I recently was gifted several publications with genealogical information and there are two articles I have found on the Ackley family. I don't know anything about the family but if anyone is interested, let me know. Please provide me the citation information if you e-mail me directly.

Who was Eunice (Collins) Ackley of Cutler, Maine?
I guess we can't make a connection with our Mary Ackley's after all. My earliest Ackley was born in the early 1800's in New York and he went to Ohio where he settled. With your Mary's birth date being around 1900 I would think some Ackley researcher could help you before long.

Good luck!

Hmmm...

The Mary J Ackley that I have was born around 1900 to a William H. Ackley and an Amanda L. Bailey.

I believe she had 6 siblings, but I only know of 3 brothers, George W, Arthur H. and Charles E.

I show that Charles E. was married to a Faith Straub, but my father remembers calling her Faye. I am trying to identify if Faith and Faye are the same person, or if Charles had a second wife? My dad also said that Charles was a farmer and that he had three kids. Charles Jr, George and Michael (I could be wrong on the last two names though).

Lorenzo Dow Renfro - Reafy Ann Ackley

Seeking info on this couple who married July 1848 in Mahaska, Iowa. They were in District 13, Wapello,Iowa the 1850 Iowa census with their daughter Mary Angeline, born Jan 1850.

Lorenzo was born in Madison Co., Illinois in May 1824. In 1900 he was a resident in National Home for Disabled Soldiers in Milwaukee, WI and I think he died soon after that but I don't know where or when. After Reafy died in about 1851 in Iowa?, he married Julia A Griffith and had other children.
Lorenzo's parents were William Renfro and Elizabeth Hall.

Reafy Ann was born in Ohio according to the 1850 Iowa census. She died sometime after that I believe in Iowa.

I think her parents were John Ackley (1801-1871) and Nancy Elsey (1804-1881).

John Ackley was born in NY. In the 1850 Iowa census lived nest to Lorenzo & Reafy, then moved to LaPorte Co., Indiana. Nancy Elsey was born in Virginia.

Their daughter Mary married Frederick O Minor in abt 1865 in prob. LaPorte County, Indiana. She died in Oklahoma Oct 6, 1912.
I am looking at the 1850 census for Enoch, Monroe, Ohio on page 33. On this page are the families of Erastus Ackley, Obed Ackley and Philander Ackley. Living between Obed's family and Philander's family is John Alltop and Amy Morris.

I am of the following opinion, based on Daniel's will and the fact that Russel lives with Benjamin Weekley in late life. That Erastus and Obed are brothers, this from the will. Philander is a son of Russel and cousin to Erastus and Obed. John Alltop is Matilda Ackley's son and Philander's nephew.

Does anyone agree or have proof to the contrary?

Brothers, Daniel and Abel/Abram Ackley

I am looking for any information on Abel/Abram Ackley, the brother of Daniel. I do believe his daughter, Emma Jane, married David Rife in Ross County on 5 Oct 1868. Her death cert list Abraham Ackley as her father.

The only census record I can locate for Abram, that lists names is the 1860 census for Cincinnati. Possibly an earlier record for 1840 in Noble living near Erastus Ackley, and also 1840 in Newport, where Russel and a David Ackley live. There is also a 1830 census for an Abraham Ackley living in Muskingum, which could be him.

Information on the family is sketchy, and what I have come across on the web appears inaccurate.

Currently I think his family is as follows:

Home in 1860:	Cincinnati Ward 15, Hamilton, Ohio
Household Members:

Abram Ackley	50 Daniel's brother
Rhoda Ackley	45 Abram's wife
Lewis Ackley	37 possible son of Abram
George Ackley	10 son of Lewis
Hesakiah Ackley	8 son of Lewis
Esther Mccarty	26 Abram's dtr
Ruth Mccarty	9 Esther's drt
Laura E Mccarty	7 Esther's dtr
Josiah Mccarty	2 Esther's son
Kate Corkaline	19 unknown relationship b Ireland
Abram Ackley	19 son of Abram
Emma J Ackley	15 dtr of Abram

