I have his wife as Tabitha Elizabeth Allega-Street.
I have his children as follows: born to him and Tabitha are:
Sedelia (aka Lydia)b. 1864 in MO.
Stephen D. Ackles b. 1869.,
Wm Street,
Mary Street,
Sarah Street.

His father is James Ackles who is married to an Elizabeth Rader.
James is born abt. 1810 in Ohio (per census) and she the same time.
They have these children:
George b. 1832,
James b. 1841,
Margaret b. 1834,
Louisa b. 1838,
Mary b. 1836,
Sarah b. 1839,
Elizabeth b. 1846
Manerva (Mattie?) b. 1844.

Can anyone help me to tie them into the other Ackles? Like which one of the 7 brother's is this James Ackles Sr. related to? I thought it was William M. Ackles, but am not sure now.

Hazen ACKLES, 83, Waltham: Hazen M. Ackles, owner and president of Ackles Steel Co. of Waltham, died Saturday in Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Newton. He was the widower of Constance (Phillips) Ackles.

Born in Parsboro, Nova Scotia, he had previously resided in Weston. He had attended Brigham Young University.

Mr. Ackles was a member of the Waltham Rotary Club and the Waltham Jaycees. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and had enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his children, Jane Moretti of Wrentham, William Ackles of Salem, NH, and Susan Alimi of Fryeburg, Maine; a brother William Ackles of Belmont; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a companion, Susan Carter of Waltham.

He was the brother of the late Clayton Ackles, Muriel Wolcott, and Irene Young.

A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St., Route 20, followed by a funeral service at 10 in the First Baptist Church, 400 Lexington St. Burial will take place in the Linwood Cemetery, Weston.

James Eckles (Ackles)-Loyalist

James Eckles came from Dutchess Co., New York. He fought in the Revolution as a Loyalist under Col. Delancey. He filed a loss claim for losses he suffered in Morrisania (now the Bronx) when it was burned. He also suffered losses when he left home (wherever that was) when taken prisoner by Col. Luddington. Col. Luddington was in the Dutchess Co. area, so he could have been part of the Fishkill connection. He was suspected of "going to the British". He was held prisoner in Philadelphia, Lancaster and other places and then joined with Delancey. At the end of the war he went to Nova Scotia and was granted land. He married Jean (Jen)--- and had five children, Sarah, Jacob, William, James, and Robert. Does anyone have any information about a possible James in their lists that this could be. I have much of the Nova Scotia history, but am not able to track down the NY connection. I am seeking his parents, or possibly his arrival to the States. Any info., however, remote would be appreciated. Also info on possible sources to explore in the New York area. Thanks. Debbie

There was a James Ackles of Fredricksburg Precinct, currently part of Putnam County, NY, who in 1780 was fined for having a son go off and join the enemy. Fredricksburg Precinct used to be part of Dutchess county. Coincidently, Col. Luddington was from Fredricksburg precinct as well. He was the Col. that took my James prisoner. So I believe my James' father was named James as well. Another interesting tidbit although it may be meaningless is that Col. Luddington had a son named Tertulles. How common that name was I don't know, so it may be of no significance, or it may have been a local fad which would possibly connect our two James. I can find no trace of "Papa"James other than that but I'm wondering if he didn't transplant himself to Orange County. re. your James in Orange County, what years and age is he? Is he listed on a census with two adult males in the house. Could he have been living with one of his sons, possibly a brother of my James? I would like to visit your family page, but how do I contact you?

My mother's name was Mary Ackles. Her father was Frank O. Ackles and his father was Stephen S. Ackles. (from New York to Michigan. I have a cousin named Allan Ackles and his father, my uncle, was James Ackles. I have found the English meaning for the name Ackles is "from the oak grove".
Have you heard from from anyone in England?
I have had no contact from any Ackles outside the U. S. though I do have several Ackles cousins spread thoughtout the U.S.

He and his wife settled in Sullivanville, NY near Horseheads, NY. They are buried in a small cemetary on the only road that is just off of the old sullivanville road that is off of route 13. I was hoping for the names of Abraham and his wifes parents names. Is there any way you could find these out for me?

