John Davenport and Elizabeth Ackerman

Can someone enlighten me on this couple? Elizabeth was born abt 1781 in Schaghticoke, Rensselaer, New York, a daughter of James/Jacobus Ackerman and Esther/Easter Marshall. All I know is that Elizabeth married John Davenport. They are of the right age to be the John and Elizabeth Davenport living in Brooklyn in 1850, but I really have no idea if this is the right couple or not. When were they married and who are the children? Thanks!

Job Ackerman in Sauk County, Wisconsin

Job Ackerman appears in the censuses only once and that is the 1855 Wisconsin state census in Sauk County. He is sandwiched between Daniel Car (sic, should be Carr)and Abraham Ackerman. Daniel is married to Maria Davenport Ackerman, mother of Abraham Ackerman just below Job. Is Job Maria's son and Abraham's brother? This is the only place I have found this Job. In Job's family, there are 3 males and 2 females. If there are any descendants of Job out there, I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

Barbara W. Tobey's Ackerman Book

While researching my connection to the Ackerman family I came across a posting where someone mentioned the 1980 and 1988 books by Barbara W. Tobey. They said something about the possible publication of a third book. Does anyone have any information about a third edition?

My line is from Nieuw Amsterdam to NJ, to York Co.PA; to Kentucky in 1780. John is a popular name in the KY line from their descent from Jan/John Monfoort and his wife, Kniertje Marston. They are both buried in York Co, PA at the Conewago Colony...their children...or at least several of them joined the move west to Ohio and KY in the 1780's. Is this any of your line??

Frederick W. Ackerman M.D. 1925-2009

Frederick W. Ackerman M.D. completed his circle of life; he passed away on Sunday July 26th 2009. His passing was peaceful at his Rossmoor home while he slept. He died of old age with contributing cardiac and pulmonary issues the side effects of smoking. He lived a full and great life. He was 84 and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his son and his wife, F.Ward and Ann Ackerman of Concord, and their three children, Alex (Walnut Creek), Laura (San Diego), and Alden (San Francisco). He is also survived by his daughter and her husband, Dale and Don Neill of Bend, Oregon and their three children (all in Bend) David and wife Jessica Kaiser; their children Jadon, Reilly, and Brooklyn; Bill Kaiser and his son Mathew, and Jamie Neill and her son Austin. He is also survived by his dear friend and companion, Barbara La Vigne of Rossmoor.

Fred was predeceased by his dear wife of 52 years, Gloria and his sister, Carol Kilner of Palo Alto.

Fred was born in San Francisco and moved to Piedmont, CA in1929. He attended Piedmont High School, Stanford University (Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity) and the Medical College of Wisconsin (Phi Chi Fraternity). He married Gloria Mordy on April18, 1948. He served as a surgeon in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain. He was stationed at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington were he staunchly defended the trout stream next to his apartment during the Korean conflict from 1950 to1952.

Fred was the first Board Certified surgeon in Contra Costa County. He practiced surgery in Concord from 1954 until his retirement in 1983, serving as Chief of Surgery at Mt. Diablo Hospital for many years. During this time he and his family lived happily in the Walnut Knolls area of Walnut Creek. Following retirement in 1986, he and Gloria moved to Rossmoor.

Fred was a founding member of John Muir Memorial Hospital. He and his father-in-law, William H Mordy served on JMMH's first board of directors.

During Fred's practice he was very involved with organized medicine. He served as president of the Alameda-Contra Costa County Medical Society from 1966-1967. Between 1975 and 1978 served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the California Medical Association. During this time he was a registered lobbyist, advising then Governor Jerry Brown. He was instrumental in the passage of the medical insurance liability legislation. Fred also served on the AMA Council on Legislation from 1974-1983 and served as its chairman from 1979-1981. During this time he advised US Congress on medical legislation.

Following retirement Fred served on the board of the Hospice of Contra Costa, now Hospice of the East Bay. He served as its President from 1996 to 1998. He was also a long time member of Rotary. He served as President of Rossmoor's Rotary chapter from 2001-2002.

