I imagine you have found out a lot about your family since you posted this message. I created a tree for the Kilgallens because my father said we were related, and I wanted to find out what the relationship was. I will try to send you an invitation to the Kilgallen tree. If you don't get that invitation, send me a message and we will try something else! (By the way, I don't think we are related to that branch of the Ahern family.)

Hi there,

My nams is Mark Brown (surname different due to step parentage) and these Ahearns started as Ahern's in Sydney around the 1850's. Gradually the 'a' has made its way into many of the descending Aherns and my relatives came from inner Sydney, and over to W.A. attracted by the gold rush.

I have gone back to a James Ahern through my family lines, who married a Mary Maloney/Moloney in Sydney in 1855, there are many records of James in particular, either having arrived from County Corl as an immigrant (with family) or as a convict.

I would love to hear from any of the Ahearn/Ahern descendants who may have family links to mine around that time, cheers Mark

Back in 2001 I sent a request to the Nevada County Genealogical Society for information they had on the Ahern / Ahearn name. They sent me a packet of information which included a listing for a William Ahearn in the Great Register of Nevada County of 1882. The following was listed for William Ahearn:
--------
Name: William Ahearn
Age: 43
Country of Nativity: Ireland
Local Residence: Allison Ranch
Naturalized: (Date, Place and by What Court) Sept 1, '68, Nev co, Cal, Co Ct
Date of Registration: Aug. 8, 1878
--------
They sent me a photocopy of the page for the naturalization from the Nevada County Court, Vol 2 - 1867-1868 Page 86. It lists William Ahern, a native of Ireland, with 2 witnesses: George Fitzgerald and what looks to be: James Maguerie (maybe Maguire?)

So note that in the Great Register his name is spelled Ahearn and on the actual court record it is spelled Ahern.

In the Great Register of Nevada County for 1892 (ten years later) There is a listing for 3 Ahearn's, (John, Thomas James, and Alexander J.)Agess: 28, 28 and 26 respectively. All born in California. Are these the children of William Ahearn listed above? He would have been 25 when the oldest were born? You may have to check the census's for any girls. They only listed male head of household in these registers apparently. I have not pursued these Ahearn's yet but I believe they may be related to my Johanna Ahearn.

If you would like copies, contact me by email at dodonnel@earthlink.net and I can send you pdf files by email, or mail them if you prefer.

Dan O'Donnell
Hi,
I am so glad I could help. I think I sent for maybe 4 certificates. Got your two Aherns that weren't mine and a Bradley which wasn't mine, but I got my great grandmother's and it gave month and year and names of both ships she took, one from NY to Panama, and another from Panama to San Francisco so I was able to go the the NY and SF newspapers and see her name in both papers, departing NY on the Ocean Queen and arriving San Francisco on the Sacramento. Her parents had moved from New Jersey to CA a few years earlier but I don't know how, when or more importantly why. Wish I could find that.
I would be happy to send you the certificates. No charge. Just e-mail me at mroddyn3@msn.com with your postal address and I will send them.

Thank you! I was excited upon receiving your entry. I had run across James and Johanna on the NDGW site but had not sent for certificates. Now that I see the info contained, I wish I had. Thank you for providing the transcriptions.

I would be interested in copies of your certificates. Let me know if there is a cost for mailing or other.

The persons listed as filing the information with the Daughters of the Golden West were my paternal grandmother and her sister, my great aunt Miriam. (I have a sister Miriam named after her.) In fact my first name is James and although I am named after my father, (I am a junior), my father was named after the James Ahern listed on your certificates.

I believe you are correct. The James Ahern is not related to our James or Johanna. If I run across any info in my research I will definitely pass it on. (I have bookmarked your ID.)

Thank you again,

James 'Dan' O'Donnell

I have not found any 1/2 brothers by the name of Fahey. I show James Ahern as having only the Ahern surname associated with his side of the family. He was born in Ireland and came to the US in the 1840's with some family. Went to California to find his fortune... but didn't. I have not pinpointed the California arrival date as of yet. I have not seen the association of the surname Fahey or Cloonan in any of my research on the Ahern side. (James Ahern was my 2nd great grandfather on my fathers mothers side.)

I tried your listed link and received a "Page Not Found" error. I tried html, and backing off all the way to the ...ancestry.com/ point and did not find the ahern link. I have found most of the mentioned records and listings for the ahern family in the SF and Grass Valley area including birth and death notices and certs. for the 5 daughters and their families (Renetzky, Growney, Forbes, Ahern).
I also have the wedding info on James and Johanna, married in Grass Valley 24 Jan 1858.

I am now trying to find the arrival of these Ahern / Ahearns to California.

I know that Johanna Ahearn arrived in New York from England on the ship Alert, 3 June 1846. The manifest also lists other family members.

I have not pinned down the arrival of James Ahern to US or Cal. (James Ahern seems to be a name like John Smith, for the Irish.)

I thank you for your information. I have perused the Ahern Site in the past and continue to find invaluable info that as I gain insight, I begin to notice.

Thanks,
Dan O'Donnell

Jeremiah Ahern + Margaret Buckley, issue Margaret, William Richard, John, Jeremiah

I'm researching Margaret Buckley who came to NY from Ireland as a girl, 1880s approximately, and married Jeremiah Ahern. Children were Margaret, William, Richard, John, and Jeremiah who died in 1917 aged 5.

Margaret jr. married someone with last name Daly; no children, lived in Boston. Richard married Helen O'Brien in 1942, no children. John married Elsie Lewis and had children Patricia, Raymond, John.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Marguite Fahey, Father was John Fahey and her Mother was Annie Ahearn (Ahearns). They were married in Grass Valley on the 4th of Sept 1887.

I believe that Annie Father was William Ahearn and her Mother was Margaret Cosgrove. But that is as far as I can go on Annie side.

John Fahey, Father was Michael Fahey, who was born in Ireland on the 6th of Sept 1820. He married Anne Cloonan, I believe on the 12th of Dec 1830 in Ireland. Where John was born - I dont have an clue and I am clutching at straws but maybe they left Ireland together and if I could find one I might be able to find the other.

I am looking for John Fahey who I believe was James brother. If this is the case their Father was Michael Fahey and their mother was Anne Cloonan. I am also looking for the Ireland part of the ancestory. Have you found out any more
