FOURTH GENERATION

19. Beatrice Randall1. It was a wonderful revelation to know that my Ackley family is related to one of the families that establishing the Oneida Company, makers of high quality silver-ware. Guess what! I have Oneida Community silverware that I acquired early in my marriage of nearly 48 years.

I have considerable information about Willard Leroy Ackley that was acquired through the Langlade County Historical Society, who in 1979 dedicated an historical marker to him and produced a bound volume about the pioneers of the Town of Ackley in eastern Wisconsin. Naturally, my late mother had other information in her own files that added to the information base. I have taken the first steps toward writing a history of my Ackley family ancestors, so I've had to do a lot of sorting out to decide which details are most vital for the project.

One of my Chippewa ancestors came to be known as Queen Marinette. In fact, the modern city of Marinette in Wisconsin is named after her. She was named Q. M. because, through her marriage, she was connected to the French monarchy. Her mother, White Dove, was a sister to Ma-da-gee-wa-no-qua. They were both daughters of our second chief, Ma-gee-see.

On my Randall side of the family, I am a 6th cousin to Theodore Roosevelt. Besides the Ackleys and William Johnson who came to eastern Wisconsin, there were others such as Whilhelm Dinesen and Ludwig Motzfeldt, Danish and Norwegian, respectively, who came and took Chippewa wives. Whilhelm Dinesen's daughter in Denmark, wrote the book, "Out of Africa." She tried to meet up with her half sister, Emma Dinesen, but became ill
and had to return to Denmark. So you can see that my background is diverse and interesting.

She was married to Roy Piepenburg.1
