Louis Adler was born in 1824. He died in Newark,NJ in 1887. He met his wife Fannie on board ship. She may have left a French Convent school. Rumour hs it that he traveled with his valet. In the USA he was a cigar maker. He was the second president of Temple B'nai Jeshurun, Newark,NJ founded in 1848. It was a German speaking congregation so I assume he may have emigrated from the Alsation area. His daughter Clara married Lewis Gotthainer, a merchant in Orange,NJ. He was a founder and first president of Temple Sharey Tefilo in East Orange,NJ. I have no idea where either Louis Adler or Louis Gotthainer's families may have originated. Any help out there?
