Thanks Barb, I have just heard from some others about this question and now that I feel certain that this is my family I am looking for guidance to acquire the documentation I need, then I can start sorting out all those Williamses! The name I have now is "Tressie" Matilda Adkisson, she was my ggrandmother , my grandfather was Edward Martin Williams
I would love to know where the unusual name "Tressie" came frome, I
had assumed that 'Til was from Matilda and I knew her initials were T.M.but was surprised by Tressie! I would also like to know what happened to her eldest children and who their father was and and and...
I welcome info from anyone with interest. Thanks, Bev

If you have any male Adkisson's it would be a good idea to do the test.

Judy Adkisson

My grandfathers younger brother was John F. Adkisson. I honestly don't know who he married but apparently it wasn't Pearl.

John F. Adkisson's parents were John W. Adkisson and Allie Johnson. Jno. Wesley Adkisson was born in Missouri in 1841 and died in Tx in 1903. Allie Johnson Adkisson was born in Missouri 1842 and died in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1892. Jno. Wesley Adkisson remarried that same year to Mary Ann Jones.

John F. Adkisson was born 1882 in Meridian, Lauderdale, Mississippi. John served in the Texas Volunteer Guard around 1903. John F. was known to be in Arkansas at this same time (in Quachita).

I have been told that there are two lines of Adkisson's in the US (one out of ARKANSAS AND ONE OUT OF TENNESSEE) and at some point the two lines merged and I wonder IF John F. Adkisson was the one that perhaps married into the Arkansas line - just a thought.

If anyone can help me find more information amount John F. after 1903 I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks,

ARKANSAS - looking for J. F. ADKISSON

Please help me. I may have been looking in all the wrong places for information on J. F. Adkisson.

My mother's uncle, John F. Adkisson was born in 1882 in Mississippi. This information comes from an Oath when he joined the Texas Volunteer Guard in January 1900 and his home was shown as Blooming Grove, Texas.

He appears in the 1900 Navarro County, Texas Census with his dad and step mother. His dad was John Wesley Adkisson, a Methodist-Episcopal educator.

I cannot locate any information on J.F. Adkisson after he signed an Affidavit dated October 22, 1901. He signed an Affidavit related to items stolen from him and filed as Loss of Quartermaster's Supplies IN ARKANSAS. Not Texas. Arkansas. The top of the Affidavit was printed THE STATE OF TEXAS (Texas has been marked out and Arkansas was written in), County of Quachita. No. 65.

I don't know why he was in Arkansas as a member of the Texas Volunteer Guard, BUT, I now wonder if perhaps he met a lady in Arkansas and returned to her in Arkansas when he left the Texas Volunteer Guard no later than 1903.

Would you please check your records and see if you can place him in the Arkansas Adkisson line?
***********************************************************************
FYI: John F. Adkisson's grandfather was Walker Adkisson

1850 Saline County, MO Census Page 48

Walker Adkisson	not listed (husband)
Ann Adkisson	age 46 (wife)
William Adkisson	age 25
Salinda age 24
Cornelia age 2
Warren age 23
Sarah age 21
Mary A. age 19
Milton age 17
Elizabeth J.	age 15
John Wesley	age 9 (J. Mrs. J. W. Adkisson, Linguarum Baccalaurea - Adjunct In Language Department

1900 census for Navarro County, Precinct #5, Blooming Grove, Texas #299 shows John W. Adkisson, age 58, born in Missouri, Clergyman, wife Mary age 43, born ?, John F. age 17, born in Mississippi, day laborer. John and Mary have been married 8 years and have no living children so she is his second wife (maybe 3rd) and not the mother of John F. Adkisson)

1903 Church Records show her as a widow living in Waxahachie, I believe. I will have to look this up to be certain of the town.

This is where my trail to her and John Frost Adkisson, her stepson ends. Since she raised him from the approximate age of 10 or 11, I am assuming that they stayed close to each other since she had no other children that I am aware of.

John F. Adkisson was in the Texas Volunteer Guard from 1900 to at least 1903 and that’s where my trail for him ends. Everything seems to end at the time of John W. Adkisson’s death.

Does any of this help you in your search? Hope so. Let me know.
Yes thank you. I had the basics but not any dates. and i didn't have the last child. But what i have been trying to connect is the two Chappell boys living with William in 1880.
Elizabeth Heister had a sister who married a William chappell and the sister was living with them in 1870 with the kids but then she must have died and William Adkisson must have adopted the two boys because he calls them his sons.
and yes Rebecca and Elisabeth were sisters. their father was Joseph heister and mother Mary But i can't find any other mention of the Chappell boys listed with this family. and i think the J. Chappell is my husbands ggrandfather but just can't prove it. But Thanks for what you sent.
Do you by any chance have any info on a William T. Atkisson/adkisson who married an Emma Kate Bryant and had two sons name Eurick Bryant Atkisson and James William Atkisson/adkisson. Emma was the sister to Alice Bryant who married James Chappell maybe if i could find this William T. who died before 1900 that might lead me to the right connection. thanks again, Sue

I have a marriage certificate for Francis E. James, who I believe to be your Pearl's older sister. The certificate come from Washita County, Oklahoma dated 1899. On the certificate she gives her mother's maiden name as Quillyard. Her mother went by Lula. I also have in my possession a number of original letters from Lula to my Marion Francis Alley. I would appreciate any information you may have about the James family because my Francis (Fanny) ran away from her husband, Marion Francis Alley taking my grandmother, Bessie with her. I also can find nothing relating to the name Quillyard.

Her father was a JOHN Adkisson, an immigrant from England, and her mother's name was ELIZABETH.

Rosanna married William Prather, probably on 29 May 1783 in Bedford, VA, and it is likely that all four of her children were born there. I have lots of information on her descendents (loads of Prather data), but I hate to leave her Adkisson roots so short. Rosanna Adkisson Prather died in 1828 in/near Hardinsburg, Breckinridge, KY.

Her father, John, had a brother PLEASANT born in 1831 also in England. I believe he also immigrated to American and has many descendents here. But it is the ancestors in England I'm searching for. Any help (even hints and fuzzy clues!) would be greatly appreciated.

Carolyn Moore; Tigard, OR
