Hi Penny. I saw your posting about Tryntje Logterman Abma so I thought I would tell you what I know. I am researching the Wynia family who also lived in the Springfield area of Bon Homme County SD. You probably know that Gerben Wynia married Dieuke or Dora Logterman. I have some notes I inherited from a Wynia family member that says that Minne Abma married Tryntje Logterman, so I have been trying to document that.

Minne Abma was the son of Murk Harmens Abma and Baukjen Jans Wynia, born 29 Sep 1853 in Cubaard, Hennaarderadeel, Friesland, Netherlands. He came to the USA in 1874. A brother, Harmen and a sister Yke also came here, but I think that was later.

I have not been able to find a marriage date for Minne and Tryntje, but I found a possible census listing for them in 1900 in Bon Homme County, Hancock - Twp 93 Range 62 ED 23 Sheet 8A. Hs name is written over and not readable, but she is listed as Katie (born Nov 1858). The Dutch name Tryntje is often converted to Katherine in English. Their first child was born in Iowa in Apr 1882 and the others in South Dakota. They were married for 22 years, had 11 children of which 9 were living. I can't read the name of the first child, but the others were Jacob 16, Rena 15, Bertha 12, Freddie 12, Dora 8, Jessie 6 and Marcus 3.

I believe I found the same family in 1920 in Bowie Co., Texas Justice Precinct #1 ED 9 Sheet 21A (Texarkana) which included "Mane" Abma 69 who is widowed, Dona (or Dora) 27, Jessie 25, Marcus 22, and May Berta 32. If you have found anything more on Minne and Tryntje since you posted your message, or are able to verify what I have told you, I would appreciate your letting me know at LynnJohnson@pdq.net.

Hi Marian. I'm a descendant of Herman Abma. I've just started looking into my genealogy. Your information was very helpfull to me. If you have any more information about the Abmas I would love to see it. Regarding Minne Murks Abma and Tryntje (Cornelia) Logterman, I have located their marriage. "Menne Abbema" married Tryntje Logterman 9 Mar 1878 in Floyd Township, Sioux, Iowa. I have not yet located Minne's death. Minne AND his sister Yke (Ieke or Ike) both immigrated in 1874. Ike M. Abma married Abram van Steenwyk 24 Nov 1874 in Orange City, Sioux, Iowa. She died 8 May 1915 in Orange City. Their older brother Harmen / Herman Abma died 14 Jul 1933 in Orange City, and his wife Joukje Tiedes (Bylsma) Abma died 8 Jul 1935 in Holland Twp., Sioux, Iowa
