She was beautiful, funny and she loved to travel. Once she went to Mexico and brought me a little blue wool vest that I still have to this day.
My mother and Aunt Wendy went to visit you in England when I was kid. She brought me back a pair of wine colored leather riding pants. I loved them. lol

I was not ready to say good-bye.
I held your mothers hand and whispered in her ear "I love Great Grandmother Glee please come home soon. I will come back tomorrow and bring you a picture that I am going to draw for you." this was the day before she died in the hospital and she squeesed my hand so hard , my Mother (Linda Gail Roan Nunnelley) called the Nurse.
Great Grandmother Glee did live in Florida and when I was a toddler, Barbara Ann and Wendall ( my Grandparents) took me to florida to stay for awile.

I am a descendant of James Tunnah married to your Isobell Affleck b.1789. Their son James Tunnah b.1817 emmigrated to USA. I have this family tree. Their daughter, Margaret b. 1821 is my brick wall. Do you have any info? We have no further records of Isobell or margart. We feel they both may have died in child birth,as James marries again (no date) and begins second family in 1826 (5 children) One my great grandfather that emmigrated to Ontario,Canada.Happy to

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry P. Anderson, in 1985; and a brother, Robert Affleck. She is survived by her sons, Henry G. and his wife, Carol, of Greensburg, and Jerome F. and his wife, JoAnne, of Sequim, Wash.; three grandchildren, Henry C. and his wife, Lori, of North Carolina, Kenneth, of Belle Vernon, and Robert, of Washington State; and four great-grandchildren, Joe, John, Joyce and Mitchell. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday in the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 702 Seventh St., Route 130, Trafford, Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Spitzel officiating. Private internment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Chaleroi. Do you live on PEI now? I have the same exact question as you. I have traced my ancestry down to the same 2 people but have not found any information about where they are from. My father's family still lives on PEI. We must be related some how. What is your website? I'm new to ancestry.com and not sure how to get around in it yet. Glad I saw your post. Afternoon people, my great great great whatever grandfather was Affleck/Danby through his granddaughter Elizabeth Goddard who married WB Crosbie of "Mullagh" (Harrow, Vic) and "Bucki" (Henty NSW) stations. He self-styled himself the Earl of Danby and had a crest of a crab with the motto 'in god we trust' which he liberally placed on some silverware and a magnificent set of illustrated Bibles we still have. God seemed to be pretty good to him. He appears to have been a rogue, black sheep and possibly remittance man. The Afflecks I believe were Baronets and Oxford dons in theology (generations of PhDs) while the real money was from his mother. Prior to gaining the Danby inheritance (he had to change his name by deed poll to get it)an Adelaide paper of the time says that he was a young man currently working in a fellmongery (picking wool off dead sheep) wryly adding that "It is believed to be his third fortune". Family lore has it that he promptly contacted his mates and said "Whacko boys, it's on again". He built a mansion in Robe (SA) which still stands and went back to such pleasant pastimes as hurling grand pianos off third floor hotel rooms in Adelaide. According to my great uncles and The Truth from the '30s, on his death the search went out for his oldest male relative who was duly found doing time in Pentridge for blackmail.

Bye the bye, Mullagh is famous for producing most of the team which made up the first Australian cricket team to tour England, the Aboriginal group of 1868(?) hence the captain's sobriquet of Johnny Mullagh (real name almost unpronounceable)

Family lore claims that on hearing of the inheritance he got together with his mates and said "whacko boys, it's on again" apparently involving hurling grand pianos into the streets of Adelaide and other such worthwhile activities. According to my great uncles and an article in The Truth in the '30s the search for a male heir lead to a nephew who was spending some time in Pentridge for the 'badger game' - ie blackmailing prominent people by taking photos of them with interesting women.
WB Crosbie and Elizabeth owned "Mullagh" (Harrow Vic) and "Bucki" (Henty) stations. The former, along with "Pine Hills" station was where the first Australian (Aboriginal) cricket team to tour England (1868?) came from - hence the captain's name of Johnny Mullagh.

" A Farewell dance was tendered to Miss Ettie Goddard on the eve of her marriage. It was a most enjoyable function. Friends from far and near managed to attend. Miss Goddard was presented with a charming cream and sugar bowl on a silver stand , as a small mark of affection from her girl friends. Some very pretty frocks were worn at the dance. Miss Pinches , of Kingston, supplied the music."