I descend from Jacob Silliker, a United Empire Loyalist from New York, who came to Shelburne, NS in 1783 and then to Prince Edward Island.

My research seems to indicate that Jacob's original surname was Hilliker and that he was born at New Rochelle, NY. The Hilliker family of Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, and New Rochelle is originally of German stock with some Dutch, French Huguenot, and English heritage mixed in.

Some descendants of Jacob Silliker married persons of Scottish heritage, so perhaps this is where the tradition of Scottish ancestry in your family derives.

My Name is John Akles, I am 46 years old. My dad, also John Akles just died November 18, 2002. This will make it difficult to confirm, but I believe my dad's uncle John, whom he was named after, is one in the same. My dad was born in St. Joseph Missouri January 14, 1929. They were married on Jan. 2, 1873 in Henry CO., Iowa at the home of Charles Ackles

My father-in-law, Kenneth Ackels, remembers lots of stories about his Uncles and Aunts and talks about them.

It's amazing that I recognized your brief mention about the story of Uncle Mutt and his tragic passing in the snow storm.

Please contact me and we can share our data. I have lots of data on Sheldon's parents (Joseph and Elizabeth "Betsey" Ackles) and about his grandparents Richard Ackles and Elizabeth Morey.

Shirley mentioned to you that there is a small group of researchers looking into the Ackles family and we are desperately trying to tie in the "original" 7 Ackles brothers and their one sister to a set of parents. No real luck so far - but we're bound to do it some day.

Plus I have had a brickwall in trying to find our Emma C. Rose's family and printed your message on Divias Rose. I had checked the census data from Haverstraw but never could find Emma in all the many Rose families.

Greetings to all members of the Ackles Family. We are holding an Ackles Family Reunion in Amherst, Nova Scotia on 16-18 August, 2003. While primarily aimed at the Canadian Ackles descended from James Ackles, who was expelled from New York in 1783 for fighting on the side of the British, we have decided to open up the invitation to all Ackles. From what I can see, most of the Ackles in the US are descended from either James’ brothers or his Uncle Richard, so we are actually all one big family. Already, I know that some of our American cousins are planning to attend.

My uncle was Bruce Ackles. My father was James Richard Ackles. Bruce Ackles played Bass in, I think, Seattle Orch.
in about 1950 or so. His wife, as I remember, was very shy.
I lived with the family for a short time back in the 40's. At that time I think they lived in Des Moines WA (S of Seattle). Also
Bruce was a good fisherman and set traps in Puget sound.

I just started to do some research on my family the Silliker's and, within my family we had always believed that the Silliker's were Scottish! However, I haven’t been able to find where they came from in Scotland. In this case, it lowers my suspicions that we are as my family always believed to be Scottish!? I did however; read that the Silliker's could have been Dutch? Of course, when I mentioned my findings to my family no one believed me... So, I hope that maybe someone out there knows where the Silliker's came from? Like I said, I hope someone out there can inform me where the Sillikers are originally from! You help could solve this big family mystery.. hehe Thank you!

While looking for info on my own Ackles connection I found myself on the Street family page, who have your Emma Rose and Sheldon Ackles. The link is below. You will find them about 3/4 of the way down.

I am the great grand daughter of James Ackles b. 1861 in Onondaga County, NY., shown as married to Maggie. Her name was Margaret McKinley b. 1868. They had two additional daughters, Mary b.abt 1889 and Greetis Izora b. Mar 30, 1909, who was my maternal grandmother. Maggie died in 1909, of typhoid I believe. My grandma was raised by her sister, Mary, who was known as Granny to us kids. We girls have been told a million times that we 'come from a long line of strong and independent women', especially when we'd whine about anything! And yes, we grew up in Michigan. However, I find it very interesting that there may be a Nova Scotia connection. In 1983 I moved to Canada to study Agriculture, bought a farm in Quebec and found myself working in Nova Scotia, a place which feels like home although I'm back in the States now.

Would you mind if I visit your family page? It's good to know there are more Ackles out there.