Fred's interests were in golf, fly fishing, boating, traveling, poker, and music. In his heyday he had a low golf handicap. In his later years he could be seen driving his golf cart all over Rossmoor. He grew up spending many summers at the family vacation house at Lake Tahoe, learning to fish at a young age. He has fly fished around the world. He bonefished the reefs of Christmas Island, fished for every trout throughout the US, New Zealand, Canada and Alaska. He also spent time in salt water. He fished for marlin and sailfish in Mexico and South America and trolled for salmon in the San Juan Islands of British Columbia. Fred found and is the namesake of a very special spot on the Pit River, "Ackerman's Hole," a magical spot where he caught many large trout, sometimes more in number than was real.

Having spent so much time at Tahoe, Fred developed a passion for the water. Starting with the family ski boat on the lake and evolving into boating on the Delta. For three summers the family vacation entailed rental of 55 ft cabin cruisers and spending a month exploring the San Juan Islands of British Columbia. Traveling was always a love of Fred and Gloria. They loved cruise lines. They cruised the world, literally. They took a 91-day trip around the world. Fred's favorite spot was the Antarctic; he developed a real thing for penguins. It was on their second world cruise that Gloria became ill and had to be air ambulanced from Buenos Aires, passing away ten days later.

Fred was an avid lover of games. During his professional years, he was a member of a close nit group of similar professionals that met once a month for poker. One particular hand, that he actually framed, ended with two straight flushes, his to the 8 and his opponent's to the 7. He loved playing bridge, dominos, cribbage, craps and solitaire. When it came to music, Dixieland Jazz was his heaven. Fred attended concerts, theater, and fine dining until the end with his second love, Barbara. He was the best father, adviser, provider, and friend a family could have.

I could not end without mentioning one last life long situation. Fred graduated from Stanford, he was a life long Alumni supporter. His door mat was the Stanford University logo. Gloria was a Cal grad. Life at home was always interesting around "Big Game" weekend. Give them the axe.

Fred was a friend of Bill W. He believed it saved his life.

At Fred's request there will be no services. His cremated remains will privately be dispersed by his family. Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of the East Bay or the charity of your choice.

Published in San Francisco Chronicle on August 9, 2009

Thanks for responding. Have you found a GOOD internet site for geneology. I spent $'s on one, very poor. I am not happy. If you attempted to locate, on the internet, the York's Corner Cemetery, I found it to be located in the wrong place, being on the Palmer or Ghostly or Gostley Rd. Almost where I reside. It should be on the Stone Dam Rd a short distance west of NYS Rt. 19. If by chance you find additional Ackerman information please let me know. Thanks and good luck. Robert A.

I have Isaac's father as James.

** JACOBUS (James) married Maritie Enderse (Anderson) on September 1, 1744 at the Tarrytown Reformed Church. She was born in the year of 1727 and died 1768. Her father is William Anderson, mother Dorcas. Jacobus and Maritie conceived thirteen offspring.

1) David, b. June 8, 1745
2) Willem, b. May 3, 1747
3) Jacobus, b. August 24, 1748
4) Abraham, b. April 17, 1750
5) Marytje, b. April 5, 1752
6) Susanna, b. January 16, 1754
7) Obadia, b. No date given
8) Tabztha Dorcas, b. June 20, 1756
9) Rachel, b. April 25, 1758
10) ** Isaac, b. April 23, 1760
11) Robert, b. 1763
12) Hendricks, b. April 28, 1765
13) Elizabeth, No date given

** ISAAC - b. April 23, 1760, his father is James (Jacobus)I have above. Phillipsburg, NY (Note; not be confused with the Hamlet, Phillipsburg in Allegany Co., NY.)
Census records indicate that Isaac had seven sons and three daughter in Saratoga Co., NY between 1787 and 1817. I do not find his wife’s name, you say Sally Kenyon. (I insert, there were at least two families of Kenyon's in the Town of Willing according to a map, Beers Atlas, dated 1869.)
Isaac served in the Revolutionary War under Lt. Col. VanVeghten’s Regiment in the NY Militia. I do not have the date of death of either Isaac (you say abt 1850 - 1860) nor do I have all the children’s names.