Another pretty wedding was solemnized at St Peter's Church on Sep 17, when Miss Ettie Goddard, fifth daughter of Mr Charles Goddard, was married to Mr W MacKinnon, engineer of the drainage department, Beachport. The bride was given away by her father, and was very prettily robed in white embroidered muslin, and with this was worn a whiet hat with ostrich feathers , and she carried a bouquet of flowers. Miss Connie Goddard attended her as bridesmaid and was frocked in a cream lace dress and white hat, and carried a bouquet of flowers..... After the ceremony the guests were conveyed in motor cars to the residence of Mr Charles Goddard, where the wedding breakfast was partaken. Later in the day Mr and Mrs MacKinnon left by motor car for Mount Gambier on their honeymoon"

George Affleck was as you mentioned knighted and took on the name of Danby. The name Danby was his grandmother's Maiden name. As his brothers were all deceased he had to return to England to inherit his grandmother's estate to do this he needed to take on the name Danby. This family i have traced back to William the Conqueror. John De DAnby was a land owner in Great and Little Danby and other Hamlets in Yorkshire England. You can see this family and the ancestors in the Family Tree Royal Links To Danby.

INresponse to the kind person who provided the information. I am putting in for you to add to your knowledge base the following:
Gilbert Affleck of Dalham Hall co Suffolk Esquire; M.P for Cambridge is 5th in Descent from Sir John Auchinleck, the 2nd son of Gilbert Auchinleck of Auchinleck, Scottland. Be note the Spelling for AFFLECK is different but hte pronunciation is the same.This is the line that led to George Affleck who became George Danby who built Lakeside Manor which is very similiar to Dalham Hall in suffolk England. The Danby name comes from George's maternal side.One of George's daughter's married Charles Henry Wookey who was a farmer and highly renowned WoolClasser who was born at Carngham, Ballarat. Charles was teh youngest of twelve children. His father Wiliam Alexander came to Victoria Australia from Everton, Liverpool England.His Wife Agnes Bruce McKenzie came from Kilmarnock, Scotland and they married at St James Cathedral Melbourne. He left two living brothers and 4 living sisters in Liverpool. This family and descendants now live in Liverpool, Barrow on Furness and Birkenhead Cheshire.

Hi, a lovely lady Tricia Hunt in Redhill Surrey gave me some wonderful information which was a great help. I will share it now:
AFFLECK George Danby Esq of Swinton Park, Yorkshire.
Youngest son of the late Sir Robert AFFLECK Bart of Dalham, Suffolk and Maria second daughter of the late Sir Elijah IMPEY of Neweick Park, Sussex b.1818. Is magistrate for North Riding of Yorkshire. He assumed in 1879 the name and arms of DANBY on inheriting this property Swinton Park near Bedale.
(From the County Families of the U.K. 1879 by E. Walford M.A..Published
London Chatto and Windus, 214 Picadilly 1885, page 286).

Unknown if linked to below family.
William Henry Danby who died aboard ship off Albany in Feb. 1874. His body was taken to Albany Church and he was buried there in an unmarked grave.Sometime later a stained glass window was sent to the church in his memory. This William Henry DANDY he may have had a connection with the Danby/Afflecks

I am replying to your request. My husband is related throuhg his great grandfather who married a daughter of George Affleck. George was connected to the Danby estates through his maternal side so had the right to receive the estate. Although he had to change his name to Danby to inherit the estate.It is our fqamilies undertanding George went home to do this and was assisted by his mother. but that is only ancedotal from my now deceased father in law.

I beleive my grandfather Thomas Affleck came from Shakespear Road in Dumfries. He died in Fulham London in the 1920s. Also one of my relations had a street called Affleck St, named after him. Part of the street is still there off Pentonville Rd. We believe he was the mayor of St Pancras.

And this Elizabeth BRIGHT was the daughter of Jerome Denny BRIGHT and Susannah DENNY.

Interesting that AFFLECK is common in Canada.
AFFLECK is closely linked in South Australia to the GODDARD and BRIGHT and DENNY family (the latter as ancestors of the GODDARD son who married Miss AFFLECK.
I have found direct descendants of Jerome Denny BRIGHT in New Zealand and Canada. And I know that some direct descendants have beautiful examples of the pocket watches made in the late 1700s - made by Jerome Denny BRIGHT.

So another line in the GODDARD family are the ancestors with the surnames BRIGHT and DENNY (where they are from Suffolk in England originally) - because i know that in Canada there are also direct descendants of Jerome Denny BRIGHT whose wife was Susannah DENNY. And one of the descendants of Jerome Denny BRIGHT and Susannah DENNY was the daughter who married into the GODDARD family in South Australia. And then one of the GOODDARD sons in South Australia married into the AFFLECK family.
The linking area of England in the BRIGHT / GODDARD and DENNY is the county of Suffolk in England.
So if your ancestor has the surname GODDARD or DENNY - and the said ancestor came from Suffolk in England or better still if you know that your direct ancestor was the clock maker from Suffolk called Jerome Denny BRIGHT then it is a fair chance that we are related. Jerome Denny BRIGHT was a brother of the painter Henry BRIGHT, also from Suffolk in England.

