Mary Forbes Addis

I am trying to find the parentage of the husband of Mary Forbes. According to the Murphy-Sedwick Funeral Home records she was the wife of John Addis.
Addis, mary--w/o John Addis; b. Dec 8, 1867 Oh; d. mar 27 1905 Canton, Fulton Co., Il.; fa Abram Forbs b. Oh mo b. Oh. resident here 10 yrs.
I have a lot of Addis family but can't figure out which John this is. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I am a direct descendant and would love to have any information you want to share. I am especially interested in where the family came from. I have England, but there is a strong Irish family heritage. Also looking for information about a grandmother Salloney Hyde Addis. I can't find any record of her birth place.

Eva was born 1868 (m) 24 May 1884 in Noble Co. IN to Samuel E. Addis (b) 1857 (d) 1924 Noble co., IN both are buried at Christan Chapel Cem. Noble Co., IN Eva died 1924

both were killed in an car/train accident

I'm looking for information about my great-grandmother, Susanna Addis, who was born in about 1828 in Pennsylvania, and died in 1881 in Linn County, Kansas. She first married a Carlisle, and then later Edward Caldwell Roberson, my great-grandfather, on 19 May 1863 in Linn County, Kansas. I have been able to find absolutely nothing about her parents or other family members. Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a real newbie, but I just learned, today, that I am a descendant of that family line. Would be happy to share info. Have you any new info? Here's what I found today: Google has a free book of the History of the Hanging Rock Region which you can download immediately. It is in two parts. On page 994 (in the second part) is a great description of Freeman Addis, whose children include Benjamin and Barbara (my ancestor), as well as Isaac,
Thomas (born 1840), Barton, Mary, Lewis & Margaret. Freeman seems like a very interesting person, a Baptist minister and very active in the community. Because the Benjamin in my family was probably born some time around 1840, your Benjamin could be an uncle to mine (?). My Addis's are from Adams & Lawrence Counties.

Walter and Alvin Addis are my Uncles. Annie was my Grandma. My Mother was Neva Addis Merrifield. I also am new to this but it is so interesting. I have found three familys that branch off of the Addis line . I will try to give you more info. Neva JoAnn

The only Walter I know of was the brother of Alvin James Addis of Sayre, OK. He and Walter moved to Northern CA in the 30's. He was Walter E. Addis born 09/12/1901 Mother was Annie Nelson.

Daughter: Della Druzella Addis (b. 17 May 1880) who married Fletcher Walter McAdams (b. 18 Jul 1877).
Daughter: Vesta Viola McAdams (b. 16 May 1901) who married Lester Tiffin.
Della, Vesta & Lester all buried in Resthaven Cemetery, Briscoe Co., TX.
Vesta & Lester are my grandparents.

James Addis and Drusilla McKenzie lived in Decatur Co., KS in 1880 census. He was born 1845 Michigan. Drusilla is the sister of my husband's great-grandfather John. Have muc more info to exchange on this line.

I've been looking at Addis from the Dart(e) perspective. I've found some bits that might be helpful in your research.

"The History of New London, Connecticut" by Frances Manwaring Caulkins has a story about a WILLIAM ADDIS - (paraphrasing)-She says "Wm. Addis had been an early resident of Gloucester, MA" townsman in 1642 but no mention after 1649."
ADDIS has a grant in New London in 1658. In 1661, Gov. Winthrop ordered a court investigation of WM ADDIS based on a complaint of THOMAS REVEALL. It appeared ADDIS had been entrusted by REVEALL & Co. (from London) with a cargo of merchandise and 760 pounds sterling......
Basically, it says that ADDIS didn't have the money, etc. and ended up losing his property, etc. to Mr. REVEALL. (The story goes on from there...)
( Wm. Addis might have bought the home of Rev.BLINMAN, of the Cape Ann group who came to New London, CT from Gloucester, MA.)

I also found similar info about Wm. ADDIS in "The Ancestry of John TINKER" p. 421....(This also mentions Rev. BLINMAN who returned to England, later followed by his son, Jeremiah - says Jeremiah B. may fathered a child w/ TINKER'S widow.)

Ann m. 1: AMBROSE DART (of Boston) 24 Apr 1653; 1 child, WILLIAM DART, b. 01 Jan 1655 (?source info. will add later...)

