Hello:

My apologies for not responding sooner. We were out of town for a few days, then when we got home I discovered that most of my Dalson genealogy research files were still in boxes from when we moved a while ago. So I had to do some scrambling to find what I needed.

I've got quite a lot of information to share with you; but I think the best way to do that is send it via e-mail directly to you and not post it on the Ancestry.com web-site.

So if you would send me your e-mail address I'll start sending the information to you.

Send it to: imtomcuthbert@hotmail.com
or: ThomasWCuthbert@aol.com

Thanks,

Tom

Re: ADOLPHSON (DALSON) Descendants - Michigan

Very happy to hear back from you. The simplest way of introducing ourselves is to have you turn to page 124 of Merle C. Dalson's book. My husband is the oldest of the three sons described in that section. He is now retired from the State Department.

Our first question is this: Have you determined for certain the date when Alfred Dalson arrived in the USA, the ship, and the port of entry? We believe we have found him in the Swedish Immigration Records (from Madesjo, planning to depart from Kalmar, and recorded 19 October 1887) but cannot seem to find him for certain in the actual arrival lists.

Question No. 2: We know that Alfred came first to Muskegon, Michigan. All four brothers did, including half-brother Gottfried (who never changed his name). Frans Jon, Peter, and Alfred were all in the 1888-1890 Muskegon phone book as laborers at the Petrie Lumber Company in North Muskegon. Gottfried was also in the book as a teamster in North Muskegon. It is our assumption that Alfred moved on to Wisconsin soon thereafter, since, in his World War I draft registration, oldest son Adolph Dalson put down his birth date as 4 May 1892 in Rhinelander. Do you know the actual year in which Alfred relocated to Wisconsin? Also, exactly where and when did he meet and marry Anna Christiansen?

Question No. 3: Do you have any information on Anna Christiansen's Danish parents (names, place of origin in Denmark, date of emigration, home in Wisconsin, occupation of her father)? There are so many Christiansens in the records that we are having a dickens of a time trying to decipher them.

Question No. 4: Try as we might, we have not found the dates and places of death for Alfred and Anna or their burial places. Can you help us?

That's it for starters. Look forward to your response. Shoot us any of your questions concerning the Michigan end of this. Incidentally, it was Alfred's brother Peter Dalson who instigated the name change from Adolphsson to "Dahlson" and finally to "Dalson". The only ones who did not make the change were Gottfried and the boys' unmarried sister, Christina, both of whom settled in Buffalo, New York. For a long time, there was a confusing switching back and forth between "Dahlson" and "Dalson". The last time we saw "Dahlson" used was in 1916, when my husband's grandfather, Victor Adolph Dalson, used it in purchasing a grave site for his mother-in-law in Manistee, Michigan.

Hello:

By way of an introduction I am a Dalson/Adolphson relative by marriage. My wife is Judith "Judie" nee Lader from Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Judie's mother is Lona "Tootie" Dalson, Wife of Gus Lader also of Rhinelander. I've been the resident family historian/genealogist for the past 40+ years.

Yes, I can share information with you. Just tell me what you are looking for and I will see what information I have. By the way, I use Family Tree Maker for storing and documenting my research efforts. So I can generate Microsoft Word, Rich-text format, and Acrobat PDF format files.

Yes, you are correct. It was Merle Dalson who got the ball rolling on the Dalson Memoirs. Merle was kind enough to send us a copy many years ago. He and his contributors did a very nice job of putting it together.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Tom Cuthbert
5851 Hardwick Street
Lakewood, CA 90713-1847
(562) 461-8121

my husband is the great-grandson of Frans Jon Adolphson (Dalson), who settled in Muskegon, Michigan, in 1887. He was the older brother of Alfred Dalson of Rhinelander. We are doing an extensive annotated/illustrated genealogy of the Dalson family, including the Wisconsin kinfolk. We would be very happy to do a little information trading with you. Incidentally, although we cannot be absolutely sure, we think Crystal Lynn's "Dalson Memoirs" were written by my husband's uncle, Merle C. Dalson, in the 1980's after he had made a trip to family farm at Madesjo in Kalmar Lan, Sweden. He sent a copy to someone in California but never heard back. Are we on for some swapping?

I HAVE A LOT OF INFORMATION, I HAVE COPIES OF THE DALSON MEMOIRS. I THOUGHT DARLENE JOHNSON GATHERED ALL THE INFO, BUT YOU PROBABLY WERE PART OF THE PROJECT. I AM WORKING ON GRANDPAS FATHER'S SIDE AND WONDERED IF YOU HAVE ANY TIPS. MY PROBLEM IS MY GREAT GRANDPA GUSTAF RUDOLPH CHANGED HIS NAME FROM ANDERSEN TO SWANSON WHEN HE CAME TO U.S. SO THAT IS ALL I KNOW.

Hello Crystal:

I received your recent e-mail posting regarding the Adolphson/Dalson family on Ancestry.com. I’m glad that you responded and it is always nice to hear from a relative.

Let me introduce myself by telling you that I am the “unofficial” family historian and genealogist. I am not a descendant of the Adolphson/Dalson line; but my wife is. She is Judith “Judie” Lader, the daughter of Gustave Lader and Lona Mae Dalson. She would be your second cousin twice removed.

Judie’s mother, Lona is the daughter of Carl Alfred Dalson/Adolphson and Johanne Marie Christensen. The family moved from Muskegon, Michigan and settled in Rhinelander, Wisconsin in the late 1890s. Incidently, Lona just recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

If you have any questions regarding these family ancestral lines I'll try to answer them.

Tom Cuthbert

I am looking for descendants and information on the Adolphson families that emigrated from Sweden to Muskegon County, Michigan in the mid to late 1800s. Some families changed their surname to Dalson upon arriving in the US.

Thanks,

Tom Cuthbert