I recall my late father talking about Stuckey and Crosbie cousins from around Robe and Millicent in South Astralia and I know his mother was a Goddard from the area. He spoke of spending time on the family property in South Australia as a boy (my guess would be 1930s) In my part of the family it was said that the name change to Danby was a requirement to inherit Danby title and property

Let me try again with my inquiry to you. I am related to a Charles Owen Afflick/Affleck who lived in Shelby Co., KY and possibly Bedford Co., KY and was wanting to see if possibly we are related. Charles named his oldest son Thomas and a daughter, Mary. Charles and his family migrated to central Missouri around 1855-1860, just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War where they lived until they died. Charles is my great great granddad. He's buried in Fayette City Cemetery, Howard Co., MO along with his wife, son and youngest, daughter, Sallie Lee Afflick Woods, my great grandmother.

What can you tell me about Thomas and Mary?

Maybe a little late replying to this one - I'm not even sure if you are still on the same email address?
I have researched all the Durham Afflecks, and am sure I can take you back quite a long way.
Thomas Affeck bn 1831 and died 1910 married Margaret Ann Hannington who was bn 1831. From my reasearches they had 4 children - Mary Ann Affleck bn 1851 Chester le Street, Durham; Joseph Hannington Affleck bn 1855, Chester le Street, Durham; Nellie Affleck bn 1864 Ohio; John Hannington Affleck who was born 27 May 1867 Ohio. Thomas Affleck married Maragaret Ann Hannington on 23 Jun, 1850 at the Parish Church, All Saints Newcastle. Margaret Ann Hannington signed the marriage cert, Thomas put X mark. The Witnesses wer Peter Watson (X mark), and William Nilson (who I think was parish clerk).
In 1851 they are living at High Road, Lamesley, Chester le Street, Thomas being 20 years old and a coal miner bn Washington and Margaret A is also 20 bn Heworth. From my records they arrive in New York onboard the ship "The City of Baltimore" on 12 Aug 1857 - the departure was from Liverpool. I then found them in censuses in USA - 1860 at Sutton Township, Meigs, Ohio. I have followed them through more censuses.
I am sure this is your family. However because you last posted so long ago?

My fathers family moved from Newcastle to Durham, my grand father was Frank Affleck, his first wife passed away during ww2 of an illness, I only knew his second wife as grandma Patey. My father was named Kenneth, and he had at least one sister that I know of named Elsie, I also remember an uncle Andy and an uncle Jim, I believe there were more aunts and uncles but I don't remember their names. My father moved our family to Canada in 1966, we went to live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. If anyone knows anything about the Affleck's that stayed in England, I would love to find out what became of them.

Also looking for the Affleck family who moved from Scotland to Co. Durham. William Affleck1 had son William Affleck2 b.Urpeth Durham c1819 who married Charlotte Clarke and had 3 children incl. William3 b.1855 in Gateshead, d.1879. His brother, Robert b.1858 Gateshead, married Georgiana Scotson Morris and had 6 children incl. William4 b.1882 in Gateshead. His brother, JM married and had son William5 who is my husband.
I can't work out who William1's parents were or his wife or when the family moved south or where from exactly. Any help available?

Parents names Should read George Affleck and Elizabeth C. A. Rickard. Shea was releated to the Rickard family who owned the Rickard Coal Yard in Germantown, Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth C. A. Rickard daughter of Henry Rickard and Mary Ann Harmer aka Mary N. Harmer. George Affleck and Elizabeth C A Rickard are my ggGrandparents. George was an immigrant from Scotland. Arrived thru the port of NY in 1873 with his brother Joseph and his mother Helen Brokie. He was struck down by an automobile in 1930 and died as a result of the injuries.

Sir Edward Osborne, Baronet of Kiveton, Yorkshire, had succeeded to the baronetcy and
estates in 1647, in 1673 he was created Viscount Osborne in the Scottish peerage and, in 1694
he received an English peerage and was created Earl of Danby.
This Danby earldom became extinct due to the failure of the direct male line of descent –
hence George Affleck had to take the name of Danby to inherit his family estate but could
not inherit the title. He became known as Sir George Affleck Danby; but this too, lapsed by
his failure to register his “arms” and pedigree at the Herald’s Collage.
