Nimrod Abe was my great uncle. He was the son of Hiram and Effie Abe. His brothers were, Humbird, Melvin and Virgil and he has a sister Dorthy (I think that is her name. We call her Dot). Virgil Abe is still living in Ft. Ashby, WV. Dot is still alive as well although I am not close with her and do not know where she lives.

I think Nimrod died at an early age. I used to have a book which told the story of the family but my ex-wife threw it out in our divorce.

Hiram and Effie (my great grandparents), lived on the Old Furnace Rd. in the family house built by Frederick Abe of Cologne, Germany. He ended up there after working on the C&O Canal. That farm was sold when my great grandma died at age 102. Someone took the original log cabin, numbered each log and moved it to Petersburg, WV I believe.

If you don't already know, there is a family cemetary on the Old Furnace Road (just off Rt. 28) between Ridgeley and Short Gap, WV. I am sure that Nimrod is buried there.

My grandfater was Melvin Abe. He married Irene Valentine and had 6 children, all still living. Melvin and Irene are deceased. The children are my mother, Eleanor ("Pat", because my grandfather thought she would be a boy and wanted to name him Patrick), my aunts Nedra (TX), and Jeanetta, (MD); the boys are Ronald ("Bud", twin of Nedra) (PA), Walter and Richard (both of WV).

I hope this helps. If you need to dig any deeper please email me and I can talk to my Uncle Virgil, who at 85 years old acts and looks like he is 65.

Are you a distant cousin?

Ken Albright
heyabbo@yahoo.com

Carl Frederick Abe was my great-great grandfather. Here's link to info on him that I put on Rootsweb. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d.... If the information I have is correct, my Frederick came to US in 1862, but I could be wrong about that. I haven't touched my family history stuff in a long time and need to refresh my memory on the Abe line. I hope that you are on the right trail because I have no info on my Frederick's parents or siblings.

If this is the same Frederick Abe I have been trying to research I hope this helps. I would also appreciate any additional info on Frederick and family. This info is from the Abe Family Heritage Book. John Adam Abe and wife Annie Catherine sailed from Germany to America in 1836 with their four sons, Nicholas, Augustus, Frederick and John. They landed in New York and were sent to Cumberland, MD by stage to work on the C&O Canal being built at the time. They settled in WV on Old Furnace RD, a half mile from Rt 28. The Heritage book states that after a few years John and Frederick went west. Nicholas and Augustus stayed on the home place. Under Frederick's name in the Heritage book it states "Frederick Abe, son of John A and Annie C lived and died in Missouri and there is no record as to whether he was married or left descendants".
John Flood was my great X 5 grandfather. Nicholas and Lacy Ann my great X 3 grandparents. Lacy Ann had a brother Isaac Long who was also adopted by Philip Long. After Philip and Mary Flood were married 2 more sons were born Nelson and James Harrison. I have found a reference to Lacy's brother Isaac pertaining to his marriage to Mary Catherine Faber in an Indian ceremony, and his church marriage years later after his Catholic daughter in law encouraged him to do so. I believe Lacy Ann and Isaac were half Indian. There is a picture of Lacy Ann and Nicholas in the Abe Family Heritage Book. The last copy I purchased was the 2004 issue. Michael W Abe is listed as the one who complied the book. Aunt Levauda Abe Pownell is who obtained the book for me when I was on a trip back home to WV. Hope this has been of some help.

I know your post is old so you may not be checking. Nimrod Abe married Mary Elizabeth Baldwin and according to my records they had four children, Beatrice (b. 1900), Katherine (b. 1903), Henry and Franklin (twins born in 1906). Nimrod was the son of Fredrick and Catherine Abe (Logsdon). Fredrick was the son of Niclolas and Lacy Ann Abe (Long/Flood). They are buried in Long Cemetery by Frankfort High School in WV. Nicholas and Lacy Ann are buried at the Abe cemetery on Old Furnace Rd. If you gave me your parents or grandparents name I could give you your whole line. I would also be willing to try to get you contact info on the family member who has put together the Abe Family Heritage book. It is a wonderful book full of pictures, biographies and geneological info. I would highly recommend obtaining a copy.

Abe was Daniel's father he was born 3/25/1850 and died 11/18/1918 he is buried in the Abe cemetery on the Old Furnace Rd between Wiley Ford and Short Gapin Mineral County WV. In 1874 he married Mary Elizabeth McKenzie. John H was the son of Nicholas and Lacy Ann (Long). Nicholas was born near San Hosten Germany on 11/10/1819 and died on 10/3/1894. In about 1842 he married Lacy Ann daughter of Phillip Long . She was born 1/9/1826 and died 10/15/1899. There is a story that she was a native American of the Shawnee tribe with the name of Morning Star. Last name long could be adoptive parents. Nicholas' parents were John A and Anny C. Abe. Anny was born 10/8/1789 in Germany and died 10/2/1876 in WV. John A was born in Germany on 9/6/1782 and died10/14/1866 in WV. They are buried in Long Cemetery behind Frankfort High School in Mineral County, WV.All this info is in the Abe Family Heritage book. There are also pictures of Daniel, John, and Nicholas and Lacy Ann.If you could send me any birth and death dates of your husband's family, I would pass them along to be added to the book. Also if you e-mail me I can give you an e-mail address to get a copy of the book. I believe it is $25 but I am not sure. It is a great book and has lots of pictures and biographies in addition to all the genealogical info.

Re: Abe Family - MD or WV

Rev. Abe:

Thank you very much for responding to my message about
Nimrod and Mary Abe. I am trying to locate a copy of
the Abe Book that you spoke about.

I visited the Abe cemetery in Wiley Ford, WV the
weekend after Thanksgiving. Mary's headstone has her
birth year listed as 1876 rather than 1887. All other
dates are correct.

I currently know of two of their four children:
Beatrice Clove (March 23, 1900 to May 16, 1932) and
Frank M. (December 22, 1906 to May 16, 1953). Frank
is buried with his mother and father in the cemetery.
Beatrice married Edgar See in 1922 and had four
children: Earl Martin (May 14, 1923 to July 8, 1995),
Margaret Elizabeth Sallie (February 14, 1925 to
December 27, 1998), Jessie Edward (November 24, 1928
to June 28, 1930, and Clair Virginia (February 11,
1931 to August 12, 1932). Beatrice and children
Jessie and Clair are also buried in the Abe cemetery.

I am descended from Margaret E.S. See who married
Franklin James Nixon in 1947. They are my
grandparents. Both have passed away.

I also have a newspaper article from my grandmother
for Fred and Jacob Abe. From the article I know that
Fred Abe was Nimbrod's father. Nimrod had three
siblings (Hiram Abe, Mrs. G. S. Baldwin, Mrs. G. W.
Baldwin) and a step-brother named George Spangler.
There was a double funeral service at the same church
in Wiley Ford so I think Fred and Jacob may be
brothers. I was really suprised to find out that
Nimrod married Mary Baldwin. His two sisters also
married Baldwin's. Are all of the Baldwin's related?

I would appreciate it if you could look up a few
things for me in your Abe book if you get a chance:
1) Name of Fred Abe's wife
2) Names of Nimrod's sisters
3) Names of Nimrod's other two children

I hope some of the information that I provided about
my Abe line is helpful to. I would really appeciate
your assistance with my research.

Thanks,
Victoria Nixon
