Re: Acre Variations

The first in our line was Peter Eckhardt from Germany
His son Lambert went to Canada and the name was changed to Acre. Anglicanizing it because of the British. Some were shortened to Ecker I think they stayed in the US.

There are other Acres with French Ancestry and some British or maybe Irish.
not sure if that helped.

Toni Maize's posting reminded me of my Acre path that ends in Kentucky. Robert Acre was born in Hardin county KY in 1808 and migrated to Putnam County MO in 1856 after several years in Virgo county Indiana. Hopefully as you check for William Acre of Waye county you could also check for Rober born in Hardin co.

Thanks

Acre b.10-1867 in Aylmer Ont.Canada
wife Martha Harriet Chambers b. 7-1869
they were married in 1887 in Lapeer Michigan.
children: Irvin M acre, James Elgin Acre,
Alice Louisa Acre b.11-24-1892 in Bay City,MI
Roy Acre, Delbert Acre and Verna May Acre.

Siblings of George were:
James Acre, Ida Acre and Libby Acre.
OTHER STUFF:
The family name of Acre comes from a
sea port town named Acre near Palestine.
The meaning of the name is "I live in hope"
The spelling of the name changes beacuse
during the census if you couldn't spell
your name the census taker would spell it
how it sounded.
The Acre's originally were from England.
The Acre's were Latter Day Saints.
Most of the Acre's were left handed.
Most of the Acre's were red-heads.
George Acre had a fondness for hard cider,
wine and beer which possibly shortened his
life to 58 years.

This info and much more about family
traditions is from a 18 page letter
from my great aunt Ruby, granddaughter of
Alice Aker.
I am still looking for other family.
If you have family that sounds anything
like this or have family from the area
I would like to put it all together.
Thanks Lesley
jerrynlesley@hotmail.com

Looking for information on the Foreaker/Fouracre(s) clan.
Any information on Francis Foreacres (and Thomasina) who I assume to be from the Devon area of England from about 1667.
The had a son, Richard Fouracres (I) b. 1667 in Devon, England, who was sent to America as punishment (8 July 1685. The following convicted before Chief Justice Jefferies at
the Court of Oyer and Terminer for Dorset, Somerset and Devon for
waging war against the King and sentenced to be transported to the
Americas [sentence enrolled on 4 February 1691])
"Seems as if the Foursacres were a rough sort of lot as they were
excommunicated from England. They were arrested several different times
for "not attending church service" and for oweing money to people. That
is probably why the name was changed to Acors (supposedly there were 3
brothers who went different ways - one stayed Fouracres, one became Acres
and the other became Acors). "
info related to any of this would be great.
He had a son, Richard (II) but I don't know who the mother is. Richard (II) b. 1709 essex virginia d. 1760 essex VA. Married Hannah.
They had a son Richard (III) b. Aug 1728 essex VA d. 1823 spotslyvania, VA.m. Elizabeth cash (b. 1742)
Son was William b. 1771 MD, d. 1834 Ohio, married Sara Johnston (Johnson)
Son was Joshua Foreaker b. 1787 Bedford PA d. 1868 cumberland, IL married Mary Smith (b. 1790)
Son was John Washington Foreaker b. 1817 Morgan, Ohio. I do not have a DOD. But he married Malissa Simeral.
Son was John b. 1841 Hockling, Ohio d. 1918 Illinois married Lucy Jane Ratliff (b. 1848)
Son was Isaac Newton Foreaker b.1879 in Illinois (my great-grandfather)
Any help filling in the blanks, since I have only been chasing the direct line, would also be great.
New Info on family of William Acre d 1688 Lancaster Co VA

The two daughters of William Acre Sr who died 1688 in Lancaster Co VA both married in nearby Richmond Co VA.

Katherine Acre (Acree/Ackers/Accus) married William Percivall bf June 19, 1714 in Richmond Co Va

Elizabeth Acre m Cormack McCarman bf June 19, 1714 in Richmond co VA.

The marriage records show that their brother William Acre Jr was deceased by June 19, 1714. I am wondering if that is the date of his will, and currently I am trying to get a will lookup in Wills of Richmond Co by Robert Headley. If I can't get a lookup I will try to find a copy of the book!

No mention of their mother, so she may also have died previous to 1714.

The marriage records are also from a book by Robert Headley, entitled "Married Well & Often: Marriages in the Northern Neck of Virginia". Excellent book!

I am wondering if they are related also. This WILLIAM ACRE or Acree of Lancaster Co VA had four children: William, Katherine, Elizabeth & Mary, all born early 1700s. I haven't researched further, but it is entirely possible that William born early 1700s was the grandfather of your William Acre b 1752 Frederick Co MD (which is not that far from Lancaster Co VA).

If I find anything more, I'll let you know. I am very interested in the Acre family as my ancestor RANDOLPH MILLER of Lancaster VA was married to KATHERINE who may have been sister to WILLIAM ACRE who died 1688. RANDOLPH MILLER was listed as 'brother & executor' in WILLIAM'S will. I am taking that to mean that RANDOLPH MILLER was brother in law to WILLIAM ACRE, although there is a remote possibility they were stepbrothers.
