My name is Gaspar "Jasper" Abeyta. I was born and raised in Colorado and lived in Southern New Mexico for several years. I have been residing in Minneapolis Minnesota (since March of 96). My people are from Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. My Grandfather, Gaspar Octavio Abeyta (my namesake) passed away in 1997. His father's name was Jose Gaspar Abeyta (born in 1866) and his father was Jesus Maria Abeyta. I am trying to track down the family tree with very little luck. Prior to 1880 I found over 48 documented ways on how to spell our name. That year (1880) it became standardized to either Abeyta or Abeita.
I have found several Jesus Maria's but have not had any luck finding or validating my Great-Great Grandfather. He was married to Clara Maria Fernandez around 1856. I feel if I can find Jesus Maria, I can make several generational connections very quickly.
My grandfather came from quite a large family. He had four half brothers and sisters born to Ginoveva Garcia. Their names are: Serafin (9/1886), Carlos (11/1889), Victor (2/1892) and Beatrice (5/1894). He had ten full brothers and sisters born to Sarah Perea. Their names are: Ana, Ermima, Mary, Gaspar O., Madalena, Alferdo, Emilio, Emila, Felix, Rosa, and Tony (died at birth). My grandfather had several nephews and nieces. I know some of my cousins but not that many of them.
