Hello ~ Do you know if your grandfather had a brother names Rafael Adames? They settled in New York city. They came to the US in the 1950s. One of the brothers was an artist. Most are still in the NY area. I am outside of Boston.

Re: Descendants of William Adams & Reid Family

I just read your post. I am trying to find info. concerning the Adams family from Albany New York. I know there was a father, by the name of John Quincy Adams, of Irish descent. I don't know if he was born in Ireland or in New York. I think his wife's name might have been Margaret. I do know that they had at least 4 sons; William Adams b.abt.1800, James Adams b. Dec. 1, 1801, Calvin Winslow Adams b. June 15, 1806 and Reuben Adams b. abt 1808. There is mention of a Catharine B. Adams death, May 17, 1842 in a family bible. There are differing reports of where these sons were born on the Canadian census. Some say Ireland and some say New York. Prior to 1830, the sons left Albany, New York and came to Malahide Township, Elgin County, Ontario, Canada. They remained here and are buried in the Aylmer Cemetery. James was a tailor upon his arrival but afterward bought 3 farms. All the sons owned one or more farms each in this area. Their names are often noted with Esquire on the census. I cannot find anything more about their parents in New York and there is no mention of them here. I did come across a John Adams who was born abt.1773 in Ireland and was a bank manager in New York and was buried in Astoria. I know that James Adams was very business oriented and loaned money to neighbouring people to buy land. His ledgers were quite detailed and he seemed to be the business person of the family. There is also mention of a William T. Adams as being an author and I have a copy of his book written in the mid 1800's but I don't know if he is one of the sons.
There just seems to be so little info. on any Irish Adams' from New York area and wondered if there is a connection between yours and mine.
Susan sj.graves@yahoo.ca
Israel Putnam Adams in Knox County Ohio

I'm trying to find the parents of Israel Putnam Adams who was born in Knox County Ohio 26 Feb 1844. I've seen several listings for his mother as Elizabeth Grubb and his father as William Adams. However, Elizabeth Grubb's headstone says that Elizabeth Grubb, wife of william Adams died in 1841 and Israel Adams wasn't born until 1844 according to his NARA Civil War pension application and his headstone in Greenville, TX. Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated. Lynne Adams Farr, lafarr@cox.net

Hi. My father Jorge came from the DR as a child. His father is Raphael Adames. His mother is Ana Josefa Vargas. They moved to NYC after moving here. Raphael Adames played in the band for El Presidente. I have an uncle, Raphael Adames, who lives in Connecticut. There are many Adameses in New York. Tell me about your family. I hear that all Adameses from the Caribbean are related.

I am a descendant of that family. I am the grandson of Juan Adames. I do believe that the family was not from the Canary Islands, though many puerto ricans are. I do believe the family came from either the province of Galicia or San Sebastian in El Pais Vasco. It would have a poetic sense I imagine to have the family emigrate from one San Sebastian to another.

Please let me know if you have any other information...

Thanks for the welcome! I certainly did not know that the name Adames came from France! Wow, I was told that the family originated in Galicia, province of Spain. I have also heard that the family was from San Sebastian in El Pais Vasco, also in Spain. Both of these are from north of Spain, so there is some "Frenchness" there I imagine. I do believe that Galicia and Ireland were very close culturally and ethnically. I wish I knew more about the family, and hopefully you and I can shed some light into our great family! I hope to hear from you or from other Adames' anywhere in the world. Yo tambien hablo español y con mucho gusto me comunicare con cualquier "familiar" en nuestro idioma natal.
