The above Alexander Bruce of Stanehous and Airth
is noted in the book “BRUCES OF AIRTH”. (some notes below

16 Feb 1465-66. R.M.S. Lib. v. no.37. Charter to GILBERT KENNEDY, lord Kennedy,
of the lands of Glenstanchel in the earldom of Carrick and shire of Ayr,
which Marjory de Erth personally resigned at Doune in Mcnteith.

Alexander Bruce of the Stanehous and of Airth had numerous charters
from the Abbots of Holyrood and from James ii. and iii. and others,
from 1451 to 1468; the charter of James ii. (Appendix, pp. xxxiv., xxxii)
to him and his wife Janet, was confirmed to his grandson in 1489.
Alexander died ante 1487. (Appendix, p. xxiv)
He m.1stly (Appendix p. ivi.) Jonet, (dau of 1st Lord Livingston), no issue ;
m.2ndly, Margaret, (dau of Sir Malcolm Forester of Torwoodhead), six sons, viz. :

1. Sir John of Stanehous., killed 1483 in a feud during his father's lifetime.
.......by the Menteiths of Karse, his wife’s brothers.
2. Sir Alexander of Brigham and Earlshall.
3. Edward of Kinnaird.
4. Lucas of Cultmalundie, who m. Katherine Barbour, co-heiress of Cultmalundie
5. Robert of Auchenbowie and Bynning.
6. David, incorrectly called “of Kinnaird."

8 Oct 1488 Robert, the eldest son of Sir John Bruce, was served heir to his father.
At the time of his father's death he could not have been more than eleven years old,
or at his grandfather's more than sixteen, if, as is stated,
his parents were married in 1471. In 1488-89 he had a precept
for a certain sum in the Lord Treasurer's accounts " For biggin of his place of Ercht that was brynt"
before the battle of Sauchie by the forces of James, at that time the house of Keir was also burnt.
He was a knight, and probably the principal part of the present Castle of Airth was built by him after the burning.

Alexander Bruce of Stanehous was dead in 1487.
(It has since been proved by a birth brief in the possession of the Comte de Bruce
that Alexander was a legitimate son of Sir Robert Bruce, 3rd of Clackmannan.
