My great-great-great grandmother's maiden name is Abigail. Mary Abigail married Thomas Jefferson Humphrey, a judge, in 1832. They were married in Vermont, but migrated to Michigan shortly after. They settled in Berry County, Michigan, near the town of Lacy.
They had children Agnes, Emma, Nettie and Nellie. Emma Humphrey (my great-great grandmother) married a farmer named John Henry Bullis. They had twins, Eva and Edith, but Eva died in infancy. The mother, Emma, died afterward of a hemorrhage. John Bullis had joined the Merrill Horse Brigade in Berry County and could not raise Edith. And so Edith's grandparents, Thomas Jefferson Humphrey and Mary Abigail Humphrey legally adopted and raised her.
