I do not know more information than you, but I am glad to meet cousins. My grandmother, Lena Addington Monroe, who lived in Oklahoma City for many years and died a few years ago, was Ted's sister. She loved Ted very much and always talked about her sadness after he died. Lena was born near Shamrock, Texas, moved to a Choctow Indian reservation after her father died, and then moved To Vera, Oklahoma near Tulsa.

Absolom Morgan Addington had a sister Sarah Jane b. abt 1834. A Sarah Jane Addington b. abt 1832,in Indiana, had a daughter, Melvina Addington, b. 1852 who married Mason Jaqua. In 1877 they left Rochester, Fulton Co.,IN and ended up in Michigan Bar. Mason's son, Rennie Lee, married a Bundock as did, I believe, Absolom Morgan Addington's son Charlie Boyd.
Do you have any information that might prove, or disprove a connection? Could Melvina Addington's mother also be Absolom Morgan Addington's sister?

ADDINGTON HISTORY? Grandfather John, GGF Henry

Could anyone please give me information on my line of Addingtons. My grandfather was John Addington. He was born in Fanin, Georgia in the late 1800's. His father was Henry Addington and he married Missouria Broglin in Georgia. I think his mother's last name was Chastain. I would also appreciate any information on Emily Missouria Broglin. If anyone is interested I will give you history on my grandfather John and my grandmother Josie Lonon and their kids. I know my line of Addingtons were in Georgia, moved to Arkansas then to Oklahoma for awhile and then back to Arkansas. Where did we come from originally? What were all the names and surnames? Thanks. Please post replys on the site but I would also appreciate an email directly to me at poet_yates@hotmail.com

Stephen Addington, 11/23/1828 > ?; NJ >CA

This gentleman, who was intimately associated with journalism in its early days in the county, was born at Orange, New Jersey, November 23, 1828. He spent his boyhood in Fishkill, New York, where he learned the trade of printer in the office of his father, who for half a century had been one of the leading publishers of that State. Stephen Addington worked here till 1855, when he started for California via the Nicaragua route. He almost at once took his place in journalism, buying out the “California Express,” published at Marysville, which he conducted for fourteen years. In 1870 he went to Colusa and became associated with W. S. Green and his brother, John C. Addington, in the publication of the Colusa “Sun.” He always took an active part in politics, was a firm Democrat and served on the Democratic Central Committee of the county. He continued in his newspaper work at Colusa till the summer of 1886, going to San Francisco, where he now resides. Mr. Addington was married, November 24, 1872, to Miss Lizzie Hart, of Colusa.

“Colusa County” – by Justus H. Rogers – Orland, CA – 1891 – pp 450-451

I bought a 1935 Evansville Journal Newspaper over ebay in hopes to find some of the Warrick County, Indiana families. I never imaged I would find some of my own family members. The Addington family at this time is my link. I may be able to find out later how the Addington family is linked to the Powell family. I have changed the format of the article to help group the people with the semicolons, other than that it is as it was originally printed. It was hard to read, so if I made errors I apologize. May

The Evansville Journal Monday August 5, 1935

Powell Family Reunion Held

More than 80 descendants of the deceased Mr. and Mrs. William Powell attended a family reunion Sunday at the old homestead in Warrick county.
Hi Bob. I am also a member of your family. My parents were Grady and Frankie (Addington) Montgomery. I am the youngest of their 10 children. I know bits and pieces about Will Addington and nothing about Sarah (my father's mother). Your dad was half brother to both my parents. I heard a lot about your father as I was growing up. I would like more info about both Will and Sarah. Whatever you have, I am very interested. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks so much.

Janna, I sent you a reply on one of your other messages, but just wanted to get in touch with you again. I think my mother (Frankie) sort of lost track of Clyde (he was known to us as Uncle Clydie) and just knew he had gone to California. I would certainly like to know more about him and also I am trying to do a family tree on mother's people and would like any info you may have on certain members. Please contact me. Thanks!

