Hi,

My late Grandfather's name was Malaesaili Ahmann, who fathered thirteen children. The eldest of these thirteen is my father Samuel Ahmann.

I currently reside in Melbourne but leave a huge family of Ahmann's in Auckland in a little country called New Zealand, near the south pacific. I don't have any history before my Late Grandfather and post this in hopes of obtaining some info.

I bought a number of photos at an estate sale that seem to be from the same families. The names on the photos are the following:
Louis Pogorelc, father of Anne Pogorelc Spiller and Joseph and Charles Pogorelc. He was born in Dolenja Vas Pri Ribnci, Slovenia. Louis died in Dec 1918.
There is also a group photo with a Pogorelc man (same one labeled above) with other men in a photo labeled Ceterta Redna Kohvencija taken in Cleveland, OH in September 1916. This photo has every photo identified with a last name underneath.

Please email me privately if you have an interest in these photos.

Kathy Wieland in St. Louis, MO
Kathy@craftsbykathy.com

I have traced the Hannasch family back many generations to Germany and have visited the Hannasch estate in Nienberge and the Ressemann farm in Polsum, Germany as well as the former Ahmann farm. My grandmother was Josephine Hannasch and her mother was Josephine Ressemann.
Hi. I am looking for any and all help I can get on my Hannasch family tree. They were born in MN. Some eventually moved to SD.

My name is Mary Generose Birnbaum. My maiden name is Hamm and my mother's maiden name is Hannasch. Her father, John W. Hannasch is the son of Wilhelm and Josephine (Resserman) Hannasch. Wilhelm was born about 1837 and Josephine was born about 1849. I also have it that there are 11 children, one of which was my Grandfather.. They settled on a farm in Grant Twp., Roberts Co. SD. Josephine died in ST. Paul, Mn.

Wilhelm is the son of Henry and Josephine Weber. They had three children, William (Wilhelm); Anton, who is buried at Sauk Center, MN and was never married, and a daughter, name unknown. I have no other information on the daughter.

Josephine Resserman is the daughter of Henry and Anna Ahman. They had 6 children

Wilhelm and Josephine (Resserman) Hannasch would be my Great Grandparents. My sister and I have just started this search and would appreciate any help we can get.

It would be easier for me to communicate by e-mail so I will enclose my addy for any one with info.

Re: Ahmann-Westphalia, Germany-Fuchs/Willenbring/Ahmann line

The only part of the Ahmann line I'm researching is the descendants of Fred and Loretta Ahmann. They are two of the children of Joseph Ahmann Jr. Fred married Anna Fuchs (a cousin of my husband's) and Loretta married Henry Willenbring (another of my husband's cousins in the same family.) I found the Joseph Ahmann you mentioned who married Magdaline. The family immigrated May 17, 1875 from Bremen, Germany on the Oder. Magdaline was the mother of 13 children, of which ten were still living in 1900. The three who died must have died in Germany because there were ten children who immigrated with Joseph and Magdaline. Their children (and ages in 1875) are Elisabeth, age 21; Heinrich, age 20; Francisca, age 18; Johann, age 15; Maria, age 11; Theodor, age 10; Joseph, age 9; Ludwig, age 7; Johanna, age 5; and Josephina, age 3. I don't know if you know this, but most German families called their children by their middle name and most children in the family were given the same first name. The result was three daughters name Anna Maria, Anna Katherine and Anna Elizabeth. It can make it hard to find people at times, because some families (like in my line) switched to using first names years after immigrating. I don't know what you have on Joseph and Magadline's line, but I've been putting together the descendant I've been able to find for Fred and Loretta. Joseph Jr. and some of his children went to North Dakota, mainly Ward County and Renville County. I'll see if I can track down any other lines of Joseph, Sr. It might take me a while to get back to you since I have a son who's almost two, and a Navy husband who have a tendency to keep me from my work at times. I hope this helps a little.

Corrie Keenen

Corrie,

I hope this post isn't too late - I'd like to talk to you.

I'm a descendent of John Traun (Jr.) (1863 - 1920) who married a Johanna Ahmann (1870 - 1950) in 1890(?). Family record show that Johanna was born in 1870, Germany, to a Joseph Ahmann (1820 - 1903) and Magdalene Schultenover (? - 1907). I know that John Traun (Jr.) came over from Austria around 1858 - to Stearns County (St. Cloud area) in central Minnesota.

