Classification: Query
Surnames: Adams family - Williamsburg, VA 1700s
Ebenezer came to VA 1714 according to several mentions I have seen on him - he was recipient of several VA land grants in Henrico Co. and New Kent Co. He was b. abt 1693 England, d. 6/13/1735 New Kent VA. Married to Tabitha Cocke, d/o Richard Cocke, b. 1698 Shirley, Charles City Co VA d. New Kent Co VA.

Capt. Ebenezer Adams' parents were Richard Adams b. 1670 Albridge, Essex, Eng. d. Eng abt 1720. and Anne Unknown b. abt 1671.
Ebenezer and Tabitha had 8 or 9 children:

Richard b. 1719 Williamsburg died 9/1/1721.

Bowler b 4-9-1722 Williamsburg d. 11/26/1726 .

Thomas b 1730 Williamsburg d. 10/22/1788 marr 1755 to Elizabeth Fauntleroy b. 1730 Williamsburg d. 10/22/1788.

(Col.) Richard b.5/17/1726 Williamsburg d 8/2/1800 marr 4-10-1755 Richmond VA to Eliz. Griffin b. 3-17-1736 Richmond d. 12-12-1800 VA d/o Leroy Griffin and Mary Anne Bertrand - they had 12 children.

William b. 7/4/1724 Williamsburg VA.

Sarah marr. John Fry (b. 1737 Goochland Va) abt 1755 Williamsburg,

Anne marr Col. Francis Smith b abt 1727 - marr 1748 Williamsburg,

Tabitha b. 7/7/1728 Williamsburg.

I recall reading in some historical document that Ebenezer was a member of the VA House of Burgesses (Williamsburg, VA)

Jeremiah b 10/14/1776 Bedford VA was the son of Col. Richard Adams b. 1726 and Elizabeth Griffin b. 1736 Richmond Va. He marr. in 1812 VA to Eliz. Grigg/s b abt 1778 dau of burwell Grigg/s on 2/7/1798 Bedford VA. They had 12 children. One son b abt 1818 d. 1878 was named Griffin. Could this be the same as the Grief R. you mentioned or another son altogether? Of the 12 children, I still am missing 2 names.

My search is for the father and possibly the grandfather of Henry Dennis Adams b. 1847 Accomack Co VA. Family story has it (his wife the source) that either his father or grandfather or both were born in Williamsburg which takes me back to Ebenezer, Thomas b 1730, Richard b.1726 or William b. 1724 as my link. Finding the information to link this up to present day is my brick wall. Does anyone out there know about these early Adamses. I really am stuck and need some help. All inbound information welcome. I will share what I have. My sources are from gleanings at Mormon Church family records and still searching through 2000 Adams postings on this site.