I believe Lewis is a widower, his wife was named Delilah (maybe Courmatry or Cuntryman)He can be found in the 1850 census in Mason, KY along with Delilah and George and in 1870 Cincinnati with Hesekiah. He died in 1871, and is buried at the Wesleyan Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Esther is the wife of Josiah McCarthy. They can be found in Cincinnati in 1850 under J H Mc Corty and Esten Mc Corty. Josiah and the drts are also listed in Crosby, OH on the 1860 census for whatever reason. Then together in Cincinnati in 1870. Interesting here is that Ruth married Thomas Fogle, that would be her second cousin, the grandson of Daniel Ackley.

Kate Corkaline is probably Kate Corcoran, a milliner who was in business with the widow Marsh. Marsh and Corcoran Millinery is in the Cincinnati Directory. Perhaps just a boarder. I can find no relationship to the family.

Abram Jr married Phoebe Ann Baldwin in 1862. They had a son, Harry. He lives with his grandparents, William Stiles and Elizabeth ? Baldwin in Cincinnati in 1880. The record says he is 10, but he is most likely older than that. Harry dies in Butler County in 1928. Abram and Phoebe have not been located as a couple on the census nor Harry in 1870. AbraHam was part of the 5th Ohio infantry. Abram died of heart disease 11 Jun 1876 in Cincinnati, Phebe died 14 Mar 1879 in Cincinnati. They also had a stillborn male child on 5 Mar 1876. Abram was a saddler in 1860 and a carriage trimmer at the time of his death. Abram, Phoebe and their stillborn son are buried in the Wesleyan Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Emma J. died 28 Feb 1918 while at her son's, Edward Rife, in Detroit, Michigan. They had lived in Cadiz Jct, Ohio and that is where she was buried.

Abram Ackley died in Cincinnati. Death reg as follows:
Eckley – Abramham
MWM 85 8-25-75
620 Central Ave
Germany Laborer
Fracture, base of skull
Dr. J. Neave
Ackerman Wesleyan

Place of birth is odd, census says NY. This is the right Abraham. Rhoda, his widow is in the city directory at the 620 Central Ave address. 85 years of age puts birthdate in 1790, closer in age to his brother Daniel than the 1860 census states, which puts his birthdate as 1810.

I am hoping to find any information on Abel/Abram/Abraham and Roda/Rhoda Ackley. When and where Rhoda may have died, if they had other children and if Lewis is a son, maybe from a first wife. Also confirming docs for proof of relationships.

Thanks all!

They were close in age and supposed to have both married Benjamin Weekley but I would LOVE to move to New York for a couple of months and then to Ohio via Indiana for a couple of more.
Thank you for stating what I have wondered for years.
I'm ready to go to New York and research.
Take Care,
Jo in Arizona

Are you sure Madelena Altop that married Benjamin Weekly in 1815 was an Ackley?
I don't think it is possible that Madelena could be Daniel's daughter. The ages just seem to be way too close. A sister seems more likely in my opinion, but ya never know.
I think that Matilda Ackley Altop Weekly was most likely the daughter of Russel.
The problem is that I think somewhere along the line a researcher made too many presumptions and they have taken off like wild fire and the truth now needs to be weeded out.
In my opinion somebody confused Russel and Daniel into one person and Russel/Rusha combined into Ancenith. I have seen nothing but unsourced family trees with the names Daniel Russel and Jerusha Acenith Ackley. Frankly I think a long ago researher thought that the male Rusha was a female and that is where the confusion started.
Wish I had some sources to verify infomation.
Many trees show Daniel and Acenith with other children not mentioned in the will. I know these "children" live in the area, but I am not sure if they belong to Daniel or Russel or Abram or a different family member.
Too many question. Just venting.

