Adriana, Thanks for that. I will send that to the Adie Family that I know. Do you have all of Neil and Emma's children? I only have Elwood and Eva's family. James and Family, Francis, John and Thomas. Do you need anything? The most interesting person is Eva's Father, Jame A. McHugh. He was in the Spanish-American War and was involved with the pursuit of "Pancho Villa" in Cuba and Mexico in 1916,17 and was with "Black Jack Pershing". More if you need it.

Hi Brian,

I have a lot on my tree, I am not quite sure how we can look at each other's trees. Here is some of the info you requested.

Neil Jamieson Adie's parents were Thomas Mountford Adie
Born 6/9/1815 and died 2/5/1884 in Stapness,Walls,SHI,SCT.

Married to Wilhelmina Jamieson born 11/18/1814 in Lerwick,SHI,SCT and died 1/29/1890 in Standishgate,Wigan,LAN,ENG.

Thomas' parents were John Adie born 5/23/1782 in Greyfriars,Edinburgh,MLN,SCT and died 1/29/1845 in Penicuik,MLN,SCT.

Married to Mary Ann Weatherall
Born about 1785 in Whitby,YKS,ENG and died 1/2/1861 in Lerwick,SHI,SCT.

I have those ancestry hint leaves attached to many of these people but have not had a lot of time to research further.

You mentioned Emma Augusta Farris, I have her parents as Levi J. Farris born 1839 in Maine and Lydia Parson born 1840 in Maine.

Hope this helps.

Adriana

I was wondering if you have any source material about DAVID ADIE, such as letters, diaries, memoirs, which you might be willing for me to look at. In exchange, I'd be happy to send your way anything I dig up about him.
William Adie - Margaret Grant

Seeking information on Margaret Grant (b. abt 1851 - probably St Nicholas, Aberdeenshire, Scotland d. 12/20/1868 Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland), the mother of William Adie's (b. 11/25/1843 Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland d. 2/21/1930 Cleveland, Ohio USA) first child, my gr-grandfather William Grant Adie (b. 12/16/1868 Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, d. 3/11/1930 Cleveland, Ohio USA).

William Adie was a ship's carpenter, and Margaret Grant was the daughter of ship's master Alexander Grant.

William and Margaret were not married. Several of my gr-grandfather's children did their best to hide this - going so far as to list my gr-grandfather's mother as 'Unknown' on his death certificate.

Margaret died at the age of 17 of Puerperal Fever (childbed fever), four days after giving birth to my gr-grandfather William Grant Adie, the illegitimate son of William Adie.

William Grant Adie was raised by his father's mother Christian Adie. She also was not married to her son's father - one of her first cousins, Alexander Adie. For unknown reasons she did not raise her son - he was raised by Alexander's parents.

About 10 years after Margaret Grant's death, William Adie married Helen Henderson, a first cousin of Margaret Grant.

I suspect Margaret Grant may have been betrothed to William Adie - and she may have learned she was pregnant and given birth while he was away on one of his 7 around the world voyages. If the circumstances had been something else - and William was a cad - I don't think he would have been given permission to marry Margaret's cousin.

William Adie Ship's Carpenter Peterhead Aberdeenshire, Cleveland Ohio

Seeking additional information on gr-gr grandfather William Adie's career as a ship's carpenter. (b. 11/25/1843 Peterhead,Aberdeenshire, Scotland d. 2/21/1930 Cleveland, Ohio USA)

I have been unable to find information on his apprenticeship or career while sailing out of Scotland. (I believe he sailed out of Peterhead.)

According to granddaugter Dorothy Hutchison, William made seven around-the-world voyages in wooden sailing ships in the mid 1800's. Each voyage lasted a year around the cape and horn of Africa. He also made inumerable shorter voyages.

September 1887, William immigrated to America to work in the Cleveland, Ohio shipyards. He retired in the early 1900's, only to return to work in the shipyards during WWI, making wooden ships for the war effort.

My family tree is on rootsweb.com - here is the url to William's entry: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

I hope you are still researching and find my message!!
I believe I may be related to the family you are talking about.
I have a Andrew Adie marrying a Margaret Barrie in the 1830's.

I would like more information on Popsie Yvette Adie, born about 1931, Perth, Western Australia, died 29 July 1980 and her possible husband, Dennis Henry Adie, born about 1930, died 9 April 1984 and their possible son, Terry Denis Adie, born about 1954, died 15 Sept. 1971.
I believe Popsie Yvette's maiden name could be McDonald. She would be the daughter of Robert Leslie Graham McDonald, born 1895, Yorkshire, England. I would like to verify this information as I would like to contact the family as I am related.

Margaret had my great, great grandfather, James Sandy in 1820 in Alyth. All this was gleaned from the Parish Registers from Alyth. Now, I would like to know more about Alexander Bayne. I have more information on their mother, Agnes (Adie) Nicol, but I'm trying to locate information on Alexander. Was he born in Edinburgh? Agnes Adie was born in Dysart, Fife, Scotland to John Adie and Rebekah Forker.

baron of adie, early 14th century. last witch to die in scotland was lilias adie of torryburn, fife. early seventeenth map of fife and clackmananshire shows a village called adie. i have visited and it's name has evolved to aldie. check out the annals of dunfermline where many adies held high positions in the royal burgh. robert adie buried in dunfermline abbey. however it is my strong belief that adies originally came from norway because there was an adie clan in orkney. If you would like to know more about fife adies(and there are many of us) just drop me a note.
