Judith, Thanks for sharing your family history with me. I think I remember my father and mother speaking about their visit many years ago. Not sure if I lived home then. My Mother Kathleen(Gonder)Hofstra passed away in January 2008. My father passed in 1993. The Anes come from Stanton Kentucky and then many came to Cadillac, Michigan. Mamie sisters and brothers and family are buried in Maple Hill Cemetery. Where is Nettie buried? My wife Patti and I have been tracking our family history for the last four years. We have found many interesting stories and researched family of past. It's really neat to share with my siblings new found history of our family. I find American family history back to 1633. Soon we are planning on traveling to Ohio to meet new found family. Nettie Jane and Mamie's mother is Alice Jane(Hubbard) Anes. We will be visiting Hubbard family members some time soon in October. They live in Blue Creek Village, near Rome Ohio along the Ohio River. May I ask where you folks live in Tennessee? Would your Mother and you be interested in Patti and I visiting? Hope you know how much I appreciate and love finding new family. Thanks Jim and Patti Hofstra. Jenison, Michigan.

Judith.
Hell-0 I just noticed your inquiry. I'm Jim Hofstra and the grandson of Mamie(Anes)and Evart Gonder. We live in Jenison Michigan. I also have done research and contacted other family members. My mother Kathleen(Gonder) Hofstra just passed away in January 2008. She was Mamie's only daughter and she had two brothers, Robert and William Gonder. My folks are buried in Jenison, Michigan. I have visited Stanton,Ky where Mamie was born but found no family history. Mamie and Evart are buried in Maple Hill cemetery in Cadillac and many (11) other Anes as well. I would love my information and yours as to share with one another. I have picture and bibles of Grand Parents and other history. Mamie Mother was Alice Jane Hubbard. Her family are living in Ohio, KY and Michigan. Please contact me. You are my cousin. Where does your mother live, and you. I would love to visit your family. Thanks. How can I help?

I am Nettie Jane Anes grand daughter who is a sister to Mamie, Ada, Chester, Henry, Clyde, Billy, Grace. My grandmother married Homer A. Newman Sr. .My mother is Eleanor Jane Newman Ross . She will be 90 years old in Dec. I have letters from Aunt Ada, Aunt Mamie, uncle Chester Aunt Anna , Uncle Clyde. We came to the Anes reunion in the late 1970's at Irma and Joe Barden. Aunt Grace had passed away by then. I have researched the Anes line for many, many years. We visit with Irma and her family . Last October we drove to Powell Co., Ky and found a couple of graveyards and wrote data down and made pictures. After we got to Michigan we spent a day and drove to cadillac to the cemetery. I made pictures of all the graves. Jean was so kind to meet us for lunch and had the graves all mapped out for me. Adaline had lunch with us also. They were so nice to us and we have talked with them since.

Susan, Yes my grandmother Mamie Anes Gonder is my grandmother. Clyde is her brother. They are buried in Cadillac, Michigan. I have Anes family history that I have recently researched but will need to go to the record I have at home to look for more information. You can reach me at flyboy8616@aol.com I'm Jim Hofstra Jenison, Michigan. or call me at 616 277-9920. Most of our family spell it Anes but some in the 1800 from Kentucky wanted to change the spelling to Ames. The family didn't agree in changing the spelling and therfore many left Kentucky and moved to Michigan. A family feud if you will... There are 12 or so Anes buried in Cadillac. I believe one of the brothers lived in Jenison before his death. Some of the Anes boys (Curt and John Anes played football for Kentwood HS and later for Grand Valley College...How are you related?

Jim,
Just now read your post. My grandfather is Clyde Dallas Anes (I think your grandmother's brother?) I'm completely stuck in the family tree at 1814 with Jacob Anes (I believe his wife was Leticia Burch and they had a son Jacob b. 1857) Do you know who Jacob's father was? I've been looking for quite some time and still have found nothing. My father told me that the name was "Anes" when they arrived in this country but in England some of the family started spelling it "Ames". The original Anes name is supposed to be from Portugal of the 1500's. I can't find the link that gets the Anes family back to England. Apparently two of the Anes' brothers from England were deported to Austrailia for crimes against the crown. There are many Anes' in Australia but I'm not sure if that is just a family myth or close to the truth. Do you know anyone who would have the names of Jacob's parents so that I can get the family back to Europe and continue my search? Thank you. If it is any help my family tree on Ancestry.com is called the Anes Family Tree.

AINES/ANES KY,WV, MI & ?

I am searching for my Anes family. I have found that several of them spelled it Aines. This is what I have so far:
Jacob Anes (spelled according to the 1870 census) b. 1814 Ky, mar. Leticia Burch, 1838 Estill Co., KY
children were:
Elizabeth, Anna, William, John S. (my gr gr grandfather)Benjamin F., Amanda, Albert H., Jacob M.
I know according to other census that most if not all of these children were born in KY. In the 1870 census it states that Jacob (the father) was born in KY, but it may have been WV. Some of these children spelled their name Anes and some Aines. Anna (Aines) married a Francis M. Frazier in 1864 in Estill Co., KY, they had eight children. John S. (Anes)married a Margaret Patton in 1867 in Powell Co., KY, they had nine children born in KY. Some of John & Margaret's children would move to Michigan (Antrim & Charlevoix & Wexford Counties). I have a photo of John S. & Margaret Patton Anes.
If anyone has any information on this family that they would be willing to share, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you
Susan

Misty, The relative I am talking about was named Twigs Harrison Haynes. His parents were Charlie W. Haynes and Mary Lindsey. He was born in July 1868 and was the brother of my great grandfather, Daniel Thomas Haynes. Other siblings were William Henry, Mary Lee, and Albert Washington. My grandfather remembers him stopping by the house with a posse in pursuit and my greatgrandfather stocked him up with food. He said he was on his way to Texas and that was the last anyone in the family heard from him. When his brother Albert died they hired someone to search for him because Albert had seft a small amount of money for him but he was not found. I hope perhaps that this is a connection.

Twigs Harrison had an unnamed twin that died when he was 4 months old.

Do you see any connection? If so, I would be delighted to hear from you. I would also be glad to share family genealogy with you if there is a connection.

Thanks, Earlene

Thanks, Earlene

He was the father of Joseph Aines, who had a son Clifford Aines, who had a son Clifford, who was father to my husband. I'd love to hear from you. We've just started researching the family.

I am searching for my G Grandmothers line of ascendents, her name was Cona Blanche Cofer Crecelius. Her Father was Andrew Jackson Cofer m. Samantha Heady, His Mother was Fanny Aynes m. Thomas Cofer. At my G Grandmothers funeral it was stated that she had Native American Heritage, I had never heard this before and I asked a G Uncle what tribe and he said very proudly, I might add, Cherokee. I would very much like to get in touch with my heritage but I can find very little about my GGG Grandmother. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time. Have a Great Day.

Earlene..Im not sure if your related or not...as i dont know much abt this side of the family. I do know there was one that was in trouble with the law....but dont know what for. I have been told that he murdered someone...and hid out with the indians while the law was looking for him. My line started out as AYNES and changed to AINES after this one committed the murder....as not to disgrace the family. My email is lifesmagik@aol.com if youd like to email abt all this. : )

Misty
