>> My ADAMO relatives are from a town in western Sicily called Calatafimi. Does anyone have relatives in that town?
I don't have any specific relatives from Calatafimi, but my relatives are from Santo Stefano Quisquina Sicily, also in western Sicily in the Agrigento province.

As I can figure, there are two major factions of Adamos in the U.S., one from the Naples area and one from Sicily. It's possible that Adamo's in your town of Calatafimi may be related -- but perhaps not -- to those in Santo Stefano.

Also, it is my understanding that Adamo is not particularly uncommon in Italy, i.e. it is more common there than it is in the U.S.

Re: Sicilian Adamos

There are Frank Adamos, and also a Jeff Adamo, in our family in the NY area, though it depends on how far back the Adamo name goes. You see, the Adamo name is an Amercan name. Our Sicilian surname is Scozzari.

Now for the Adamo's in the NY area, there is a Francisco Cacciatore Adamo Scozzari (or later known as Dr. Frank Hunter Adamo). Both Dr. Adamo in NY and my uncle, Frank Scozzari Adamo (borned Francisco Scozzari) changed their surname for all the family members from Scozzari to Adamo in the 1920s.

Anyway, Dr. Frank Hunter Adamo had a son, Jeff or Jefferson Davis Adamo, though I have no other information on that part of the family. I have a lot of information on Dr. Frank Hunter Adamo's sister's family whose name is Angelina.

I hope this helps a bit. Please feel free to contact me via email.

Regards,

Frank

I'm not certain if our families are related. Most of my Adamo side of the family settled in NY area and Florida. There may have been some relatives that moved to Chicago. Both my dad and his brother lived in Chicago, but eventually moved back to Tampa.

Why don't you check out my family tree at http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/a/d/a/Frank-S-Adamo/ind...

and see if you can find any common names. For sure if there is any connection to Scozzari, then we are related. BTW, there ar several Franks in our lineage.

Sorry, I do not have any information about your ancestor, but your message just caught my attention because, as you can see, I am a Vinciguerra too, and I was looking for information about my grandfather, who was an Adamo (known as Michael, though I don't know if that was his real name).

Michael? Adamo

I am trying to find information about my grandafather, known to my mother as Michael. He was a jeweler in New York, who died around 1929. He was married to Gasparina LoCascio, from Palermo. I know he was from Italy but do not know where, (though probably Sicily), or when he came to America. My mother was too young when he died, and doesn't remember if he had any family in the US, or if he mentioned any back in Italy.

Your mother is right. I'm not sure when the NY side changed their surname, but my uncle, Dr. Frank Scozzari Adamo changed the family name in 1920. The reason is still not clear, though I have my suspensions.

Back in Santo Stefano Quisquina, the Scozzari names end in Baio, i.e. First Name Scozzari Baio.