1) Isaac, b. 1785
2) ** Elisha, b. 1791,(from the hand written data I have) d. February 9, 1885
3) Henry, I will add your date of abt 1783
4) Ebenezer, b. 1801

In your original posting, you spoke of one child, Elizabeth Ackerman-Griswold, of Isaac and Sally, and your last posting you speak of Patty Ackerman-Bois, a daughter of Sally. We now have two, correct? Thank's again. Bob

Hi,

I was a little confused by your dates for Isaac's known sons. I have: Isaac b.1760 d 1823 sons: Harry (Henry) b.abt 1783, Isaac b.abt 1785, Elisha b.abt 1793, Ebenezar b.abt 1801. I am sure the others that did not survive are mixed in between.

Thanks so much for the research!! After Issac b.1785 moved to Caton, Steuben Co. NY I have him 1850 census report, I believe he died sometime 1850 - 1860, I find his wife Sally living with her daughter Patty Ackerman-Bois 1860 census. I have not been able to find his buriel place or death date. His daughter Patty and her husband Harmon are buried in Southport N.Y. a short distance from Caton, but no sign yet of Isaac and Sallys cemetery.

Thanks
Denise

I provide the children of Elisha, Isaac included. Please if you find errors or have additional data please forward.

Rachel, the first child, was born on December 4, 1811 in Saratoga, Co., NY. According to my data records states she married Isaac Ackerman in 1832. I think not. On the internet I found Rachel with the same birth date as my records indicate. She died on July 7, 1898 in Iowa and is buried in the Jones County cemetery. Listed on her head stone is she being “the daughter of Elisha and Betsey.” It appears then she was never married.

** Oliver, being the second child, was born on February 3, 1812, (some records say 1813 or 14), Saratoga, Co., NY. He died January 28, 1883 at age 68 yr, 5 mos and this death was two years before his father, Elisha, died. He married Angelina Rogers on February 3, 1833. Angelina was born on November 24, 1813 in Pitcher, Chenango Co., NY the daughter of Josiah Rogers (born 1778, died 1868) and Hannah Whipple (born 1780, died 1849). Angelina died May 5, 1885. Both are buried at the York's Corners Cemetery, Town of Willing, NY

Eleanor, being the third child, was born on May 28, 1818, in Pitcher, Chenango Co., NY, died on January 12, 1891, age 72 yrs, 7 mos, 22 dys. She married Benjamin Gleason, born May 10, 1810, died December 21,1893, age 83 yrs, 7 m, 11 dys. Both are residence on Lot 2 at the York’s Corner Cemetery, Town of Willing, Allegany County, NY. On the same lot are children I will presume to be Eleanor and Benjamin, they are Lewis and Rachel, twins being of the same dates; born 1859 and died in 1860. Betsy, born 1841, died in 1855, age 14, plus two other infants are listed within this burial site, but no head stones. No other information known

Erastus Burris the fourth child was born on January 20, 1821 in Pitcher, Chenango Co., NY. He died on April 8, 1891. He married Annis Bennett on October 29, 1839. Their residence is unknown.

Delilah Nancy the fifth child was born on July 23, 1823 in Pitcher, Chenango Co., NY. Married ------ Grissett, no date. NOTE: Nancy and Delilah are listed as two separate names in Elisha’s “biographical information”. Delilah Nancy and her husband location is unknown.

