We might be cousins. My father, Alexander Rudolph Abram, had a brother Mike. If I remember he had a son named Terry. I only met them once back in around 1964 or so. My father's mother's name was Olga. We lived in California since my dad was about 30, he had a very hard youth and didn't talk much about it. I know they all came from Poland, actually called Russ-Poland and my father spoke German. He always thought he was German till my grandmother died and they listed her country of origin to be Poland.

Hello Tiffany

I am familiar with most of your family line. I can verify from Bazel Abrams and Martha Brown to Thomas. Jemima Friend is very possible, but there is no real confirmation to that. Henry is probably the father to Thomas. A recent DNA test supports a relationship, not necessarily father to son. There is no strong proof that Rhoda Spencer was his wife. I have seen the lines for Sidwell and earlier Henrys but I have never seen a source for that so I am reticent to include them.

I descend from Thomas. I am in contact with other members of your Basil family. You can contact me at abramsml@yahoo.com

Re: My Abram Family

I came into this world on 10th May 1971 and weighed in at 6 /6. I was born to my parents at home in Luton, Bedfordshire. Back then, my mum, Diane, wore her hair long and her skirts short and dad, Michael, thought he was one of the Dubliners.

My sister Rachel followed 2 years later - she was born in hospital at Chester, which was to be our permanent home.

My mum and was born in Bedfordshire in 1948. She had one sister Pamela Ann, seven years older than herself, a twin but Freda had died at 3 days old. Dad was born in August 1994, the only child of my grandparents Louis Bowers Abram and Delia Eileen Clarke.

Delia was the daughter of a Northamptonshire Police Sergeant, Albert Edward William Clarke who, on his retirement he was described as having an ‘exemplary character’.

Louis, was the second son of Joseph Charles Abram an Army Sergeant and Millicent May Bowers. Louis, was a Corporal in the Royal Air Force. He learnt to fly in a Tiger Moth at Sywell? but war broke out on the day he was due to take his test, so he never saw active combat. He later worked at Vauxhall Motors in Luton, retiring in 1970 after 25 years service having established ‘an excellent reputation in respect of loyalty, conscientiousness and timekeeping’.

Joseph Bowers Abram, the couples first son was born in Tempe, Pretoria, South Africa, in 1913, where Joseph Charles was stationed on army service. The child lived for 2 short months - he died of Enteritis and Heart failure and is buried in South Africa.

Joseph Charles served in the army from January 1901 to March 1922, receiving the 1914 Star, the British War Medal 1914 - 1918 and the Victory Medal 1914 - 1918 as well as being mentioned in Despatches on 30th December 1918.

On discharge, Joseph Charles Abram was involved in a number of projects. He built houses at Mears Ashby Road?, built Earls Barton Motors in the early 1930’s and ran Abrams buses which used to operate a small local service with trips to Wellingborough and back at weekends costing four pennies return. During the war the garage was used for repairing aircraft parts for Sywell aerodrome and in March 1943 the garage sustained a broken window when two Air Force Bombers collided and crashed.

Joseph Charles Abram was the son of Charles Abram and Emily Hutchings. They were married in 1880 and had many children, the youngest being Violet born in 1906, who lived to celebrate her 100th birthday in 2006. The family photo below shows show Charles and Emily with many of their children and grandchildren.

When asked about the photo in her 100th year, Violet, who can be seen in the photo, seated in front of her mother and father re-called a number of things. The photo was taken not long after Walter & Mabel's wedding and one of the brothers, George had come over from America to visit. The dress that Violet wore was of blue velvet.

Charlie Abram, my great grandfather, was not in the photo because he was in Africa serving in the war. She remembered that Charlie had been married prior to marrying my great grandmother Millicent May Bowers and that his first wife had been a ‘dark skinned lady’. Records show that Joseph’s first wife was Lucy Thompson, her father William was a Gardener and he mother Harriet, a Greengrocer. Joseph and Lucy married on 16th April 1916

Violet said she was about the same age as Gladys (Frank's daughter) but Gladys had died aged 29. She noticed that Theresa, who they called Sis, wasn't in the picture but she couldn't remember why and that Kit & Albert's son Sonny had also died young but was unsure at what age. Also, that there was at least 2 other siblings but that they had died - one was a female named Mary the other was a male but she did not know his name.

Although Charles and Emily stayed in England and Charlie and Millicent settled in England too after the war, many of the family emigrated to Australia. Violet re-called that Rose (Kathleen) was not in the photo as she was already in Australia, her and her husband, an Australian soldier, had left around 1919. Reg followed in approximately 1922 - 1923 and Louis, Bet-Martha & Violet left around Christmas 1924, arriving in Australia on 9th February 1925. They sailed aboard the Ship Esperance Bay on it's maiden voyage, which was later turned into a battle ship in the Second World War and sunk.

Violet was only seventeen at the time and is said to have travelled as Louis and Bet-Martha’s daughter. George didn't want them to go and had tried to convince them along with Charles, Emily & other family members to immigrate to America.

Emily my great grandmother and Violets mother, lived into her 90’s. She sent the photo below to her daughter Violet in Australia, on the back she had written ‘What do you think of a face like this at 90’?

