Hello, I just purchased an old postcard that I believe is in Dutchess County. I think it is either Rhinebeck or near Pleasant Valley NY. The card is titled, "Ackert Boarding House" and dates from around 1910. - David

Awhile ago I received a packet from a distant cousin in Colorado and I would be happy to send that to you. Let me know what you think of this idea. Take care
Linda

Dear Grace,

Judging from our connection back to Stephen H. Ackert, I was wondering if you have any info on the death of Jane Edmunds?

I think I have Stephen remarried and living in the right area on Horatio Street in Manhattan at the time of the 1900 census. His wife is now Mary (born in Ireland) who is 15 years his younger. They have a young family, even though Stephen is born abt. 1835 according to the census taker.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
John White

Dear Linda,

Thanks for your reply! It has been great using Ancestry.com to learn more about the different branches of my family tree.

Here is my line of descent from Conrad(t):

Conrad Eckert (1745-1835)
+Rebecca Tippel (or Dippel)
Zacharias Ackert
+ Margaret Fraleigh
Samuel Ackert
+Sarah Ann Sleight
Stephen H. Ackert born about 1833
+Jane born about 1841
Sarah Jane Ackert born 4-20-1859 (sister to Charles J. Ackert)
+John White born 1856
John White born 1879
+Josephine Murowski
John S. White, Sr. born 1938
+living mother
John S. White, Jr. (that's me)

It would seem that Conrad Eckert, Sr. is my 5th great-grandfather. His great-grandson son, Stephen wound up in New York City by the time his daughter Sarah was born.

My grandmother was her daughter-in-law and mentioned to me that there was variation in the family name between Ackert/Eckert. Since Sarah died 60 years before the time we discussed the genealogy, my grandmother didn't really recall much about the details.

I am not far from Rhinebeck, and I think it would be quite interesting to visit the area cemeteries where these relations would have been buried.

Many thanks again for your input.

John White

Hi!!
My GGGrandfather was Conrad Eckert. My great grandmother was in the DAR and her pin was handed down to me. On the pin his name is spelled Conrat Eckert. I have no idea who Stephen Echardt is. Are you sure it is the right line of ancestry? Sometime they have the same name but are not part of the line.
I have alot of information on them. I also have a picture of Conrad Eckert and his wife Catherine Filkins Eckert. I would be happy to help you if you can give me some names and maybe I can help you.Linda Stewart

George Henry Ackert - Orange County New York

My 3rd Great Grandfather was George "Henry" Ackert from Blooming Grove \ Hamptonburg \ Washingtonville \ Salisbury Mills, New York. Not far from Dutchess County but I have not been able to make the link to other Ackerts. I have a copy of the family bible handwritten records but it starts with his birth in 1810. I have all the children since then and most of the descendants. Of about 8 children only one male survived to continue the line (William Henry Ackert b: 1842). I have pictures of William Henry (my 2nd Great) and his wife Charlotte Ann Horton (b:1848 d:1890) up until his death in Newburgh, NY in 1918.

G. Henry Ackert died in 1883 but I've never been able to get beyond 1810 or tie it to other Ackert families. So any help would be appreciated. I will be posting the entire tree publicly soon but would like to clean up a few things first.

I saw prior posts regarding the publication "The Palatine Families of New York, 1710" and the family name Eckhardt. I will also go in that direction to see what I come up with.

Thanks much,

Joe Santacroce
Newburgh, NY
jsantacroce@hvc.rr.com

I've been frustrated for many years in trying to more about the ancestry of my third great grandmother, Jane Ackert, born 9 Dec 1822 in Pennsylvania or New York. She married Allen Corner 17 Aug 1841, perhaps at Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and then after having seven children, died on 29 Nov 1858 at Caledonia, Ontario. I know nothing else about her except that she might have had a brother, James, also settling in Ontario.
Hi, Pat,
Sorry. I haven't done much beyond determining there were a whole lot of Ackerts living in the Esquesing Twp, Halton County area. A Peter Ackert from Pennsylvania, b. ca. 1793, and his wife, Catherine Traver, b. 28 Jan 1799 in Dutchess County, NY, settled in Halton County. They had 8 children and many grandchildren I've traced in the civil registration indexes. I was hoping to link James and Jane into that family, but no luck. I'm thinking they are related, but back in the States. I also found a bunch of Ackert gravestones in the graveyard in Lucknow, Ontario, where my grandmother is buried. I took photos of them. Hope you are well too,
Stephen

Ida:
Since you are dealing with Eckerts in Pa., I suspect they may be descendants of a Conrad Eckert who is recorded arriving in Philadelphia in the 1730s. That is not the same family as the Ackert/Eckhardt family of Rhinebeck. Conrad Eckert/Ackert was born in Rhinebeck in 1745, the son of Johan Peter Eckhardt, who was the son of Adam Eckhardt who arrived in New York in 1710 and settled first in Germantown, NY, and later in Rhinebeck.

Stan Ackert

Info

Hello, my name is William Cavanagh and I’m hoping that you may be able to help
me. I was born September 26, 1967, and my original name was William Burt Ackert.
I was adopted by a wonderful couple and have had a very fulfilling life. I am trying
to locate my birth parents, and I have some information that may be helpful.
10-6-67 Placed in foster home till 2-21-68
According to the New York State Department of Health, the adoption was handled by
the Niagara County and Nassau County Departments of Social Services. At the time,
my birth mother was 21 years old, 5’3”, with brown eyes and brown hair. She was working as a secretary. My birth father was 23 years old, 5’9”, also with brown hair
and brown eyes. He was reported to be of Irish English descent, and employed as a mechanic. My birth parents had been dating for over year and felt that they were unable to care for a baby. It has also been reported that I was born in the town of Glen Cove,
on Long Island. Unfortunately, I cannot be sure that any of this information is accurate.
I am 6’1”, with brown hair and brown eyes, approximately 220lbs.

In writing this letter, it is my hope that I may find out something about them, or my family history. It is not my intention to intrude or cause problems for either of them. Their decision to put me up for adoption afforded me a wonderful life with two loving parents. I simply wish to know more about where I came from. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I am also registered with the state. Please
contact me with any information at. E-mail address is ACKERT123 @ AOL.com.

Sincerely,

William Cavanagh
In checking, I found on Ancestry,"Stephen Ackert, under Local History" a fantastic story about Stephen.
If this is your Stephen ACKERT, I have the list of his brothers and sisters (8).
Linda: My great-great-grandfather was Tobias Ackert, brother of Nelson (who founded the firm of Ackert & Quick in Yonkers with his cousin Francis Nelson Quick). Their father, Conrad, Jr. married Catherine Filkins, and both are buried in the Wurtemburg Cemetery across from St. Paul's. I have the family bible which belonged to Conrad Jr.'s brother, Levi Ackert. I, too, would be very interested in obtaining a copy of the photograph of Conrad, Sr. and Rebecca (I am assuming it's Conrad, Sr., who died in 1835, which would make it a very early photo; it could be Conrad Jr. with his mother).
