I am searching for information on an Abrams family in AR. My Great Grandmother was Effie although she changed her name to Esther. She was born in MO, we have no information on that, but the family moved to Heber AR. She was one of 8 girls in the family. She married a man named Anderson and had one child. She later married my Great Grandfather, a Shackleford and lived in Yuma, AZ until her death.

Hey cuzzin! Solomon Turpin Abrams is one of my GGG-uncles, brother to my GG-Grandfather Stephen Wood Abrams. Solomon T. and Stephen W. also had an older brother just named Turpin. They were sons of Solomon Abrams and Edeline/Adaline Fletcher, who lived in what is modern-day Jackson County, Kentucky (where Horse Lick Creek is located). My grandfather, Clinton Azbill Abrams was born in Horse Lick, Ky in 1903; Solomon T. was his great-uncle.

The "Turpin" name comes from their grandmother, Rachel Turpin, who was married to Henry Abrams in 1797. There is a more-or-less annual Abrams Family Reunion of descendants of Henry and Rachel held in the Madison/Jackson County region of Kentucky, where many Abramses still live.

I am a related to the Abrams from LI, NY as well. I have the Will of Ellen Abrams, widow of Elias H. Abrams of Inwood, dated 1896. They had a lot of children. Your great grandfather may have been one of his grandchildren. Have you heard of Elias or Ellen? Or any of their children, Samuel, Wright, Mary, William, Willet, Hiram, Elias, Floyd, or Henrietta? Ellen had been married before and had other children with the last names Combs and Broad. Willet was the executor so I ended up with it somehow. I haven't connected all the dots yet but my whole family is from NY and LI. Mostly Nassau county.

He has many resources for this family (desc of Charles Abrams from the 1600s). Particularly if the locations of Nassau or Hempstead mean anything to you.

Clay also created the Abrams DNA project back in 2006. People who wonder if they belong to this family (or any other Abrams family) should join the DNA project (you can apply on Clay's page) and see if you match.

I am not from this family. I am from the Abrams who came out of Turkeyfoot, PA and later KY, OH.

We have over 50 members in our project. Several of them have Long Island/New York ancestry, so you have a good possibility of a match with our existing members.

I recommend you get a 37 marker test for $149. You can get a 12 marker test for $99, but as you can see, you get much more data for the dollar with a 37 marker test. Also, 12 marker tests can give false matches. So I would only get 12 markers if you are on a budget. You can upgrade later, but that will cost more money.

Ancestry.com also has a DNA test for a lot less money. Before you order that test, please contact me for the pros and cons. Or any other questions, feel free to contact me.

After you join they will send you a kit containing two swabs and you swab your cheek on two different days and send it back. You will receive the results back in a few weeks via email.

I had 151 matches to a 12 marker test but only one match with a person with the Abrams name and that was a cousin that I already knew about. A 12 marker match with a person with another surname usually means that you have a common ancestor about 1000 years ago. But you never know. I am waiting for the results of a 67 marker test that I ordered.

Nice to meet you, cuz. I'll be sending you an email soon. My great grandfather was William Franklin Abrams. He lived in Butler Co, OH. I have a great aunt Dorothy who still lives there. I have another great aunt who lives in Kettering, OH, I don't know what county that is but it's not more than an hour away from my great aunt Dorothy.

I'd love to go to one of the family reunions, but it will probably be a couple of years before I get the chance. My grandfather is in poor health and I am using my vacation this June to go visit him.

I am a descendent from the Lynbrook, LI Abrams. My great grandfather was Elbert Abrams and his wife was Elizabeth Abrams. They owned a hotel in Lynbrook. That lot of land is now the Lynbrook LI Railroad Station. Most of my relatives are buried in the Rockville Cemetery in Lynbrook. How do I go about the DNA project.

Yes, I can help a bit. The John Harvey Abrams you are referring to married Grace Elizabeth Hamilton. They were my grandparents.John passed away in Nov, 1974 and Grace passed away in 1979. They lived in Carlisle, In. My father was their 2nd son, Stanley Lee. Their oldest child, Robert is still going strong in FL. Their oldest daughter, Luetta,(Lou)is living in Sullivan, IN. If you have gathered any frther information, please feel free to contact me. My aunt, Geraldine, was the last one to possess the family Bible, that I'm aware of.

He was married before my mother to someone in LA or MS...there were 2 children, a boy and a girl. He actually had 3 sisters, one was named Margie.
