Henry Osteen Adkison is a brother to my great-grandfather. These do not appear to be the same people as I've been in touch with family that has more information on them since I didn't know them.

YORK, AL: Former Mansfield, Ohio resident Annette (Boo) Adkison-Ewing, 43, of York, Alabama, succumbed to the will of our Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the University Hospital of Alabama after a brief illness.

Annette was born on April 23, 1967 to the late William (Willie) Adkison and Elizabeth Marsh-Adkison. She worked as a Food Administer at the Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS.

She was a 1986 graduate of the Mansfield Senior High School. Annette was a loving and caring wife and mother. Also a member of the Progressive Church of Jesus Christ in York, AL.

Left to cherish her memory, her husband of 23 years, Willie Ewing, Sr.; son, Willie Ewing, Jr.; daughter, Annette Ewing all of York, AL; mother, Elizabeth Marsh-Adkison of Mansfield; two brothers, Donald and Maurice Adkison, both of Mansfield; two sisters, Stephanie Harris of Columbus, Ohio, Stephanie Grinder of Mansfield; grandmother, Lizzie Mae Marsh of Mansfield; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special cousins, relatives; and a special friend, Darlene Henfield.

She was preceded in death by her father, William (Willie) Adkison; grandfathers, Willie Marsh, Sr., and Lincoln Adkison, Sr.; grandmother, Claudia Adkison; four uncles; one great uncle; one aunt; also two cousins, Jacqueline Marsh and Don Favers.

Homegoing services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Progressive Church of Jesus Christ in York, AL.

The family has entrusted arrangements to the McInnis Mortuary Serivces in Livingston, AL.

Just a thought - you ask for William Henry or Henry Osteen Adkison-- there is a significant possibility that he is one of the many in this family line of that era who have multiple given names. Some of my line even had 4 given names, and yet generally only used the second or second and third given name in their wills, on census, etc.

You may find that his name is William Henry Osteen Adkison.

Often it is not possible to learn what all of the given names are. It makes record searches even more problematic because they didn't necessarily always list the same given name set across all the records that actually were theirs.

MANSFIELD, OHIO: William Henry Adkison, 66, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 28, 2010.

William was born February 22, 1943 to Lincoln Adkison, Sr. and Claudia (Middlebrook) Adkison. William was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for Conrail as a trackman and Ohio Brass.

He is survived by two daughters, Annette (Willie) Ewing from York, Alabama, Stephanie Ginder from Mansfield; two sons, Donald (Jeanette) Adkison from Mansfield, and Maurice Adkison from Mansfield; four grandchildren; brothers, Richard Adkison, Robert Adkison from Mansfield; sister, Helen Johnson; host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by father, Lincoln Adkison, Sr.; mother, Claudia Adkison; brother, Lincoln Adkison, Jr.; sister, Inez Favers; special friend, Susan Ginder.

The services will be held today, May 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at Greater St. John Oasis Of Love Church, 190 Chester Ave., with the Elder Willie Ewing officiating.

Private buriul will be at a later date in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. The family will be receiving relatives and friends in the home of his son, Donald Adkison, 718 Greenfield Dr. The has entrusted arrangements with the R.A. Prince Funeral Services.

Mary Shawn Brown Adkison, 38, Keithsburg, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at her home.

Services are at Keithsburg Christian Church. The Rev. Charles Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be at Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg.

Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, Ill., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Adkison was born June 19, 1965, in Moline, Ill., the daughter of James C. and Mary E. Hasson Brown. She married David J. Adkison Oct. 14, 2000, in Keithsburg.

She graduated from Westmer High School.

She was most recently employed as a nurse's aid at Aledo Health and Rehab Center. She was formerly employed at Casey's, Keithsburg, and was a waitress and bartender at the Lighthouse Restaurant, Keithsburg.

She enjoyed shopping, swimming and collecting Beanie Babies.

Survived include her husband; a son, Carl Nash of Keithsburg; a daughter, Ginger Nash of Keithsburg; her parents, James and Mary Brown of Keithsburg; two sisters, her twin Marie Casey and husband, William, of Roscoe, Ill., and Rebecca Sampson of Sherrard, Ill.; two brothers, James Daniel Brown and wife, Deanna, of Aledo and Dustin Brown and wife, Jessica, of Orion, Ill.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dudley Brown.

ROBERT D. ADKISON IS NOW IN ENGLAND
MR. and MRS. JOHN ADKISON have received a V-mail letter from their son, Staff Sergeant Robert D. Adkison, stating that he has arrived safely in England.
The letter was dated Feburary 7, and was recieved in New York February 15.
Sergeant Adkins has made three successful trips across the atlanti since being inducted into the Army in april, 1941. He is a member of the USMP.

James 'Richard' Adkison

Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, New Hope United Methodist Church, Muscatine. There will be no visitation.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - James (Richard) Adkison, 75, Muscatine died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

The Rev. Richard Sebeniecher of the New Hope United Methodist Church will officiate services. Burial will be in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

James Richard Adkison was born on Aug. 28, 1931, in Muscatine, the son of James William and Mildred E. (Dusenberry) Adkison. He married Ruth Chapman Dec. 9, 1956, in Muscatine. He worked at Roach and Musser and then worked for Young Brothers Steel Stamp Works Inc., retiring in 1993.

