Hi Marie. I am looking for Genevieve Adamaitis, who was the daughter of Dominick or Dominic Adamaitis. They lived in Chicago, on North Hermitage Street. Genevieve was born around1921 and married Robert E. Johnson on August 5, 1944 at St. Gertrude's Church in Chicago. I have been trying to find their son Randy, nicknamed Skipper.

Are you familiar with these Adamaitis'?

Thank you for any information you may have.

Gerry Niedermaier
Michigan

I, like you, suspect we are unrelated. My family settled in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, while the addresses you gave me are on the south side of town. As far as I know (and cannot confirm since grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles and older cousins are all gone), no one in the immediate family ever lived outsude of the City of Philadelphia.

My family tree starts with Susan and John and goes forward through to their children and some grandchildren. As I mentioned before, the tree is still in progress.

I am sorry that we are not able to help each other. It would have been nice to make the connection. Good luck with your search!
Rita

I think this message board is having problems. I responded earlier today, but I do not see it now.

I'm not certain that our family had a blood connection to the Adomaitis line, but I have a family mystery that I was trying to find out about.

Stanislaw Adomeytis (note corrected spelling) arrived at Ellis Island on 4/29/1908, going to brother in law Stanislaw Lauritis at 1511 St Joseph St in Philadelphia PA. He is traveling with several other passengers, one is Anton Bielawski, who is also going to the same person in Philadelphia, who he says is a friend. It is Anton Bielawski who I was hoping to find out more on. By 1910 census Anton is in Pittsburgh PA, when his brother John/Jan arrived in the USA. I can't find either Anton or John in the 1920 census. It's possible they returned to Lithuania.

As for Stanley Adomaitis, I think I see him on the 1910 census in Philadelphia, listed as Stanley Adamite, 32 sgl, a boarder in a home on 218 Tasker St. He is living next to Stanley Laurek (possibly his brother in law?) wife Teresa 26, Edward 3, John 11 months.

The mystery I was hoping to solve, is that on the same manifest in 1908, listed just below Anton Bielawski, are some folks going to Easton PA (Northampton county) and I have a definite connection to them. I don't have the exact spelling in front of me, but I think it was a version of Magdalena Ubawiciene. I know her maiden name was Bieliauskas. she was my dad's aunt. I find it most curious that the passenger listed above her has a version of the same name, and is from close to the same area as her.

I wasn't able to access your family tree. I am curious to know if you had any family in other counties in PA?

If I answered your query previously, forgive me. We may possibly be related. My grandfather, born Adomaitis or Adomytis, emigrated from Lithuania in the early 1900s. Upon arrival, he (or, more likely, an immigration worker) changed his name to John Miller and settled in Kensington area of Philadelphia, PA. Both he and my grandmother (Susan - born Susanne or Susannah) left Eastern Europe for political reasons and, unfortunately, almost never spoke about their lives prior to moving to the US. I'm on a fishing expedition, since I don't know his original first name, the names of his brothers/cousins who emigrated, nor the town where he was born. I remember being told as a kid that I was "related to every Adomaitis in Pennsylvania." John and Susan had a large passel of children = please see the Miller/Adomaitis family tree (still a work in progress) that I have posted here on ancestry.com. I am anxious to hear back from you.

I see your message is from 5 years ago, and I don't have much info, except to say that the Adomaitis family was neighbors with my Great grandparents and grandparents. Aldonia Adomaitis and my grandmother Albina Zablockas were lifelong friends. I think their families were both from Seduva area.

Cheers,
Denise

My grandparents, John Miller (born Admomaitis) and Susan (also known as Susannah),emigrated from Lithuania to Philadelphia in the early 1900s. I know that Susan did not have any siblings in the United States, but believe that John had at least two brothers, both of whom initially settled in Pennsylvania. The children of my grandparents were Ann, Helen, Rita, Susan, Edward, John and Joseph, all of whom stayed in Philadelphia until their deaths. I am trying to find out any information regarding my grandparents, particularly their town or region of origin in Lithuania and anything at all about John's siblings. I'd appreciate any leads whatsoever.