I would be interested in the information you have. I am related to the Addington's through my great great grandmother Nancy Kilgore who married Robert Erwin Collinsworth. Nancy's parents were John Kilgore and Cynthia Addington. Cynthia's father was Charles Cromwell Addington and Anne Doety or Doty. Charles Cromwell's parents were William Addington and Margaret Cromwell. I saw Cromwell and have been working on that ever since. Margaret Cromwell is in the same family tree as Oliver Cromwell Lord Portectorate of England during the time of Charles I. You can e-mail directly at collinsworth2003@yahoo.com

If she is looking for medical history and her father was in any branch of the service she can send away for her father's medical records while he was in the service. It can be inpatient and outpatient. It sounds like he is no longer around. All she has to do is go into the National Archive. She will need a social security number and the branch of the service he was in. It ask for the service number but can still do it with the social security number. If she has any questions she can e-mail me at collinsworth2003@yahoo.com

ABSALOM MORGAN ADDINGTON, IN >CA

Absalom Morgan Addington, a potter by trade, and at one time owner of the Michigan Bar pottery, was born in Wayne County, Indiana, September 28, 1824, his parents being Morgan and Jane (Mendenhall) Addington. His great-grandfather Addington was an English emigrant to Virginia in 1776, probably then in middle age. A great-grandmother, known in later life as Mrs. Townsend, whether his wife or not is not known, died in Wayne County, Indiana, in 1837, at the remarkable age of 104 years. A brother of the Virginia immigrant settled in the State of New York, and from these two it is thought the American Addingtons are descended. John Addington, the grandfather of the subject of this sketch, died in Wayne County, Indiana many years ago, aged sixty-four. The grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Absalom Mendenhall, of Fountain County, Indiana, were both about that age when they died. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Addington moved to Fountain County in 1830, and the father was a farmer there until his death in 1837. A. M. Addington began to learn the trade of potter in Green County, Wisconsin, in 1840, spending two years there. He afterward spent two years at a pottery in Fountain County, Indiana, going to school both winters. He then worked at his trade for six years at different points in the East. In 1850 he came to California and went to mining eight years. In 1859 J. W. Orr erected the Michigan Bar pottery, Mr. Addington helping to build and afterward working for him as potter. The works were moved to the present location at Orr’s clay-bank in 1862, Mr. Addington still remaining connected with the manufacture of the goods. He filed pre-emption papers to 160 acres. In 1865 he bought the land and pottery of Mr. Orr, and continued the manufacture until he sold out to the present proprietor, J. B. Williams, in 1884. He still works there, but his family residence is in Oakland. Mr. Addington was married in Knoxville, Illinois, in 1852, to Miss Martha Boyd, born in Ohio July 3, 1830, her parents being Robert and Jane (McKibben) Boyd, both deceased. The father was born in Kentucky, the son of a Scotchman, and the mother in Pennsylvania, of Scotch-Irish parentage. Mr. and Mrs. Addington are the parents of four living children, born in this State: David Morgan, February 9, 1853, now a physician at Upper Lake in Lake County, and the father of three children: their mother, before marriage was Miss Abbie Yates, being also a native of this State; Anna, born July 19, 1859, now Mrs. William Beaugner, of Oakland, has one child; Thomas M., born February 15, 1862, is now living in Felton, California; Charlie Boyd, born November 20, 1870, is learning the potter’s trade from his father.

Davis, Hon. Win. J., An Illustrated History of Sacramento County, California. Pages 487-488. Lewis Publishing Company. 1890.

James,
My husband's great grandfather was Zack Elisha Addington (b. 28 Mar 1877, d. 07 Mar 1960). His grandfather was Harry D. Addington (b. 1902, d. 1959). His father was Billy E. Addington (1938-2006).

Was Bert's (1911-1997) mom's name Emma (1876-??)?
Addington of St. Clair Co., MO

Aloha! I am trying to find where a child named Levi
(sometimes listed as Nelson) Addington belongs. He
suddenly shows up in my 5th gr.grandfather & 2nd
wife's household in the 1850 census for Distr. 79, St.
Clair Co., MO at aged 2, b: MO. Their names were
Francis & Elizabeth (Kincaide) McClain. I don't know
if this is Elizabeth maiden or prev. married name.
This child remains with Elizabeth and is listed in the
1860 census with her and household, and is listed in
the 1870 census with Hannah (McClain) Park(s)
household. Hannah being a daughter of Francis and
Elizabeth McClain.

Also listed in Distr. 79 is a James & Elizabeth
ADDINGTON family [1850] with children ages between
6-20, all but oldest (b: in OH) was listed born in MO.
According to the ages & birth locations of the younger
children, Levi would fit appropriately.

Any information on these families will be greatly appreciated.

Mahalo!
S. Viehweg
www.viehweg.org
