Re: Acuna - Chile to California

I don't know about Mexico to Chile. The information that I have says both Santiago and Valparaiso, Chile. I know his uncle Jacinto Acuna also came north and his naturalization clearly states that he was a native of Valparaiso, Chile. All the censuses say that Joseph was from Chile. We have several family letters written from Maria Luisa Acuna in Valparaiso, Chile to Joseph Rumaldo Acuna. Maria Luisa is Joseph's sister and she mentions two other sisters, Maria and Adela. Jacinto's wife is Josephina. Apparently Jacinto and Josephina were married in Chile prior to coming to California as Maria Luisa talks of her as if she knows her intimately. We do have one quirky letter from Maria del Socorro Contreras written to her son, Juan Acuna in Sacramento, Californi dated 1909. It was sent from Chilchota and the only Chilchota I can find is in Mexico. SO there may well be a Mexican link that I haven't yet found.

Does any of this sound like your family? I'm so anxious to know!!!

Looking for Acuña history

I'm trying to trace my Acuña family line but my entire family has run into a road block. As we know our history my ancestor Dario Acuña and one of his brothers left their family and ran south. We believe that they may have come from anywhere as south as Columbia or as far north as Mexico. Dario settled in Ecuador (where my family is from) however his brother continued to move on (it's believed further south) Dario and his siblings would have been born somewhere either in the late 1700's or early 1800's. The only other clue I have (which may be completely irrelevant) is that my name Francisco and my nick name Pancho seems to be a very predominant name in my line. From Dario's kids to me there has been a Francisco/Pancho in each generation. If any of this rings any bells or if anyone can help me out I'd be so happy to learn more about my family. Thanks

Hi, my name is William Acuna and I'm from Fresno, CA. My father is Guillermo (William) Acuna. He was born in Friant, CA, in 1924 to Mariano and Rosario Acuna. They returned to Mexicali just prior to the Great Depression (1929) and my father lived there until 1942 when he enlisted in the army. The rest of the family subsequently returned to the Fresno area. He's asleep right now, but I will ask him some questions tomorrow (Jan. 30, 2008). I'll try and get back to you. BTW, my grandparents hail from Sonora, Mexico.
William Acuna

My grandmother Maria Acuna was born 1865 in Baja CA. One of her brothers was Joaquin born 1864. Your grandfather Mauricio is either the son or the brother of Joaquin Acuna. I believe he is the son. Mauricio was born circa 1898 in Baja. I had only known of 3 sons born to Mauricio and Edelmira Moreno. They were Mauricio M., Ernesto, and Alberto Luis. These were all born in Tucson. Your grandfather had a second family but wife Josefina Alvarez and son and daughter all died early.
I am very interested in exchanging more information with you. Pls contact me.
Ruperto and Luz Acuna

In the 1880 census Ruperto and Luz Acuna reside in La Luz, Dona Ana, NM with one daughter Ambrosia Acuna b. 1878 in Sonora, Mexico. Through obits from other family members I have identified a brother for Ambrosia, Florencio Acuna b. 1882 in Tularosa, NM. Ambrosia went on to marry Rosalio Terrazas in 1896 and resided in Clifton, AZ. They had 3 children: Teresa (my grandmother) b. 1898, Rosalio b. 1897 and Lucia. Florencio married Antonia Marquez and had the following children: David b. 1902, Mariana b. 1904, Antonia b. and d. 1909, and Florencio Jr. b. 1910 and they resided in Clifton, AZ. Ambrosia passed away in the early 1900s and Rosalio re-married Constanza Grijalva and had 3 more children: Robert, Erlinda and Rosalio. Florencio died in 1909 and Antonia remarried Julian Bernal and had 7 more children: Roberto, Arturo, Manuel, Josefina, Carmen, Julia, and Tomas. My grandmother was adopted by Alberto and Luz Perea Sanches and moved to Santo Tomas, Dona Ana, NM where she met my grandfather Roberto Telles b. 1899. If any of this sounds familiar I have additional information, but right now I'm trying to find more information on Ruperto and Luz Acuna.

Acunas in Clifton, Arizona

I have run into a dead end finding information on my great grandmother from my maternal grandmother's side. My grandmother Teresa Terrazas Tellez b. 1898 in Clifton, Arizona was the daughter of Rosalio Terrazas b. 1877 and Ambrosia Acuna Terrazas b. 1878. I have a copy of their marriage record showing they got married May 11, 1896 in Clifton, Arizona. Ambrosia is the daughter of Ruperto Acuna b. 1845 and Luz Acuna (maiden name unknown) b. 1860. Ambrosia died young and her two children (one my grandmother) was placed in an orphanage in Clifton, Arizona when their father Rosalio remarried a Castancia Grijalva in Greenlee County, Arizona. The second child a 3 year old girl I don't even have a name for. Any leads would be much appreciated. I can be reached directly at mustacheusa@aol.com.

So glad to hear from you yes indeed it does seem we are quite an artistic bunch. I am very impressed with your story of your father what was the name of his hit record??? And I noticed he had a connection to San Francisco what a hoot! My siblings and myself are especially connected by the San Francisco lifestyle and culture I think it is genetic! My sister and brother are both very talented singer songwriters and my baby sister has her own band and performs extensively throughout the slutset Strip area here in Hollywood. My brother though a bit shy is the most talented silent poet in the world, such a shame! As for myself, well very often I fantasize and sometimes do live the carefree life of a freelance party clown. Anyway lets keep in touch who knows we may meet some day and share a tune!

Hi,
My father Sylvester Sammy Acuna was singer and song writter and had different groups along the way in his life long musical career. He had his very first group at the tender age of 14 years old and they were quite popular, and as he got older he has lived and toured from San Francisco to all around Europe with his groups and performing, he also knew alot of well know musical groups and stars, plus he also recorded a hit record on his own music label back in 1982, I can go and on about my father and his life long music career plus his could play just about any musical insterment, and it just all came naturally, and he has passed hois music genes to all of us kids too. And as for dancing my dad on the side in one of his side jobs was also a dance instructor, but we are all quick witted and a bunch of jokesters(Smile) If you want more information I live in California, and I can be reached at my email adress: Ramaam317@Yahoo.Com
Marie Acuna-Wells
I gathered very little information on the Grijalva name other than the initial identification as Rosalio's second wife. I got stumped at Ruperto Acuna and Luz? so I moved on to another line. I did find out that Luz Acuna's maiden name was Perea and she was the siter of Luz Perez Sanchez that adopted my grandmother after all. I was also told that Luz Acuna had a different first name and that her sister Luz Sanchez was actually the Luz of the family, but I haven't had any luck with that.
