Hi Joanna
My name is Peter Acres. I live in Hampshire England. I have records of the Acres family in Roscrea going back to Adam Acres, George Acres & John Acres of Mill Farm Roscrea around 1800.
My father Geoffrey Charles acres was the youngest son of George Charles Johnstone Acres who was born In Ballybeg Nr Rosecrea in 1875 who was the son of George Acres ( no birthdate recorded) of Ballybeg the son of Thomas Acres (again no birtday recorded) who was the fouth son of George & Mary Acres described as a farmer of Mill Park Rosecrea. George died in 1819.
The records are fragmented but appear to stretch back to a Captain George Acres form Lancashire who fought in the wars in Ireland in 1576 - the College of Heralds granted him a Coat of Arms.
The first refernce to Acres living in Ireland is of a Richard Acres in 1691 who is recorded on the Freemason's Role in Dublin. From 1748 there a several refernces to Acres in Ireland and it would appera that Adam, George & JOHN acres had other family members in Ireland but it is difficult to prove a link.
I have some pictures of Ballybeg House and family memebers who regrettably are unamed. Some of the records were lost when they were loaned to John Acres Leighton from Brisbane (regrettably they were stolen from his car)
There appears to be a strong representation of the Acres family near Sydney. Regrettably, when my wife and I visited John Acres Leighton in 1979 he told me about their history but I failed to write down the details.
I hope this is of help to you.
i have a detailed family tree of the Acres family descending from George , John & Adam Acres c1800.
Best wishes
Peter Acres
