Hi Mike,
If I have written to you before, please let me know. I was an Adkin. My father was John Edward Thomas Adkin b 1902. His father was John Joseph Adkin - who disappeared leaving his wife Teresa to cope with 5 children. John Joseph's father was also John Joseph Adkin married to Emily Alice Adkin(nee Simmonds). This John Joseph was a bootmaker born in Shoreditch and they moved to Easten Avenue, Ilford. Do you think that there is any connection???? I can't think how I have missed your message?????

Sorry to say that I don't know any other Margarets-other than myself=re ADKIN. All of my relatives seem to come from the east end of London, other than an Edward who was born in Clare, Suffolk circa 1787. If my e-mail comes up for you , you can let me have yours, because I am just beginning this search for my ancestors and there are a lot of blank spaces on my family chart,

Hi,
Frederick Adkin also features in my family tree. Which one are you referring to ??The one born 1828 or Fredk born 1858 or one born 1888 because they are all from the same family and most of them were born and bred in the east end of London. and yes there were bookmakers amongst them, having offices in the east end of London. I have only just started to research the family....I too am (or was) an Adkin. My father's grandfather John Joseph Adkin was a bootmaker too.

I am looking for decendents of Joesph Corbin & Nancy Adkins, they have 2 girls Charlotte and Annie born in Union Twp ,Belmont county Ohio Moved to Perry, Woodson twp Kansas,listed in the 1880 census there,but can not find them anywhere else. Any help would be appreciated

I think the name Adkin does appear to originate from the north of England, there are very few in the south.
It is also quite a common name in the USA especially in Southern States.

that has AdkinAtkinson in it.Interested to
know if there are connections.I have older
brother who was adopted and his name was Adkin.
My neices and nephews have always wondered if
there was a connection.There are similarities.

Glenn found his mother in States but it was not
a good connection.Not sure if she died shortly thereafter.
He received no information whatsoever.My nieces and
nephew have always wondered if we were related
somehow.We will maybe just be satisfied with
being related as family for all these years!

Hi: I am slow! He was Adkin coming into the adoption.I have since learned his mother was a Smith from Blenheim here in Ontario.The father has to have been from here in Ontario as well.Last it seems it was heard he was in NEw York though.I don't know if they just gave Glenn his fathers name.I always thought his mum was Adkin they usually just give the child the mum's name back then but she was a Smith.Puzzle to me.Hope to reslove it someday. Hello: Time for a new posting.My brother has passed away but his kids would really like to find out about their roots.The adoption was in Chatham,Ontario.Can.His mother's last name Adkin.I know she had other family not sure how many.The adoption took place early 40's 42-43? I am reasonbly sure she was from this area at that time as my Aunt was in Children's Aid and was strong in his adoption as with others.If their is one of the others searching for siblings or relatives of siblings or anything rings a bell please contact me. My grandfather was Frederick William Adkin, Walthemstow/Woodford area, worked as a bookie. His father, John, worked in the brickmaking trade in the early 1900s. I think I remember my Grandmother telling me that his father (my great great grandfather) was a bootmaker from Bethnal Green.

Any connections with any other London Adkins?

My great grandmother's name was Margaret Thomas (formerly Adkin). Do you know of any Margaret's in your family (other than you!)? I have placed her in 1909 at Middlesborough, UK but do not know where she came from.

I just came across this site and noticed you said that you could not find many Adkin's in UK.
My father was John Adkin and had a brother Arthur and sisters Rose Ivy and Violet. There mother died when they were very young and their father abandoned them very early on in their lives and they had to go into care all except my father who at the age of 13 went into the Merchant Navy. If there are any Adkin's out there who think they may know My great grandfather i would love to see you message.

Just browsing the geneology sites. Saw your mail. We are from Portsmouth UK. Not many Adkin's in the phone books here. Just one in Portsmouth which is my dad's.1 in the Swindon Wiltshire area which is where we live at the moment. My dad was born in North London I think but will check. Loads more Adkin in the States!!!

We watched a tv programme on Jamestown, Virginia last week. Saw a place called Adkin Store and becane fascinated! Can anyone tell us anything about the place, or if it was named after immigrant's from the UK or is it a common American name?