Ann m. 2: BENJAMIN BREWSTER (grandson of "Elder Brewster") last day of Feb., 1659/60. They had 8 children.

My name is Gerald Addis, son of James Addis Jr., son of James Addis S. I am looking to trace our family as far back as I can. The problem is I have little info on my Great Grandfather, Walter Addis and after talking to me father I'm not even sure if Walter is his given name or if he has a middle name. He could be my great great great grandfather... I know my great great grandfather, John Addis's father moved to the Walhalla, Union county, S.C. area and fought in the civil war.

My Addis family roots go into Walhalla, South Carolina. Check my post. My great grandfather was William Walter Addis and his father was John Addis and He was married to a Mary Ann Abbot(not sure of the spelling). They say that Mary Ann's father had a town in South Carolina named after him. I'm not to sure of the dates right now. I have some new info about my family. Walter had a middle name and it was William. His fathers name was John Addis and he married MaryAnn Abbot(not sure of the spelling). John lived in Walhalla, South Carolina. John and MaryAnn had three sons and several daughters. Thier sons names were Walter(my great grandfather), James or Jim( who Walter named my grandfather after) and Grover. John's son James died in his teen years so there's not much about him. Walter had a falling out with his father John and Walter moved to the Atlanta area where he later married and had James Sr. I also found out that MaryAnn's father had a town in South Carolina named after him but I can't seem to find it on a map. This is all I know as of now...

Ed Golden, my great grand father worked for Creighton Addis. His uncle was Dr. Stephen C Golden. Ed later on had a son he named Creighton Earl Golden (my grandfather). Shoot me a e-mail if you wish to correspond on this.

I am researching the line of John B. Addis, b. 26 Mar 1808, Pennsylvania, and was married to Eveline Tidd, b. 1813 (?), also in Pennsylvania. They were married in Monroe Co, OH in 1832, and i believe had a son, George Washington Addis b.1833.
They died in Noble Co., IN. I am hoping to verify this information, and find any information about John B. and Eveline's parents.

Abram Addis

I am trying to find info about my great great grandfather Abram Addis. It has always been said that his wife's name was Gertrude Ann "Adams". I am wondering where the Adams came from. I can find her in the census only after she married Abram. She stated in the census that she was born in NY. It is assumed I think that she was born in Granit in the Town of Rochester. The problem is that I have been through all the early censuses and I cannot find her. I cannot find any Gertrude Adams or even an Ann Adams.

If anyone knows where the "Adams" name came from and why we are all assuming tht this was Gertrude's last name...please contact me.

Is anyone familiar with Barton Addis? He served in Wisconsin as a Freewill Baptist minister. I am President of the Wisconsin Freewill Baptist Historical Society and am trying to find descendants of deceased ministers, like I am, in the hopes of learning more about these people as well as possible orchestrating a “reunion” of the descendants of these ministers in 2008. Myrtles's maiden name was Myrtle Flora Betzner b. 9 Feb 1881 to William Henry & Lavina Jane (Essig)Betzner. They were marr. 9 Feb 1901 but I do not know what county, poss. Noble or Whitley.

Doesn't seem to be much Addis activity in the UK on this board, so thought I would start a thread!

Our Addis relatives were in Shropshire back to the birth of Thomas ADDIS in Mainstone, Shropshire, 1789. His father, John ADDIS was born in Bridstow, Herefordshire in 1767. His mother was Elizabeth GWILT. (There is a possibility of a second marriage to Hannah PEARCE (if Nicki reads this, then please reply as your email addy bounced when I tried to reply!)
I can only get back a further two generations from there and would love to be able to get back further.
John's parents: Richard ADDIS(c 1733 Little Birch, Herefordshire)and Betty POWELL. Richard's parents: Philip ADDIS and Elizabeth WILCOX (1705 Little Birch, Herefordshire)

I am sorry to take so long getting in touch with you about the Addis and Golden family. When I first started checking on my great grand father Creighton Addis and his wife Nancy Ellen Roberts I could not figure out the connection with the Golden family.

I have been to where my family is buried but I cannot seem to find out anything about Nancy Ellen's family. Do you know anything about her parents?
