john absalom 1913 update!!

have now found that john was born in edinburgh but his surname was spelt absalom instead of absolom like he later used. any one know of any info on john would be great !!

i am trying to find a birth record for john absolom born in 1913 . i know his father was robert absolom who occupation was a miner on johns marriage cert ,john married in portsmouth and was a sergeant in the ra in 1945. i also believe he died in essex in 1990.i cant find a birth no matter how hard ive tried any body could help that would be great thanks!!

I recently found two John Absaloms arriving in Australia in 1891 ..one was 23, the other 50 years old. I have some more info on my profile. I think the young one is our man .. the other a relative.

As I have told you before, your information has proved most useful to me. I have however still not been able to dig up much information about the maritime activities of Robert Absalom b. 1794 and his son-in-law William Wilson b. 1823 who married Robert's daughter Elizabeth. They had a ship and traded between Northumberland (probably Blyth) and Spain and that it was wrecked in the Bay of Biscay. I have found reference to William Wilson's Mariner's certificate but nothing much on Robert Absalom apart from the census info that he was a mariner.

Robert Absalom born 1794 in Blyth Northumberland is my 3G greatgrandfather.
I see from ancestry.co.uk that you are researching the Absaloms.

Eleanor Elfridine Absolom c1882 Australia

My husband's great grandmother was Eleanor Elfridine Absolom born c 1882. She married William George Read and died in 1944. Her son was William John Absolom Read born 1905 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. I would love to find out more information about Eleanor, her siblings and parents.

I am a descendant of Robert Absolam (1794- c 1872) from Blyth Northumberland England and am interested in Absolams after his grand children. In particular I am interested in the possibility that most of the Absolams left for Australia towards the end of the 1900s.

Spelling Absolon Absolam Absalom very variable. Why? Is it because it is unusual. There appear to be no Absaloms left in Blyth or Newcastle judging by phone books.

What info can you share.

Your greatgrandmother, Jane Allen was my great grandfathers sister so we share John Allen as our mutual great,great grandfather. Even though it has been 5yrs since you left your message I do hope that you will revisit this site and be able to contact me. I have a photograph I found amoungst my mother's possions when she passed away that I believe is of Jane & Henry.

A john absalom was born in that area in around the late 1700s as he had a son in 1914. If this matches your query notify me as I have a lot of info on these people.

I dont have any information on your Joseph Absolon I am afraid Timothy.

Can I suggest you go to the Free BMD site - scroll down BELOW the Ancestry .com advert till you reach the Search button and put your info in there.

You may well find something about him. It has a lot of information. If it isnt in there at the moment it may come up in a few months time when more people have transcribed the records onto the computers.
Dont give up.

I found my Timothy eventually - he called himself James for most of his life so I struggled to find him.
My Timothy was born in 1851 and the last name is definitely Absalom. Good luck

I am trying to help organise a DNA project for direct male descendents of an Absalom line.
I have a source which gives a family of that name expelled from Spain in 1492. We need to try to find out if any of the English branches are descendents of this family., and thus whether there is any relationship between branches. We know of relationships between the Northumberland and the Norfolk clan.

Are you able to help at all?

Your message has just been posted to me. I do not know whether John Henry derives from the Norfolk family which settled in Northumberland - being mariners, mainly.
This is the branch I have been researching.They contain individuals like Samuel george, Urquhart, Chalmers etc. Is it a different line, or are they related?

Also am interested in William Absolom from Berks who settled in Otahuhu, NZ. Am in touch with his descendents.

Looking for information on parents,family and origins of Elizabeth Abaslom, who married William Latimer. She had a son Thomas Latimer on October 11, 1840. Address is 20 Huntley Street, Registration District Saint Pancras, Sub-District Tottenham, Middlesex. Not confirmed but believe married early 1838 in District Saint Pancras.

William the coachman had a son William. I have son's marriage cert. He married an Ann Jones. The coachman's wife was called Catherine, I believe, but Daphne has those records from St. Marylebone parish. She will be your cousin x 2 or 3. (Our line is a different one I think) She is about 90, and has arthritis, so finds it dufficult to write.

I can send you copies of what she sent me.

Her two aunts vanished. MUST have emigrated, I suppose.
You could 'phone her if you wish.

William the coachman died in St. George Hanover Squ. parish.

I am searching for a pair of ladies from the family you are interested in. Eliza Absalom, who married in Paddington, had a brother William who also married in Paddington to Ann Jones. They had a son George who had three children. One of the was also called George, and I have got his family all tied up nicely. They have a descendent Daphne Absalom who lives near Exeter.

However, George had two sisters who completely vanished. I have them living with their mother and stepfather in 1891, but by 1901 they are no longer there. They are in none of the marriage registers, and have not died, according to the death registers. Brother George is still with his mother in 1901, but we cannot find out what happened to the two sisters - great nieces of your ancestor Eliza. Their names were Georgina and Constance. Have you come across them at all?

