New Info on family of William Acre d 1688 Lancaster Co VA

The two daughters of William Acre Sr who died 1688 in Lancaster Co VA both married in nearby Richmond Co VA.

Katherine Acre (Acree/Ackers/Accus) married William Percivall bf June 19, 1714 in Richmond Co Va

Elizabeth Acre m Cormack McCarman bf June 19, 1714 in Richmond co VA.

The marriage records show that their brother William Acre Jr was deceased by June 19, 1714. I am wondering if that is the date of his will, and currently I am trying to get a will lookup in Wills of Richmond Co by Robert Headley. If I can't get a lookup I will try to find a copy of the book!

No mention of their mother, so she may also have died previous to 1714.

The marriage records are also from a book by Robert Headley, entitled "Married Well & Often: Marriages in the Northern Neck of Virginia". Excellent book!

I am wondering if they are related also. This WILLIAM ACRE or Acree of Lancaster Co VA had four children: William, Katherine, Elizabeth & Mary, all born early 1700s. I haven't researched further, but it is entirely possible that William born early 1700s was the grandfather of your William Acre b 1752 Frederick Co MD (which is not that far from Lancaster Co VA).

If I find anything more, I'll let you know. I am very interested in the Acre family as my ancestor RANDOLPH MILLER of Lancaster VA was married to KATHERINE who may have been sister to WILLIAM ACRE who died 1688. RANDOLPH MILLER was listed as 'brother & executor' in WILLIAM'S will. I am taking that to mean that RANDOLPH MILLER was brother in law to WILLIAM ACRE, although there is a remote possibility they were stepbrothers.

Acree Surname DNA Project

An Acree Surname DNA Project has been initiated to evaluate (1) the extent to which Acree males in the U.S. relate to one another and (2) the possibility that many Acrees living in the U.S. share a common
colonial/immigrant ancestor who came to America from the British Isles in the 17th or early 18th century. The project will compare Y-Chromosome ("Y-DNA") markers that fathers pass to sons. Males with the surname Acree (and close variations, including Acre, Acres, Acrey and Akre) living in the U.S. and abroad are encouraged to participate.

Visit the project webpage at: http://users.wirelessfrontier.net/~acree/ydnaacree.html

Marilyn: My Lambert Acre(Ecker) was from the Schoharie, New York area. He came to Canada as an United Empire Loyalist. His last name was originally Ecker but was changed to Acre when he registered for land. The family orginated from the Palinitate in Germany and the original name was Eckhardt. Many of Lambert's descendants moved from Ontario, Canada to the Flint Michigan area around 1865. I still live in Ontario. Lambert was my great great great grandfather. Hope this information will be helpful.
Joseph N. Acre
dacre5611@rogers.com
Acre-Darpentigny

Bonjour,

I have information on the Darpentigny family that lived on Île Perrot in the St. Lawrence River, near Montral. My ancestors also lived there for quite a while.

Do you have more information and dates for Charles Acre-Darpentigny and his descendants, his wife, so that I could search in my genealogy files for a Charles Darpentigny (same as de Repentigny or De Repentigny or Derepentigny and before that Le Gardeur).

Leo-Guy de Repentigny
Loretteville, Quebec, Canada

hi there, many years have passed since you posted, but I am a relative of the Ecker family from Michigan via Ontario, via New York, via Germany,

Gertraude is the beginning of my history too. I think I have travelled the byways through Nicholas.
My greatgrandmother was Margaret Ecker married to John Bellinger. They lived after their marriage in Ontario in Tawas Michigan area. Her father was Henry and we think her mom was Saphronia Van Slack
Margaret had a sister Jennie that married John's brother Jacob Bellinger and they too lived in the Tawas area. They had a sister Ettie, and then I know of a brother Abraham who lived around Pincomming Michigan area. My sister lived in his old home for a while.
If any of this is helpful post back. I have much more info. Bev

A brick wall...HELP!

My gr.gr.gr. grandfather was Nathan K. Acre/Acree (also spelled Aker in the 1830's). I know that he was a tin-smith and claimed to be born in VA around 1808(census records). I believe his father to be John Aker who settled in Pulaski County, KY. However, I have no proof. If anyone has ANY info on Nathan, it would be so greatly appreciated. I hit this wall 2 years ago and have yet to be able to get over it. I'm hoping that someone out there can help. Like I said, I know that Nathan was born in VA around 1808 and removed to Pulaski County, KY around 1830, married Frances J. Ridge in Pulaski, removed to Adair County, KY in the late 1830's and settled in Green County, KY in the 1840's. However, I have yet to find a connection to his parents or what became of him. Thanks!!

willacree@bellsouth.net

Hey Chuck. Nice hearing from you. Yes I do know those people. Betty Lou Aker and Donnie Thissen are my grandparents. John Thissen is my uncle. Betty Lou and Don had to other children. James Kenneth Thissen 1952, and Jeffrey Allen Thissen July 5, 1958. Jeffrey Allen Thissen is my father. He married my mother Debra Jean Parks (1955-) on June 16, 1979. I'd be glad to send you what I have on her family if you like. Her grandfather Augustus Jr changed the spelling to Aker to avoid and type of persecution he might get for being of German descent as the story goes. Well I'll talk to you later cuz.
Michael

William Acre d 1688 Lancaster Co VA

Lancaster VA will book 5, p 117:

WILLIAM ACRE; will written March 1688, proved April 15, 1688; will shows wife (name not mentioned), son William; daughter Katherine loaned to Mrs Ann Brown; daughter Elizabeth loaned to Walter Welch; Mary Southing (daughter?); brother & executor RANDOLPH MILLER.

Does anyone have any information on this family? The two girls who were "loaned" to other families were probably bound out for service.

My ancestor was RANDOLPH MILLER b abt 1650 who acted as executor and he married KATHERINE unknown. I suspect her last name was ACRE, and she was sister to this WILLIAM ACRE who died in 1688.

Comments appreciated!

A surety bond was made by Ephraim Acre (14/Jan/1814, for the marriage of David & Catherine. This info was sent by Fay Clark just this week. Maybe her brother? As to the dates, William Acre b. 1752, d. 1756, Catherine b. 1796, m.1814 David Mays/Maize. Where am I going wrong here? Hope to hear from you soon, and thanks again. Toni Maize

Hi. Received marriage bond for David Mays & Catherine Acre yesterday (thanks to my Gray cousin in Iowa) & consent signature on it was signed by Ephraim Acre. As marriage date was 1814, thought I'd look Ephraim up in 1880 census, fam search not ava, down for some reason. Anc.com has ended my membership early as I didn't renue. Do you happen to have 1880 census for Ephraim Mays? If so, would love to have it. Thanks, Toni Maize
