Steve,

For the moment this is a brief reply from memory, and if you are still following this Achuff I'd like to hear back from you.

JN ( John Newton?) Achuff was an "allopath" who graduated from what is now Jefferson University Hospital School of Medicine in Philadelphia. I believe he was born in NJ and also served in AZ. I have several newspaper articles that in one of them mention his wife and a child. Perhaps a grandson, also look for a John Newton Achuff who was an officer, either Navy or USMC during WW2. It took me a while to break the "JN" into John Newton from records, but I believe that is his given and middle name. That might help your search.

I will dig in my files to see what else there is if you are still interested.

Doug

The Achuff family lived in Lenni into the 1970s. I am not sure where they went after that. I think they stayed in the Delaware County area of Pennsylvania.

I am researching an Achuff/Acuff Family from Delaware County, PA. They lived in the Village of Lenni in the 1880 census. Robert is the father and Caroline is the mother. I believe this is my ggrandmother's family. She has a sister Sarah who I found married to a Loveland. My ggrandmother married James P. Campbell and moved to Philadelphia in the Kensington Section. Her name was Lydia Acuff Campbell. Sara and Lydia's brother's name was Robert, so there were three children.
I am trying to research Robert even thought it says he was born in Pennsylvania, I haven't found too much on him. He served in the Civil War and Caroline is listed as a widow on the Special Census of 1890. I can't find Caroline after this census.
Does this sound familiar - if it does please contact me at eles14@aol.com.
Rose
Hi,
I lived in Delaware County and knew James Achuff Jr., his wife, Mary, and his children,I think there were 3 or 4 girls the youngest whom was Pearl. She would be about 50 now. My relatives were Blackburns and were distantly related to Edna Pearl, James Sr.'s wife. From what I remember, going back to the 1960's, The Achuff's were "poor" according to my mother and lived in a rented home in Lenni, Delaware County. We often gave my sister's clothes to them. Sorry I can't help you more.

Hello,
I am trying to find anyone related to this family. Lydia married James P. Campbell in 1897. They were in Philadelphia by Sept., 1897 because their daughter Caroline (Carrie) Campbell was born in Center City.
In the 1880 Census Lydia was listed as two years old. They lived in the Village of Lenni in Middletown, Delaware County, PA. If these are her correct parents Robert was in the Civil War and died. Caroline collected Widow benefits. I cannot find the family after the 1880 Census.
Lydia and James moved to the Kensington Section of Philadelphia and are living there in the 1900 Census.
Does anyone have any information on this family?

My boyfriends mother informed me that James Achuff had 2 brothers. Robert born 1909 and Walter born 1912. However I cannot find James, Walter, or Robert in the same household in any census.

Would you happen to have maiden names of the wives for Arthur or James? I think Washington's wife was Anna Coleman? I am doing this line for my boyfriend. He is the grandson of James Achuff born 1907 who married Edna Pearl Blackburn.

This might be somewhat helpful, Lisa, but I'll have to dig through paper files for more specifics. Washington Achuff was born in Philadelphia's Germantown section and moved with his parents, brothers and sisters to IA as a child circa mid-1800s. I have some family history on them thanks to a generous IA researcher, but I lose track of Washington there. I believe his sister, Elizabeth, married a General Gedes of the Union Army. Based on your research assumptions, Washington's grandson, James, returns to the Philadelphia area of DE County (and his Achuff roots) and is married with 3 children by age of 23. We assume James was born to Arthur either in IA or MO and had moved east from either WI or CA before 1930.

James Achuff I found on the 1930 census of Delaware county. Married to Edna Pearl Blackburn. Their children were James Jr., Edna, and Mary. There are also alot of other Achuffs listed on this page I am assuming brothers and sisters. As well as other Blackburns. The only James Achuff that was born in 1907 was the son of Arthur Achuff. It states in the census that both of Arthurs parents were born in PA. In the 1900 census I found Arthur living in Iowa, 1910 census in MO, 1920 census in WI, and the 1930 census in CA. I am assuming that this Arthur Achuff is the father of this James Achuff for there are no other James Achuff listed born April 1, 1907. Any help would be great. Also Arthur's father is listed as Washington Achuff who I found only in IA, but born in PA.