Perhaps we can fill in some blanks for each other?

Mark McCauley
mwmccauley1@yahoo.com

They both married cousins of my husband's Willenbring line. All I have is one child for Fred, Kenneth Ahmann, and for Loretta I have her children, and some marriages. If I notice anything that I have that you don't, I'll send that along. I have a bit on the Fuchs and Willenbring lines if you need those. Thanks again!

Corrie

Ahmann-Westphalia, Germany-Fuchs/Willenbring/Ahmann line

I recently found two Ahmann relations that are cousins of my husband through the Willenbring family of Minnesota. Frederick Ahmann was born in December 1892 and married Anna Fuchs. Loretta Ahmann was born in April 1898 and married Henry Charles Willenbring. Frederick and Loretta were the children of Joseph and Margery (Maggie) Ahmann. Joseph was born in 1866 in Westphalia,Germany and Margery was born in March 1872 in Minnesota to German immigrants. Joseph immigrated in 1875 to the United States and became a naturalized citizen and worked as a farmer. around 1905-1908, the Ahmann, Fuchs, and Willenbring families moved to Muskego Township, Renville County, ND. I have found this through the 1900 and 1920 Federal Census records. Joseph and Margery had quite a few children after their marriage around 1890. If anyone can help fill in the descendants of Fred and Loretta Ahmann, I would appreciate it. If anyone would like the census information, let me know and I'll send it alone. I only have back to Joseph as he's the father-in-law of our cousins, but have found a few GEDcom trees that have his ancestry at rootsweb.com.

Corrie Keenen

Hi Annette:

I have come quite a way in my research since we connected a while back. I have info on the Leo Ahmann/Harriet Brennan family and would like to compare notes. It is interesting that you say he was born in Germany, I thought he might have been born in Minnesota. Leo is my Great-Grandmother's brother, so that makes us fairly close cousins (compared to most I meet on the net doing family research).

I hope to hear from you soon.
Sharil

Hi Katrina:

My database was accidently deleted recently [while trying to back it up of all things! :~( ], so I am unable to do a database search through my records. Perusing my printout, I don't come across a John Henry, but that doesn't mean I don't have him there. Could you give me some more information, such as his wive's or children's names, his birth/death dates, or anything else that might help me look for him?

Also, are you aware of a lady named Gwen Bonine Ahmann Lysilka? She has put together a book about all the Ahmann descendants (although I am not in it and I don't find your name there either). It is currently under revision and I am trying to contact her with some additional information about my line.

I can be easily reached at SharilVan-Cleave@freightliner.com.
Missouri Ahmanns

I'm a decendant of the Ahmann family from Marthasville, Missouri. They imigrated from Germany in the 1840s I believe. I found a website a few years ago created by a guy named Lowell M. Schake who was a recently retired professor from Texas Tech Univ. The website was wonderful for a history on our family but has since been removed. He had gone to Marthasville and done in depth research on the Schake genealogy and had alot of info on the Ahmann's. As I recall, all of the names traced back to either Otto Ahmann or Hermann Ahmann and they were some characters. Through the history that he had, it looks like we come from a long line of draft dodgers. One of the stories he had uncovered was about when people were being conscripted into the army. Apparently one of our ancestors stayed in the basement of his home for a week when he heard that the military was coming to round up people to go to war. Then he drank vinegar before going to talk to the recruiter. The lack of sun made him pale and by drinking vinegar his lips appeared white. The recruiter diagnosed him with "the kings disease" which could only be cured by the touch of the king. Since the king was elsewhere, my dear ancestor was passed on for military service. Then another ancestor intentionally stung himself with bees and claimed he had polio to dodge another draft.
Lowell Schake sent me a family tree which is somewhere at my mothers but I'd be happy to fax it to you if you like, providing I can still find it! His site was really great though. I sent an email to someone on another message board asking for Lowell's email address to see where the site is now. If I find it, I'll post the address. I've been to Marthasville when I was a kid and there are quite a few Ahmann's in that cemetary.
I hope this helps!