He attended the New Hope United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting and restoring old cars.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Ruth, of Muscatine; two sons, Jerry L, Adkison and friend, Michelle Haller of Muscatine and David Adkison and friend Sylvia Snyder of Keithsburg, Ill.; one daughter, Sherry L. Brown and her husband, Jerry of Muscatine; one brother, Frank Adkison and wife, Patsy, of Muscatine; one sister, Betty Kemper, of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Tammy Mydland and her husband, Gary, of Lynden, Wash., Rick Brown and friend, Francine Clark, of Olathe, Kan. and Terry Brown, also of Olathe, Kan.; three step- grandchildren, Carl and Ginger Nash of Keithsburg, Ill. and Tessa Evans of Muscatine; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Adam Mydland and Michelle Clark and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ollie Stachar and one sister, Evelyn Babcock.
Note I went to school with his wife.

I am looking for Daniel Adkison who was married to Francis who was called "Bama" I know my family came from Alabama and moved to Florida in the late 1800's or early 1900's. I believe Daniel was born in 1862. I believe Bama was born in 1861. They had a son, William Henry or Henry Osteen. Any info confirming this would be very helpful in my search.

Hello, I haven't seen an Adkison query in such a long time and my Adkison's have been my brick wall forever. Perhaps we can help each other? I have only been able to go back to January of 1860 when my James William Adkison was born in either TN or MO (conflicting stories from my grandpa and my great-aunts). I have searched for his parents and/or siblings for 20 years. His nickname was "Billy", he was living in Arkansas when he married Mary Elisabeth Howell on 7 January 1883 in Crawford County. Mary Elisabeth, nicknamed "Bettie", was born abt 1864 in Mo.
They had 3 children before Bettie died in 1896.
They were: Stella Adkison, b 25 May 1884
James Henry Adkison, b 25 Sept 1888
and Helen Adkison, B Dec 1892
a cousin, Troy Barnes Matthews, was living with them in the 1900 Cherokee Nation Census and all the children shared a grandmother, Sarah (or Serepta) Matthews.
Most of the Adkisons, Howells and Matthews have remained and lived in and around Ft. Smith, AR and eastern Oklahoma.
James William died 12 January 1912 in Red Oak - buried in Sequoyah Co., OK.
James Henry was my grandpa. He and my grandmother and their 6 children moved to Hobart, OK in 1925. He died in Duncan, Oklahoma in 1987 and is buried in Hobart,Oklahoma.

Platteville; was born in Warren Co., Ky., March 5, 1819; emigrated to Jackson Co., Ind., then to Fulton Co., Ill., then in 1860 to Wisconsin; now owns 80 acres of fine land well improved, and owns what he has by his own industry. He learned the trade of miller in Ellisville, Fulton Co., Ill. His wife, Sarah J. Horn, who was born at Cleveland, Ohio, July 20, 1830; married May 6, 1846, in Jo Davies Co., Ill.; they have six children - Leonard, Norman, Hulan, Alma, Cora, Mary. Ray was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Lamesa and was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1981, after delivering the mail in Fort Worth for 35 years. He served on the board of directors of the Fort Worth Postal Credit Union for 30 years. Ray met and married his sweetheart, Evelyn Turner, who became his true love through 56 years of marriage. He was a faithful husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a faithful Christian and a member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served as deacon and chairman of the deacon body. He began teaching Sunday school when he was a boy in the junior department and continued teaching Sunday school for the next 56 years.

I am searching for the family of Hampton Peter Adkison, b. 1817 in IL (probably Gallatin Co.). Was living in Saline Co. at the time of the 1850 Census (Hampton AdkiNson).

His father was John C. Adkinson, living next door to him in 1850. Hampton married Elizabeth Shults/Schultz abt 1841 in IL. Moved to Desha Co., AR before 1860 and to Bosque Co., TX after 1870 and before 1880.

I have a Duncan Adkison listed as the son of Britton T Adkison Sr. and Sarah Beasley and the brother of Britton T. Adkison Jr, my GGGrandfather. Duncan was born June 5, 1815, died Nov 3, 1908. He was married to Elizabeth Lindsey abt 1837, who was born 1817; died 1885. They had 8 children, Susan B.1839; John B. abt 1840; Sarah B. abt 1842; James B. abt 1844; Amanda B. ?; Mary B. abt 1847; Thomas B. abt 1848; and Fanny B. ?. He married Sarah "Sallie" Beasley abt 1868, born abt 1849. They had 5 children, Daniel B. abt 1869; Jesse B. abt 1871; Thomas B. abt 1872; Joseph B. abt 1873; and Samuel B. abt 1878. I received this information from Gordon Adkison who has done extensive research on the Adkison Family and can give you much more information.
