Hi, My family is based in Sussex and I grew up in Brighton but I cannot find a reference to an Albert yet. The latest I have is the birth of my grandfather Thomas William in Galway Ireland in 1886, his father was Frank Agate a traveller!
Not sure if this will help but I am just starting this search so we can see where we get to

Hi Mark,
I'm Allan Agate cousin to your father Richard, our last meeting was at Jocks Funeral earlier in the year. I'm just setting out researching my family tree and wife Sandra's. If as you say a tree has been established back to the 15 century, are you able to share it with me, it would save a lot of time.
Hope you and your family are well, have a happy New Year,
Kind Regards
Allan

We have a Sarah Agate in our family tree who was baptised on the date you have given as your Sarah's DOB, but I do not have any further details of her, I just know her place in our tree. She was the youngest sister of my 3 x great grandfather. The family were in the Cowfold/Bolney area.

Joanne

I may be able to shed some light on your search for information about Kezia. I think she is the daughter of William Agate of Cuckfield who was the younger brother of my 4 x great-grandfather. William was born c1741 and married m Ann Unwin @ Twineham in 1777. I have recently obtained a copy of their Uncle's will where he refers to William as 'William Agate of Cuckfield', although the rest of the family seem to have remained in the Bolney area. Also William had an Aunt whose name was Kezia Agate (born 1717 who married Thomas Buckman of Itchingfield @ Slaugham in 1735. If you are able to verify that this the younger Kezia is your ancestor, I can give you more detail going backwards. Regards Carolyn
I can tell you about another John Agate (about 1673 - 1748) who is also buried in Warnham churchyard. I think it is this John who runs into some trouble in 1721 for failing to contribute to the development of a Baptist Meeting House. It is not exactly clear what is going on but it concerns mortgages on 2 premises.

His sister, Mary, married Richard Cragg in 1693 in Slaugham. Mary and John's parents were another John Agate and Ann Marchant. Ann was a particularly strong Baptist. Richard Cragg's sister marries another Agate - Robert in Horsham in Feb 1684 /85.

I would like to connect up all these Agates too.

Thank you for your prompt reply and for the baptism date of William junior. I know William Agate senior was born in Bolney but unfortunately not baptised there! Do you have any Agate families pre 1800? Are there any particular parishes they inhabit? I have come across Cowfold, Warnham and Bolney. Thank you for your help.

I am descended from David Agate, one of the sons of William Agate who married Harriett Ford on 19th June, 1805 at Keymer. I have not been able to find a baptism for William Agate, apart from one in Horsham 1786 to a William and Rebecca (nee Stanford) Agate which I don't think is the correct one. I am completely stuck and would be interested to know whether you have anything on your database which would help please. Also I do not have the baptism of David's elder brother William.

Castle Hill is in New Addington, a large council estate on the outskirts of Croydon. I left the school in 1962 to go senior school and I left New Addington in 1970 to go to University and never returned. Hence I lost contact with Janet Agate. I remember that she had her first child sometime in 1962/1963?

Her name was Janet Agate but I cannot remember if this was her maiden or married name. Interestlingly, I think she was married to a John. Can you help?

Regards

Thanks for your e-mail the info about my father (Robert Michael Agate b. 1936 married Patricia Louisa Whittington) that you had was correct, I sent an e-mail bakc with all the info I could get from my family members. Looks like we go bact to William Agate who was born in 1784 in Bolney (?) and married Harriet ?. Hopefully with the help of this message board I can fill in the many holes. When I have more info I will post it in case it helps anyone else.