Dewitt Clinton (aka Dewey) is the sixth child born July 23, 1825 in Pitcher, Chenango Co., NY. He married Thankful A. Bronson on March 1, 1858 in Allegany Co., NY. DeWitt died on May 12, 1910 and Thankful died on September 21, 1893. We can find much has been written on DeWitt in a short biography contained in the “Allegany County and Its People - 1795-1895” written by Jno (John) Minard found at Page 404e. DeWitt’s obituary also contains his many achievements. They did not have any children.
See additional biography on DeWitt Clinton

7) Isaac the seventh child of Elisha was born on December 29, 1827 in Sherburne Township, Chenango Co., NY. He died on May 5, 1893. Married to Catherine M. Babcock on October 29, 1848. This taken from the Ackerman info I have. It shall be noted that Isaac allegedly went to Iowa with his father, Elisha, about 1850. I am however finding differences in birth dates. From data on the internet the following “Isaac” is listed in Iowa as well as Rachel. They are;

Isaac b. 5/20/1810	d. 2/28/1871

Rachel b. 12/4/1811	d. 7/18/1898	daughter of Betsy and Elisha, it says.

Author Hazel M. Shear’s book entitles “The Wellsville Story - The Willing Story ---The Alma Story, copyrighted in 1997, being “Revised and Expanded Edition, First Printing, Published by Benson Smythe Publishing, Christina Case Wightman. Mrs. Shear was the Allegany County as well as the Town of Willing Historian. She was my piano teacher for a very short time. She was very aware of my talent for I had none.
Under Part II, page 171 of the Willing Story in paragraph 2 “ Witter sold the Willing side (this being the Township of Willing, and located on the Township north boundary line) to Milton Chapman of Elmira (NY), Chemung County. Chapman (who had a mill) contracted to Isaac Ackerman and “deeded to one Graves” parts of the lot.” This statement within itself is not dated however other information prior to and after this writing reflects dates of 1848, 1852 and 1854 dates. From my old school attendance book on “District No. 11, Town of Scio (now Willing) being the School Attendance Records during the quarter term commencing the 27th day of November, 1848, the number of days they respectively attended the same.” The “scholar” name and the number of days attendance; the 29th (1848) list nine children; (Note some of the letters within a name are sometimes difficult to read)

Silas Stillman, 64 ½ days
Calphurnia? Stillman, 59 ½ days
Caroline T--willy-ce, 62 ½ days
Lucius Ackerman, 60 days
Lewis Ackerman, 59 days
Jane Ackerman, 68 ½ days
Lorenzo Withey, 55 ½ days
Charles A. Rogers, 55 ½ days

Lucius, Lewis and Jane are Oliver’s children and Charles Rogers a cousin.

I find on 28th of August, 1849 as written by Sarah Ann VanAllen, Teacher and signed by the Justice (unable to read the name) that we now find other Ackerman children names who are unknown to me and have never been mention in the Ackerman genealogy. They are; Emily Ackerman who attended 62 ½ days, Martha, 72 days attendance. I further find on June 4, 1849 a Daniel Ackerman, 53 ½ days, Aug. 15th a Drusilla Ackerman, 10 days and on Dec. 10, 1849 I find a Devilla? Ackerman, Sydney, Daniel, Emily and Martha, in July of 1850, Daniel, Armila and Drusilla Ackerman are listed. In 1851 and late as November of 1852 I find Daniel the only one still listed. After that date I do not find the unknown Ackerman children.

Who’s children were they? A problem occur as to these children parents are. Elisha’s son Isaac born in 1827 most likely, due to his age, could not have children of school age. However, the Isaac so listed in Iowa could have children of age. This same Isaac, by Hazel Shear’s writing, could have “contracted” with Milton Chapman aforementioned. He was the only other Ackerman, besides Elisha, the father who arrived in 1847 and removed in 1850 to Iowa.

Now we have birth date problem with Isaac. We find the birth of Isaac of May 20, 1810 who died in Iowa on February 28, 1871 verses Isaac the seventh child of Elisha born on December 29, 1827. I am inclined to believe the Isaac of 1810 because of the children ages in school in 1849.

Margaret J. the eighth child born in 1830, Sherburne Township, Chenango Co., NY. Married Reuben W. Burrows on July 18, 1852. Burial location unknown. They may be buried in the York's cemetery?