Hello...I recived you message about your search for your Gt grandmothers origins.
Naujemestis is i would say no more than a village , but i think in fact it is a district in Panavezys. We as i mentioned went to the cemetry there where my grandmother was buried BUT there is no mention of her on the gravestone (only her sister Antanina) but the family that we met there assured us that that is where she was buried (i think in the 70's).
There is an existing relative from the Adomaitis's in Eriskai (another village just outside Panavezys) .This relative is the daughter of Antanina (my grandmothers sister) . However we were told that she is old and not very coherent .
Our own father and his mother were actually from a village that no longer exists as such in the naujemestis district called 'Joskildae'...we did find where it used to be though.
I dont have the address of the church but i am sure it will still be there...i will try and find out more for you and reply soon.
Have you been to Lithuania ?
If not you should go it is a very beautiful country.
Regards Aldona

I was just surfing with my new info that my Great Grandmother's maiden name was Adomaitis (Anna) when I saw your message. I am looking for the address of the Roman Cath. church in Naujemestis which is where my Grandmother's NY marriage application states she was baptized. Anna married Peter Jaszinskas/Jusinskas & their children were Mathilda, Anna, John & my Grandmother, Mariona. I was told they all came to the US together but because of the wide varieties of spellings, I have not yet been able to locate them. Town names that I have, are that she was born in Kalines or Suwalki. I have been looking for Naujemestis as if it were a town. Am I correct? Please respond to my email address- jmpala@aol.com. Many thanks for any info you can provide on the area.Possibly your Marita is my Anna's sister.? I have nothing that mentions Panavezys.

I saw this message board and I simply cannot resist posting a message! My last name is Adamaitis, I'm in search of relatives. It was my Grandfather joseph Adamaitis who emigrated from Lithuania. When? I'm not sure. My biological father's name is Donald. He had many brothers and sisters, one brother who died from a brain tumor (I think). I'm really not sure of any other Adamaitis', which is why I'm doing this. If anyone out there on the world wide web knows anything about this, contact me. My email address should be provided to you automatically. Thank you!

Although I have been dabbling in genealogy for a few years, I am just starting to research my mother-in-law's line: Adams. She just told me that the name was originally Adamaitis
and sometimes Adomaitis. Her grandfather, Isadore Adamaitis, emigrated to the U.S. from Lithuania around the turn of the century. His wife's name was Barbara and they lived in Pittsburgh/Allegheny County area.

When I checked on the web tonight, I found your listing on the FamilyHistory.Com bulletin board about the Adamaitis family in Luzerne County, PA. I also
checked on Ancestry.com and found the following listings for WW I civilian draft registrations. On the off chance that you did not already have this info,
here it is.

Name Birth Date Ethnicity Birth Place County State
George Adamaitis 23 Apr 1878 White citizen of Russia Luzerne Pennsylvania
Michael Adamaitis 24 Dec 1881 White naturalized citizen Luzerne Pennsylvania

Good luck with your research. If you find an "Isadore" while shaking your family tree, please let me know. Thanks.

Regards,
Carolyn Mazenko

Searching for Adamaitis, I have found my Lithuanian name being misspelled as Adomaitis.

Be careful when trusting this spelling. The spelling I have listed is of a male. The unmarried female spelling is Adamaene and the married female spelling is Adamayte. Can get very confusing.

Am looking for any relatives of Frank John Adamaitis born Vilnius Lithuania, emigrated to this country approximately 1900-1905, settling in Luzerne County, PA. Had three children that survived: Francis Leo Adamaitis (my father) b. 1910 d. 1959, Joseph Adamaitis b. 1912 d. 1945, and Mildred b. 1915. Frank was supposed to have a brother named George Adamaitis in the same area. He was also supposed to have had a son George.

I know nothing of this branch of my family am anxious to find some relatives of the PA branch.

Please respond with any information you may have directly to me at padams1@san.rr.com
