How is your research coming? You may want to visit a site called www.findagrave.com and search for your ADMIRE family there. It has been very helpful in my Eitniear family research. I believe these two families are related but haven't proved that yet.

It has been misunderstood....I do not have any documented proof that these families are indeed related. It has been suggested by some researchers. They have put together as I research the surname I keep coming up with both families in census data, etc.

Will you send me an email and we can go from there, cm-heidi@comcast.net also whereabouts you live as there are family reunions.

Heidi

I'm trying to fine an obit for Dr. Oliver R. Admire, b. abt 1827 KY, died 7/17/1875. I've seen a picture of a tombstone which is supposed to be his. The picture is fron Iron's Cemetery in Hendricks Co, Indiana.

My goal is to find something that will tie him in to Eady Admire Zook, his sister.

I have been unable to find documentation that proves Eady is the daughter of Jacob and Susan Admire. I thought if I can find Oliver's obit, it might have her name in it. This is all I need to complete my DAR application.

Thanks in advance!
Donna

Judi,
I'd have to get check my copy of the case but as I remember it I could not tell from the case whether she was alive or not. She was not mentioned in George Admire's will of July 1804, which could mean she had died. However in Sep 1803 George Admire sued Peter Lock "in detinue" for detaining negro slave, Feboe. Jury found for the defendant Feb 1804. We believe this Peter Lock was Sarah's son.
Rubyann

Dana,

Are you a Lock researcher? Do you have any information about Sarah's children other than their baptism records in the Dutch Reformed Church? If so, I would like to correspond with you offline. I am trying to link 4 Lock men (Samuel, Peter, William, and Benjamin) that I have been following through KY and IN to Sarah.
Rubyann,

Thank you for sharing the item about Peter Lock. I was not previously aware of it. Are you aware that Sarah was dismissed from the Eighteen Mile Baptist Church for allegedly taking George's property without his permission? Perhaps this is somehow related to the Peter Lock lawsuit.

A group of us "Lock" researchers also believe that Peter was Sarah's son. She had a son named Petrus who was baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church in Conewago, PA in 1770. We believe that Petrus and Peter Lock, first of Mercer Co., then Shelby Co., then Henry Co., then Gallatin Co., and finally Switzerland Co., IN are the same man.

We first made the connection when we discovered that Peter Lock was assessed taxes on the same day that Sarah Lock was in 1796 in Shelby County. In fact, their names are listed together in the tax collector's records. If you have a copy of the original document for the Peter Lock lawsuit, I would appreciate a copy if possible. Of course, I would reimburse you for your copying and mailings costs.

Judi

Kathy:
There are many Admires in the USA and several in Missouri. As for the origin of the name, it is probably Germanic, although we don't know yet where in Europe the name might have originated. The earliest Admire (we can document) is George Erdmayer in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1751. We believe he may have arrived in Pennsylvania in 1748.

I may be able to help you with your grandmother's lineage if I knew when she was born and who & when she married. I have the book "Admire Is the Name" published by Ruth Snyder in 1995 and your family might be in it.

Rubyann Darnell

The short answer is - not likely at all.

A couple of years ago I asked Ruth Snyder if she would ever republish this book. She said she doubted that she would because she was working on a book of her husband's family and thought that would have to be her last book.

She didn't seem interested in just republishing the first volume because there is so much new information and additional families not to include them in a new book. The process of publishing that first book took her 8 years. A revision could possibly take that long, as well.

Rubyann

You would believe I just now found your answer to my question about George
W. Admire. He did marry Melissa McGinnis and after his death she had a son
George Scott born 8 Sept. 1885. She had a son born in 1883, Charles Benton.
She married George Washington Morehouse and they had 3 children. About 1900
after being found in the census he changed his name to Admyers that's why he
was hard to track. He married Olive Arlie Hunter and moved to Idaho. Died
Nov. 9, 1958. You said you would forward this to Ruth Snyder. I would
really like a copy of the page that gives this info. Thanks so much.