Jane Betsey the ninth child was born in 1832, Sherburne Township, Chenango Co., NY. Married Warren D. Burrows on June 18, 1852 (Were Reuben and Warren brothers?) Jane and Warren are buried at the York’s Corners Cemetery, Wellsville, NY on Lot No. 5. The dates of deaths are listed in the York’s Corner Cemetery book.

Denise; do you more information?

Denise; I forward to you my info I have on Elisha. Again, I too have a problem with Isaac. What I do know about a Isaac, I will e-mail to you shortly.
Biographical History of Elisha Ackerman

ELISHA born in 1791 in Malta, Saratoga County, N.Y. and died on February 9, 1885 in Langworthy, Jones County, Iowa. (Elisha is the son of Isaac and Isaac’s wife’s name is unknown.) He being one of seven sons (only four son’s are known and named) and three daughters. The named son’s are; Isaac, born 1875, Elisha, Henry, no dates, and Ebenezer, born 1801.) Elisha married Betsey (or Betsy) Brundage in 1811. She was born in 1793, Saratoga County, NY. and she died in Langworthy, Jones County, Iowa, on April 4, 1864. Elisha was a Captain in the War of 1812, a member of Collimores, Company 2, (Iowa). He enlisted in 1814 and received a pension. It is known that Elisha and Betsey were residence in the Town of Scio (Willing Township formed in 1851) Allegany Co., NY. I insert the writing of Elisha taken from a book entitled “Allegany County and Its People, 1795-1895“ by Jno (John) Minard at Page 404e from within the biography of DeWitt Clinton Ackerman, Elisha’s son, it states; “About 1833 Elisha Ackerman moved his family to Owego (NY) where he purchased a tract of primitive pine forest then standing on the site of the village. He engaged in lumbering, cleared off the timber from this land and developed a fine farm which he sold about 1847 and changed his residence to Allegany County, where he located on the later known lands of the Mapes farm and station. (My insertion - this land being on Great Lot 38, Willing and Frances Tract in the Robert Morris Reserve. This area is known through history as Mapes from the family of John Mapes, and “station” from the Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad. The railroad, first known, as the Coudersport, Wellsville and Pine Creek Railroad. (P.191 in Minard’s book) and lastly known as the Wellsville, Addison and Galton (WAG) Railroad. The railroad was once owned by the Goodyear family. Mapes Station was also the intersecting point of another railroad line owned by the Goodyear‘s, as it was known, being a branch or spur. This railroad’s purpose was to haul timber from the Hamlet of Alma, NY, area which is located some five miles west of Mape’s Station. The railroad bed beginning area can be observed (2009) near the Pump Station Road, so called, in Alma, thence easterly along the south side of the Honeoye Creek, passed Alma Pond or Beaver Lake, and being on the north side, at the base, of the hill’s from Alma to near Elmwood, once called, now the Stone Dam area. A Township highway, today, is called Mapes Road which runs southerly on the west side of the Genesee River (one of the few Rivers that flows north) for some two miles. The entrance location of the Mapes roadway is nearly one mile west of the junction of N.Y. State Route 19 and Allegany County Road # 29. The WAG (Wellsville, Addison and Galton R.R.) Trail now occupies the old R.R. grade.) Continuing, Elisha remained here only three years, moving in 1850 to Iowa. The Mapes farm was first settled upon by Stillman Rogers about 1830 according to Hazel M. Shear the historian of Allegany County and the Town of Willing. Stillman Rogers is the brother of Angeline, Oliver Ackerman’s wife.

