9. Thomas Quincy Abdon b Mar 24, 1872 (Mar 24, 1875), IN, m Lydia (Eliza) M. Moody, 1890, d Dec 20, 1928, Lawrenceburg, Dearborn Co., IN, buried Greendale Cemetery, Lawrenceburg, Dearborn Co., IN. In the 1900 Census, listed as a blacksmith in Jefferson Twp, Switzerland Co., IN.

Interesting.
Armor Abdon

I've been working on figuring out Armor and his life for awhile now. And although I have more on him now than when I started, there are still holes that I would like to see filled.

1860 & 1870 he was a farmhand for the Pate family in Dearborn County.

Was a Civil War Vet (hope to one day get my hands on his pension file)

Feb 11, 1875, he married Harriet (Hattie) Durham/Durman

1880 - He & his family were in Lawrenceburgh, Dearborn Co.

Mar 17, 1883 - Death, buried in Lawrenceburgh.

Wife Hattie remarried to Mr. Albert Pierce.

What I can't find is Armor anywhere before 1860. Does anyone know what Abdon family he came from? I can't find him on an 1850 census, and I have no idea what family he would be included with in 1840.

Any thoughts or ideas??

Karen, I noticed that your cousin referst to Abdon as being indian and irish. I have been trying to find the link to my cherokee ancestry. I have my Abdon line back to John Abdon (6-2-1826 to 2-9-1905) and Malinda Walker (3-16-1830 to 3-7-1910) married on 3-16-1848. I have the basics on them as far as their children and descendants go. Do you have any further info on them or know if they have any connection to indian heritage? Thanks so much!

My research was done in the area from local records years ago and, recently, in the online Indiana marriage records database. Farrington-Farmington does not show in my family papers.

George Bratton Powell).
I have Elizabeth Daniel(s) as the wife of John Hill, parents of Rebecca. Just recently did this line with two other researchers and none of us found any other Elizabeth Daniel(s) in the area (surprising since it's such a common name). I do have extensive data on Daniel(s) and Hill to share. Let me know...mm

I am searching for info on the Abdons of Northern Ky (city of Petersburg or Greenup Co.). My husband's great-grandmother was Hannah Matilda Abdon who married William Maguire. I have their daughter's (Lyda Maguire) high chair. On the bottom it says, made by Thomas Abdon in his workshop in 1919 for his granddaughter, Lyda. So, I'm assuming Thomas Abdon is the father of Hannah (Abdon) Maguire. Thanks for all the help!

I have birth and death dates, and would love to compare.
I didn't know about any of their other children.

I was told by a lady on these boards that Thomas Abdon's parents were Benjamin Abdon and Hannah Ickler, both from Pennsylvania.
All I could find out about Benjamin was that he served in the Civil War, served Indiana Enlisted 06 March 1862 as a Private, D Co. 3rd Cav Reg. Indiana, mustered out at Indianapolis, Indiana on 07 August 1865.

I wish I knew more, also! Maybe we can put our heads together and see what we can come up with. Did you know Bill and Hannah's daughter, Lyda McGuire? She married a Kittle and was my husband's grandmother. As you probably have already read on here, I have in my possesion her high chair, made by her grandfather, Thomas Abdon. It dates back to 1919. My father-in-law was going to have my husband put it out for a yard sale, but I refused, wanting to pass it on to my children. At least when they are older, they can tell people they have something made by their great-great-great grandfather.

Feel free to email me at my address.
Betty

I clicked on your name to email you back but it only gave me a list of messages you have posted, so I'll try it this way.

My husband's grandmother was Lyda Jane McGuire who married Harold Lee Kittle. Lyda was the daughter of William McGuire and Hannah Matilda Abdon. Hannah was the daughter of Thomas Abdon and Lydia Moody but that's as far as I have gotten.

Do you have Hannah Abdon? There are two ways I have learned her father's name was Thomas, through a family "history" handed down from Harold Kittle (hubby's grandfather), and a family heirloom (highchair) made for Harold's wife, Lyda McGuire Kittle, made by her grandfather, Thomas Abdon (says on the bottom of the chair.

Looking forward to hearing more,
Betty

Abdon's of Indiana and Kentucky: we have work to do!

Please allow me to introduce myself: to the best of my knowledge, I am John Clark Abdon (b. Boise, Idaho August 1, 1948 married Barbara Jean Plath), Son of William Clyde Abdon (b. Aurora, Dearborn County, Indiana February 24, 1919 married Mary Ann Samms), son of Clyde Raymond Abdon (b. Aurora, Dearborn County, Indiana 1888 married Agnes Stark Randall), son of William Thomas Abdon (b. ? Indiana July, 1858 married Edith Shuter), son of Charles Abdon (b. June 1830 married Rebecca Hill?), son of William Abdon (b.? married Elizabeth Daniels b. January 15, 1808 in Frederic County, Virginia d. May 21, 1858 in Indiana). I believe this to be an accurate telling of the descendancy.

Following both the patriarchal and matriarchal lines for the Indiana/Kentucky area, I am directly descended from (not in order) the following: Abdon, Randall, Shuter, Stark, Hill, Canfield, Currance (alt. Kerns), and Daniels. The Randall and Currance/Kerns are from the Ohio area)

When my grandfather Clyde Raymond Abdon died (March 30, 1960) my father William Clyde Abdon inherited one of six original copies of the Canfield Family Tree parchment (now in my custody).