Hi Sixwix,

Thank you for the info on Marry Fogle. I am looking for information on her parents. George Alltop & Matilda Ackley are also the parents of my John Alltop who married Amy Morris. John and Amy had George Alltop who married Artemisa Campbell. Artemisa is my Great Grandmother. She married George Alltop/Altop in either Missouri or Kansas in 1872. Do you have anything on Marry Fogle's parents, George and Matilda? Also Matilda's sister is the Mary Magdalena who your Marry Fogle was named after. Mary Magdalena would have been your Marry's aunt, sister of Matilda. Mary M. was born in 1797 in New York and Matilda born in 1806 in New York. I have never been able to get marriage of Mary M. (1797) and Thomas Alltop but it must have been before she married Benjamin Weekley in Ohio in 1815 when she was 18 yrs of age and before she had her 1st child with Benjamin in 1816. I don't know what relation Thomas Alltop was to George Alltop who married Matilda but I am sure they were related. George and Matilda's 4th son was named Benjamin. Mary M.'s husband by that time was Benjamin Weekley and when George Alltop died, Matilda married Benjamin Weekley. Also, Russell/Rusha lived with Benjamin in Ohio after both women died.
Would you be able to shed any light on George and Matilda Alltop or tell me more about where you got your info on them? I would greatly appreciate it.
If you would not mind I would like to connect with any of the decendants of George and Matilda and enter them into my database. If anyone would care to send me their info I would love to see it. I do not publish and would appreciate my info when shared to not be published by others But would love to share with anyone.
Thank you,
Jo in Arizona
jofwhf@aol.com

I am a great granddaughter of Katherine & Jacob Gessel. I was born in Salt Lake City, but have lived in VA most of my life. I didn't know I had a relative so close (W. VA!). I have a sister named Stephanie. What kind of history are you looking for? My mom, daughter of Clara Eliza ("Liz")Gessel and Lorenzo Edwin ("Ren") Tibbitts, has told me many stories about her parent and Katherine & Jacob Gessel. Are you looking for the Jacob Gessel who was a Brickmaker in Providence, Utah?

Hope you reply,

Lisa Holt (you can email me at lisaholt@mail.com)

Also a Matilda Ackley born about 1807 in New York. Also married Ben Weekley after Mary died. Matilda married an Alltop before Ben Weekley. All three died in Ohio. Daniel Ackley or Russell Ackley lived with Ben Weekley in Ohio. Thank you if you can help me.

Betty, in your post you mentioned a connection between Daniel Ackley and the Nicholas Ackley line in Connecticut. You wrote: "but records indicate he is a descendent."
Any idea of what those records are?
Thanks,
Mark Ackley

Ackley family in Westchester County, N.Y.

Looking for someone related to Felix Ackley of Pleasantville, N.Y. He lived in the early 1800s and was married to Sarah Dayton. They had children Felix, Daniel, William, Elizabeth, Anna and Mary. Daughter Elizabeth married Benjamin Smith and can be first found in the 1870 census for Mt. Pleasant, N.Y. Benjamin was a shoemaker and their children are listed as Benjamin, Sarah, Marvin and George. I am searching for clues to Sarah Dayton's ancestry.

Steve
ACKLEY - Hugh Randall and Orville Roy

My sister picked up a photo of these two gentlemen to use in her cardmaking business. However, there were names on the back and she asked me to look them up on Ancestry in case anyone was researching them. She wants to use the photo but would be happy to email it to any Ackley descendants.Hugh and Orville came from Canyon in Idaho and Hugh married a woman called Inez. The brothers were both called up for the war in 1917-18.

Do get in touch if this is of interest.

Ackley's Market

I have a picture of a great-aunt and uncle taken in front of a market. I don't know where or what state but all I can read on the sign over the business is "ACKLEYS MARKET AND GROCERIES". This great-aunt and uncle were from Missouri and moved to California in 1912 or 1913 and she died in 1914. They may have lived at Sterling, Ca but she died at the hospital in Chico. If anyone can help figure out where Ackleys Market used to be that would be wonderful. I am not having any luck.
