I have stumbled upon some important new information that I think will solve a lot of mysteries out there. There is quite a bit of incorrect information floating around concerning the elusive James B WILKIE and Nancy ACORD who married in Scott County, Missouri. I think the following info might change your tree a bit. Please let me know if you have any questions:
James Virgil WILKEY was the son of Carter WILKEY and Artimessia KIMBALL-WILKEY
He was born 11 Dec. 1857 in Jefferson County, Illinois. Around 1881 He moved to Southeast Missouri
near Morley, in Scott County. Where he met and married Rachael ACORD, on 2 July, 1882.
Rachael was born 17 July, 1861 in Hamilton County, Illinois and she was the daughter of Martin
Van Buren ACORD and Elizabeth WRIGHT-CLICK-ACORD-REEVES and to this union were
Three Children Born:
Pearl Forest WILKEY (b) 1883 Scott County, Mo
Cora Mae WILKEY (b) 23 Jan 1888 in Morely, Scott, Missouri
Millard Fillmore WILKEY (b) 1892 in Scott County, Missouri
Rachael died sometime after Millard was born in 1892 and 1894 when James married her Sister
Nancy ACORD on 3 Dec. 1894, in Scott County, Missouri. The marriage record erroneously
states his name to be: James B. WILKIE however I believe this to be
a clerical error. According to a statement given to me by my Mother
Mary Margaret ESTERLINE-EADS who was the daughter of Cora and the
Granddaughter of James Virgil WILKEY. She stated that when her grandmother
Rachael Passed away that her grandfather James Virgil married her
grandmothers sister. Thus when he stated his name for the Marriage
Record he more than likely said: "James V. WILKEY" and they heard
a "B" instead of a "V" which anyone knows these two letters are commonly
mistaken for one another. And of course if he wasnt asked to give the proper
spelling of his Surname, then its possible the Clerk just spelled it as it
sounded to him or her, thus resulting in WILKIE.
James and Nancy had three children:
Mary E. WILKEY (b) 1903
Charles C WILKEY (b) 1904
Birtie Ann WILKEY (b) 1905
The family referred to James by his middle name "Virgil" so when you ask my
mother what her grandfathers name was she will tell you "Virgil WILKEY". It took
me sometime to track down the correct Virgil WILKEY. Had I not of stumbled across
the marriage record for he and Rachael, I may never have known his name to be James Virgil.