My great great great grandfathers parents, were Joseph and Ann Abram (nee Cox). Joseph was a Shoemaker Journeyman born to Rebecca and James, in Rothwell in 1859. Joseph died aged 28. The death certificate shows he had been suffering from Phthisis Pulmonalis, known today as Tuberculosis, for 13 months. Ann subsequently married again, to William Maloney in 1869.

Hello

My name is Abram too and I believe there is an Irish connection, by marriage in my family.

This is my family:

Dad - Michael Peter Abram

Grandfather - Louis Bowers Abram - m - Delia Eileen Clarke

Great Grandfather - Joseph Charles Abram - m - Millicent May Bowers (2nd wife)

Great Great Grandfather - Charles Abram - m - Emily Hutchings

Great Great Great Grandparents - Joseph Abram - m - Ann Cox

Joseph and Ann had children but I believe that Joseph died young and Ann Cox re-married a man called William Maloney from Ireland and had children with him also.

The Abram / Maloney family can be found living in Northamptonshire on the 1871 and 1881 census. Have not investigated what happened to them after that.

Toni Abram
http://centronuclear.org.uk

My name is Abram and I am also intersted to hear from anyone with information on the names Abram(s) and Abraham(s), in the UK and posibly Ireland.

My Abram ancestors come from the South of England and I would be very keen to hear from anyone else with ancestors from this part of the country. M research seems to indicate that the Abram family came from up North; Southport and Wigan (I believe there is a place called Abram in Wigan also), which strangely is the area my family live in now.

My father was born in Northamptonshire and his father Louis Bowers Abram was born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk (1916). Joseph Charles Abram was my great grandfather and he was born in Northampton and Charles Abram my great great grandfather was born in Rothwell, Northamptonshire. My great great grandfather was Joseph Abram but I have no details abour him at present.

Toni Abram

Abram is a common name in County Antrim, especially on the North East Coast. Previous research suggests that the name originated in Co.Fermanagh. Have just started trying to research it. It is my mothers maiden name. Her father was James Abram but also in some documents it is spelt Abraham.
Hope this helps.
Pauline.

I am also researching Abraham who came from Ireland.
I have managed to go back to 1840's.

My GGGrandfather was also James Abraham b abt 1846 in Co Leitrem Ireland, that's what it states on the 1871 census fro England. He married Cathrine Burk(e)also born in Ireland abt 1848. they left Ireland and moved to Huddersfield England. I have now hit a brick wall and cannot find any futher info on James Parents or his birth details. Could we be related??

It is becoming extremely difficult now due to the different spellings of Abraham--- I am checking Abraham, Abrahams, Abram, Abrams and Hebron, apparently the last spelling Hebron is another possibility.

Get in touch if any of my info rings any bells.

Louise

Just to confuse more, my surname HABRON is fairly new as my Grandfather was baptised as ABRAHAM in Quinaltagh, Co Galway in 1883. The family name changed on moving to Huddersfield England. We have heard that the name originated from the North, and was shortened from an older Gaelic name. I have a family tree going back to around 1790 but with lots of dead ends.
If I can help anyone let me know.
Howard P Habron

John blake was baptised 1804 in farndon - recorded as living in Barton. His parents are Edward and Frances. I suspect Edward (born about 1766 and James (born 1772) are brothers or possibly cousins. I am trying to find out where they were born as neither of them were baptised in Farndon parish or the neighbouring parishes.
by the way - John's brother Joseph was baptised in 1800 so is slightly older than the info you have. There are no other Blakes in the area, so these must be your line. I have about 10 brothers and sisters listed.

Hi thanks for reply. This must be the same line but I have father of six sons as Harold Arthur 1834-1876 wed 1853 to Marion Janet Abram 1834-1881. Lived Liverpool. Sons:
Ralph, Arthur, Harold, Richard, George, Hugh which could have been Herbert. George was my grandfather. You have Richard as the father. What is your source for his name?
I have a picture of him and it says Harold Arthur on the back.
He is dressed in a military uniform. Hope we can connect as I don't have much on the Blakes in England. I have a lot on Georges family. He left England at age 18.

Yes, I am sure now that it is the same family. I had Paradise Row address. All these years the family thought grandfathers name was Harold Arthur. What a surprise to find it was Richard. Do you have a picture of him? So many questions for you. Write to me direct ok? jowelch@att.net
Good to meet you cousin.

Hello Graham

I have all of the surnames you list that you are interested in from North Meols, mostly from Banks , Crossens & Churchtown although I've followed all ines as far as I can and have 14573 individuals linked up so far.

Bonds (Boonds) and baxters are my main lines, but I have Wareing (x2) and Rimmer (Rymer) 2nd great grandparents.

To be honest I've been stuck on a few Abrams - I think my 3rd great grandmother (Ann Johnson) married a John Abram born about 1807, but I don't know which one.

I'd be interested in the Boonds you have as well, just to see if I can make a link with the ones you have.

Regards

Steve Baxter
Re: Abrams from Ireland? Or Germany?

I do not know if there were Abrams in Ireland but I have recently found that my great great grandmother Ann Abram (nee Cox) married William Maloney fron Ireland after my great great great grandfather Joseph Abram died.

I believe the marriage took place in Northamptonshire in 1869 and the couple went on to have several children namely John W, Eugene, Jeremiah, John and William who were step brothers to Emma, Harriett and George Abram and my great great grandfather Charles Abram.

Would be interested to hear from anyone who can fill me in on the Maloney family / Abram family.

Thank you

Toni Abram
