Abrams from Ireland? Or Germany?

My grandmother's maiden name is Abram. She and her sister remember always being told they were Irish...but I can't find ANY relationship to Ireland with that name. My gma her sis have been to Ireland twice and looked in every phonebook in every town they visited, and never located any Abrams there either.

My research indicates that it's more likely a German name, but since I have no history further back than my g.g.grandfather's name (Thomas Abram), I don't know where else to look. I do know his wife, Ellen Tracy, was likely Irish, so maybe that's where the story comes from.

Does anyone know if there are, indeed, Abrams in Ireland?

Thanks,
Chris
