics that Kens sisters have given me. Ken was Fred & Ruth Abdos son but was adopted by William and Clara Abdo (Freds older brother). Ken thinks that Edward Abdo would have been the Uncle they called Uncle Nippy. Do you know if that is right. If you check out the ellis island site I found Rose and Abrahams records on a manifest when they came over and original names. Let me know if you need any thing or would like copies on the pics.

Hello,
I have just started researching my sister in laws Abdo family and saw your message. Her father was Edward Abdo, born to Abraham and Rose Abdo of Olean, Catt. Co., NY. There were 11 children total and in 1930 census it shows a Fred Abdo in their family he would have been born about 1926. Edward passed away in 1996 in Delevan, New York. He had four children. One lives in California and the other three live in New York.

Abdo

I am looking for anyone with a surname/last name Abdo from Ferzol/Furzol (near Zahle) in what is now Lebanon. I believe that some Abdo's from Ferzol may have moved to Mankato, Blue Earth, Minnesota, because I have found WWI draft registration cards for WIlliam Abdo (b. 1895) and Sam Abdo (b. 1888), both of Mankato, stating they were born in Ferzol, which is a small village near Zahle.

William's card states he lives on James Avenue, Mankato, and is employed by N. Abdo, whom I suspect is Naiff Abdo who owned and operated Abdo's Store on James Avenue in Mankato. William had many siblings. I do not think Sam is from the same immediate family - he was a shoemaker.

I believe these Abdo's may be related (perhaps cousins) to Mary Farris, nee Nishmay Abdo (b. app. 1865), daughter of Michael (Mikhool) Abdo, a mill man from Ferzol, and his wife Nustas Abounajem, also from Ferzol.

Mary (nee Abdo) and husband Rachid Assad Ferris emigrated in 1892, going first to Duluth, MN, then to Wahpeton, ND, then to Williston, ND. Mary had one brother Abraham (b. app. 1860), who stayed in Ferzol and had many children, including Serrea, Mitrie, Nustas, Abdo, George, and Michiel, all of whom were born in or around Ferzol.

Any information as to descendants would be appareciated.

Tricia:
You asked about the antiochian orthodox church - from what you have said, it sounds like your family may have been Melkite, which is Eastern Orthodox.

I have a Michael Abdo m. Nustas Abounajem around 1865 in or around the Zahle area - probably Ferzol, if not in Zahle. Michael owned a grain mill; they had two children of which I am aware - Abraham and Nishmay (Mary).

Abraham had six children - Mitrie, Nustas, Serrea, Abdo, George and Michiel - as far as I am aware, they stayed in Lebanon.

Nishmay married Rachid Assad (Richard Farris from Terbol, just south of Zahle) in app 1885 in Ferzol, and had two children before coming to the U.S.

If this sounds familiar, let me know.
Samuel Abdo; born about 1880 in Lebanon

I am looking for information on Samuel Abdo or his wife Selma (Zint) Abdo (born 1885 in Lebanon). Samuel came to America via Jamaica sometime between 1904 and 1911 and was naturalized in 1914. Selma came in about 1912. I'm not sure if they were married before or after they arrived. They settled in Seattle, WA, and had 7 children; my wife's mother was Frances Abdo. I'm not sure what their names may have been translated from in Lebanon. Any help would be greatful.

abdo family

hello, i am still searching for Abdo family. I have recently found information that might link another family to mine. my great grandfather Charles D.Abdo, married my great grandmother Mary Anton around 1904. I was told that he was from syria, but the more i investigated i found that he was probably from Zahle, Lebanon. I recently visited and some very helpful residents showed me around. Charles parents were, ?Richard and Edith, obviously Americanized. They started in West Virginia and ended in Toledo, Ohio. Mary was born in Beruit, Lebanon, and she had a brother David. If anyone has any info i would appreciate your help. I do have pictures... I have read that the last name is a Muslim word... but my family is antiochian orthodox? any one with information on that would also be appreciated.