I may have this wrong but I have it that William born 1827to William and Margaret, in Longbenton, married Ann Nicholson. Their son John was born 27 December 1849(birth cert),
John married Annie Clark on 8 Sept 1873 I have a picture of her. Their son Thomas was born in Horton, Northumberland on 20 Aug 1893. I have many pictures of him as a young man. he was a miner then a soldier. He joined the Northumberland Fusiliers in about 1913. He married my grandmother Maria Isabel Moy in 1915. My mother was born in 1917, after his death on 14 Nov 1916. He was awarded the Military Medal and his name can be seen on the Thiepval Memorial in Somme France. He was 23 yrs old.
I don't know much else really as I never knew him. If yoy have any questions I'll try to answer them

I am looking for info regarding a John Absalom that was born in the mid 1700's somewhere in England. Unfortunately I don't have many details only that he was a storekeeper and Justice of the Peace. He had at least three children that I know of. The eldest son Charles was born in 1796 and married Eliza Knight in Salisbury 1825. He was a cooper (barrel maker).

William Kerridge was a policeman, and they moved into London
William and Ann (nee ABSOLON/ABSOLAM) had several children : Rosa Jane, William, Charles, Ann Maria, Henry George, Alfred, Elizabeth & Emma.

They are in the 1881 census index at London St Botolph

Has anyone ever heard of a book called House of Absalom/Absolom? I heard it was a genealogy collection of families including ours (Jones) but I have no further information. It was published through a publishing house so there's a good chance I could find it if anyone knew exactly what it was called or who published it...thanks.

I am currently trying to find some information in relation to my mothers family. My great great grandfather was a man by the name of John Absalom Absalom. John married Mary Ann O'Connor on the 14th September 1858 in St Phillips, Sydney Australia. Their son Henry Edmund Absalom maried Julia Jess on the 3rd of November 1894 in Sydney..Any information relating to the Absaloms would be greatly appreciated.

To Ann: Margaret ABSALOM (1798-1853) who married William BARRASS (1796-1865) was a relation (aunt?) of the ABSALOM family of Cramlington, Northumberland. Three or four of their children: William, Elizabeth (TWEEDIE), John and Robert BARRASS emigrated to Australia in 1858. I have quite a bit of information on both families.
Elizabeth HUDSON married James (aka Thomas) ABSALOM 23 May 1787 at Earsdon.
Interested to know more details about your grandfather Thomas BARRASS - date of birth, place etc.

Thanks for your reply. I am wondering if we have the same William BARRASS. Born 26 October 1827 - Died 8 September 1907. He married Isabella JOHNSTON (1837-1917). They had 8 children but cannot locate a John BARRASS. Perhaps if you let me have your email address I can send you the Family Tree and you can check all the names/dates shown on it. If there is a connection with William & Margaret (nee ABSALOM) BARRASS then we are on the right track. Only need to sort out the generations!

Sorry not replied before- just read message. The only info I have on Eliza is her father was William Absalom a Coachman. I can't find her birth but it must have been about 1820. Do you know her mother's name? Eliza married John William Menzies in Paddington Parish Church in 1844. Eliza would have been my GG Grandmother. Sarah Absolon or Absolom married a Richard Tyrrell at West Drayton on 1st Sept. 1728. does this ring any bells. Glad to hear anything about Sarah and Richard. Sarah was a widow so what was maiden name.

We have info. on Eliza's brother William who married Ann Jones in Paddington ca. 1846. His father was William the coachman, who died in Royal Court, St. George Hanover Squ. 1838.

There is some contriversy about who William's father was - possibly Thomas Absalom of Marylebone (All Souls) who married Martha Wood - but I am not convinced. Dates are not quite right and some discrepancies exist in Marylebone Parish records.

Am seeking information regarding Hannah Maria Cearl Absolom, said to be a cousin of Sir Francis Palgrave. Can anyone tell me more about this connection?
Hannah was born in Norfolk, very early 1800's or late 1700's, according to my info. Palgrave's family had Turners and Dawsons in it. On his father's side is the name Cohen - but mother's maiden name unknown, as yet.

I am very interested in the Jamaican Absaloms and the connection to De Pass. At one time I had stipulated that De Pass was a name used by the Absalom family of Marranos, being a translation of the Hebrew - "De Paz" (meaning from peace, same as Absalom). Many Marranos settled in Jamaica.

I have kept my eyes open for all De Pass members - in particular any who were connected with Absaloms. My friend Rhoda in OZ did a bit of research on West Indies, and may have found a De Pass marriage there. She is an Absalom descendent.

I have been looking for you for about half a year. Originally your name was passed on to me by Pere Bonnin from Spain, but also Mark Duncan had you e-mail address, but it has changed and my messages were all sent back.

I have a lot of data on the Absaloms, including ones from St. Lukes and Chelsea. Mostly 19th century. But some branches have been well researched by my co-researcher Joan Bicknell, who goes back to the16th century. She mapped out a tree with over 500 names, and Mark Duncan is on it. (Also my daughter-in-law).