From a photocopied paper I have on Elisha the heading “Biographical Sketches, Page 620, WAYNE TOWNSHIP.” Note; this article is on the internet, under Iowa, Jones County genealogy, cemetery. This article was written about Elisha when he was in Iowa. The biographical states the following: “Elisha, farmer, Sec. 5: (being Section 5 of land location as surveyed in Wayne Township) P.O. Langworthy; born in Saratoga Co. N.Y., in 1791; came to Jones Co. (Iowa) in 1852. His wife maiden name was Betsey (Betsy) Brundage, also a native of New York; they were married, in their native State, 1811; have had eleven children, nine of whom are living - Rachel, Olivia, (should be Oliver), Eleanor, Erastus, Nancy, Delilah, (I have Nancy and Delilah as one person), DeWitt Clinton, Isaac, Margaret, and Jane; of these, a son, Isaac, was in the civil war; he enlisted in 1863, in an Iowa regiment; discharged at the close of the war, 1865; was wounded by being thrown from a horse while in the service, and disabled for life. The subject of this sketch, Mr. Elisha Ackerman, was in the war of 1812; enlisted in 1814, a was in about four months, a member of Capt. Collimore’s Company, No. 2. He has children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, numbering, all together, over one hundred; a number of his grandchildren were also in the late war of the rebellion (seven of them). Mr. Ackerman is nearly 90 years of age, and is one of the oldest men and oldest settlers of Jones Co.; his health is quite good for one of this age, has a good memory, and converses readily, and, aside from a lameness that he has, has no serious physical trouble. He owns eighty acres of land where he lives, and forty acres of timber-land in Monticello Township. He is a Republican.”

Of Elisha’s nine children, attaining maturity, four became residents of this county being Allegany Co., NY. They would be Oliver, Eleanor (Gleason), DeWitt Clinton and Jane Betsey (Warren) Burrows). Note; do not confuse DeWitt Clinton, son of Elisha, with DeWitt Clinton, son of Oliver.

According to my records the children are;

1) Rachel
2) **Oliver (my lineage)
3) Eleanor
4) Erastus Burris
5) Delilah Nancy
6) DeWitt Clinton
7) Isaac
8) Margaret J.
9) Jane Betsey

Hello again,

I wondered if you noticed your Elisha Ackerman also listed in the 1840 census for Owego, Tioga Co, New York. He was there along with Isaac b.1785, and another Isaac much younger. My Isaac then shows up in Caton, Steuben Co. w/family 1850 census. Isaac b.1785 must have pasted away between 1850-1860, I find Sally his wife with her daughter Patty Ackerman-Bois 1860 census Caton. I have not yet found Isaac or Sally's death dates or graves. Patty Ackerman and her husband Harmon Bois are buried in Southport, Chemung Co., that is just a stones throw from Caton, Steuben Co. But no sign of Isaac and Sally.

A little info.!!
Denise

ACKERMAN, formerly of Hygiene.
The death of Mr. James T. Ackerman, which occurred at his home on Azu?a avenue shortly after 8 o'clock on Monday morning. removes from our midst to his eternal reward, another of those sterling Christian characters whose passing away even at the ripe old age of 78 years leaves a void which cannot again be easily filled in our community.
Mr. Ackerman had been in ill health for a number of months, being a sufferer of Bright's disease but none except his medical adviser and the members of his family expected such a sudden termination of his illness.
The funeral services were conducted from the residence on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Isaac Jewell, pastor of the Covina Methodist Church, of which denomination he had been almost a life-long member. The remains wwere tenderly laid to rest in the Oakdale cemetery.
The deceased was a native of New York, being born in New York City June 23, 1827.

The sister of my great grandfather Albert Henry Bowe, was Mabel L. Bowe who married an Ackerman.
Children of Charles R. Bowe and Jerusha Ferry, Mabel and Albert were born in North Bloomfield, Trumbull County, OH.
Mabel born Feb 6, 1862. Died before Feb 1915.
Mabel Bowe Ackermen is listed as an alumnus of Hiram College, Hiram Ohio, class of 1885. My relatives have in their possession a letter written by Mabel to her brother from Cleveland, Ohio to (probably) Ravenna OH where Albert lived. By Feb 1915 When Jerusha died, Albert stated in a civil war pension file that he was the only living child of Charles R. Bowe. So Mabel died before then.
Seeking the spouse and death information for Mabel. It is unknown if she had children.

Hello!!

