Hi again. We are related. I talked with my mom today to get a littel info. She and my dad last saw your dad in NC before George Sr. died. He was living with them at the time. In my family we refered to your grandfather as George Sr and your father as George Jr. There weren't alot of Abele off spring. Your father and my father were the only males. Do you know anything about your great-grandparents George and Mary Abele? That is really where I'm stuck. I have info on the generations after them, plus pictures if your interested. My father stayed in touch with alot of them and I have letters, etc. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and my e-mail is kathytarkington@hotmail.com. I've started to put the family tree on line so check for M.K. Littell tree. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for responding.

Hello,
This is really interesting to me. I have never done any of this before. I am the oldest(65)of 5 children who were born to George and Betty Abele. They have both passed on now. Dad died in 2004 and Mom died in 1989. They are buried in Oriental, NC at the Episcopal Church where he was the rector for several years. Dad spent most of his life as an Episcopal priest in North Carolina. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. We all are married and have children and are scattered all around the southeastern part of the US. I live in southern Ohio. My grandfather, George F Abele Sr, died in the 1980's while living with my parents in Blowing Rock, NC. He was 92.
I hope this will help

I would like any info that you have. I have quite a few pictures of George and Delsi. I have a copy of an article your father wrote and published in a Lutheran magazine. I actually met your parents in the early 1970's when they lived in West Virginia. My parents are Bill and Jean Littell. My dad died three years ago. Anna Louise Young (Wilhelmina Abele Trautman's daughter) is still alive. She turns 101 in August. I have a sister and three brothers. As I remember there were four children in your family. Am I correct? I have pictures of the Abele's at the farm in Lebanon and I think it is your dad with mine in the 30's. I'd be interested in exchanging information. Thanks for replying.

Philip Abele and my immigrant ancestor, John Robert Luppold, born in 1842 in Johlingen were second cousins.

Interested in info on Philip and Barbara's early years in the U.S. and their descendants.

Marie

You may already have this information, but Philip Abele married Barbara Illig/Ellig (father: John Illig, mother: Maria Theresa Ennesser) September 12, 1842, Holy Trinity Church, Boston, MA. Barbara's family arrived US in 1837 according to her father's naturalization papers. Barbara was born 12/31/1819 in Kutzenhausen, Alsace, France.

Do we have a common ancestor . . .

The ages of Philip's children Edward, Louisa, and Frances at the time of their marriages according to the MA Vital Records match up with the children's ages on the Philip Abele I found in the 1860 census. The problem is that the census says that his wife's name was Margaret and that she was born in France.

Any ideas?

Marie

Barbara, The only Philip Abele that I could find was in the 1860 Census and he was married to a Margaret.
I haven't been able to find anything in the MA Vital records but did have luck in the Massachusetts City Directories but only starting in 1861. Nothing on the family before that.

Are you related to the Abele's? If so, we probably have many ancestors in common.

Marie

Paul,
Not that I know of, yet. Friedrich Abele married into my Deubel line and lived on Staten Island, but they moved to Brooklyn after losing 4 children in the 1880s. I have seen listings (census, etc.) for other Abeles in Brooklyn at that time, but haven't been able to find a connection thus far. Since Frederick was in Brooklyn, I had wondered who your witnesses were, on a long shot. I will keep an eye out for your Albert in my research.
Sandy

P.S. These are my Abeles:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~deubelhof/abele.htm...

Sandy
No ages given but Elisabeth was born 1866. Witnesses were Gregory Geiser and George Hummel. I believe George to be the recent husband of Elisabeth Herrmann's cousin. The marriage was on 9/29/1891 at St Leonard of Port Maurice RC church in Brooklyn. Is Albert Abele in your line?

Paul

I am looking for George F. Abele who immigrated through Philadelphia in late 1800s. He had four children, Elizabeth who married Jim Foster, George who married Delsi, Lucy who married Walter Martz, Will, Mary who married Walter Bock and Wilhelmena who married Leander Trautman. Wilhelmena is my great grandmother. The family settled around Lebanon, PA. I think George F. Abele's wife was Mary Lederer. Any more information would be greatly appreciated.

Your great-grandfather Joseph Abele was the son of John and Barbara Abele, immigrants from Württemberg, Germany. Joseph was probably born in Dayton, Montgomery county, Ohio, as was his younger sister Magdalena.

Magdalena Abele married Peter Joseph Jergens, Sr. You can find more about the Abele family at "The Jergens Family of Dayton, Ohio" (http://home.comcast.net/~schenot/jergens.html).

Peter,

Philipp Abele was born on May 27, 1821 in Joehlingen, Germany the son of Ignaz Abele (born on October 8, 1781 and died in Boston, MA on November 1, 1843) and Maria Franziska Hasenfuss (born on March 10, 1781 and died in Boston on October 22, 1857).

Philipp was the 11th of 13 children.

The family came to the US in 1832. It seems that the whole family immigrated to US except a daughter, Maria Eva, and a son, Joseph Anton. who went to Chirurgin, Vienna, Austria.

This information is from the Orstfamilienbuch Joehlingen.

I found a Phillip Abele, born about 1820 in Baden in the 1860 US Census living in Ward 8 in Boston MA with his wife, Margaret and 5 children.

The Abele, Spitz, Luppold, and Schell family are all interrelated and many settled in Boston.

I have more information but even more questions.

Marie