Yes I'm still here, glad to hear from you. GREAT information! Your Isaac b. 1785 I am pretty sure is my Isaac, father of Elizabeth m. Barney Griswold and Patty m. Harmon Bois. I can track this family from Saratoga, NY to Owego, Tioga Co. NY where I believe Elizabeth Ackerman b.1827 met and married (1845) Barney b.1824 Owego. Then just before 1850 seems like everyone packed up and moved to Caton, Steuben Co. NY. Barney and Elizabeth would be my 6 X great gparents. I did not have the parents of Isaac b.1760, Thank You! Is there a site for the Tarrytown Church Info? I think its so great that you live on your Ancester's Farm. My father left Chemung Co., Steuben Co. when he was young so as a child I visited relatives a few times but did not have a good sense of my ancesters until it was to late to ask questions. My Griswold family have been a tuff bunch seems they were always fighting with each other. As a kid my father lived 10 miles from his Great uncle and never met him, did not know anything about his Great Grandfather who had passed just 1 year before he was born. Soo strange to me because for generations they lived within a 20 mile radius!!

Anyway, good to meet you. If I can help with your research please ask!!

Denise Griswold-Hill

It states that she has a surviving sister Ella Ackerman of Poland Ohio.

I have not yet received a copy of my ggm death certificate so I don't have maiden name info. My GGM was from the North Lima, Ohio area until she moved to Kansas City with my GGF Clark Stanley Ruhlman.

I had hoped that finding her sister Ella would eventually lead to their parents, etc.

By any chance, are you still doing genealogy research on this branch of the Akermans? I am trying to help a friend with the same family. Her ancestor was Margaret Ackerman, who was a sister to your John. There was also a sister named Mary. Could you contact me so we can compare notes?

Hendrick Ackerman d.1849

I have a question about Hendrick Ackerman. I think all the trees I have seen for him give Canada as his death place - yet he's buried in The English Neighborhood Cemetery in Ridgefield, New Jersey.
Did he die while visiting one of his children that moved there? I found his wife Rebecca living with their daughter Rebecca Danielson in 1850; she is also buried in The English Neighborhood Cemetery.
Just curious. Thanks.

Elvira A. Ackerman Adopted

Hi Everyone,

I have a maternal great grandmother (Elvira A. Ackerman per 1900 federal census) who was adopted by a couple surnamed Hartley between 1900 and 1910, according to the 1900 and 1910 federal censuses. I believe that she was born in November 1889. She and her adopted parents lived in Lockport, Niagara County, N.Y. Her status in the 1910 census shows as "adopted daughter", and her name is listed as Elvira A. Hartley. She later married my great grandfather, Glenn H. Lindsay (I believe he lived in Monroe and Niagara Counties much of his life). I feel lucky to have even discovered her true surname, but I would love to find out more. I live in Arizona, but have been thinking about heading to Upstate New York to see if I can uncover any information there. If anyone has any ideas, leads or additional information, I would really appreciate it.

Best Regards,
Todd Finley

Re: Isaac Ackerman m.Sally Kenyon Saratoga Co., NY

Denise - is your site still active? If so please respond. I have some of the genealogical research on two Isaac's. The first Isaac was born on 4/23/1760, son of Jacobus and Maritie Enderse (Anderson), married in Tarrytown Reform Church, NY. Isaac (1760)"census records indicate that Isaac and wife (unknown to me) had seven sons and three daughters". All were born in Saratoga Co., NY. In my records, there are only four son's listed. 1) Isaac, b, 1785, unknown location, Elisha, b. 1791, d. 2/9/1885, (my lineage), Henry, no dates and Ebenezer, b. 1801. Elisha also had a son Isaac, b. 12/29/1827. I now have problem myself. That is, Elisha son Isaac (1827) married Catherine Babcock on 9/29/1848, according to my records. Elisha, his sons, Isaac, Oliver, my third great-grandfather and Dewitt Clinton, as well as four daughters settled in the former Town of Scio, now Willing, Allegany Co., NY. Allegany Co. (on the west)and Steuben Co.(on the east)are adjoin townships. Just info, I reside on the same lands (farm) that Oliver settled on in 1839. Love it!
