Thanks...any definite evidence linking the 2 names (Ansgot = Ainscough)would be great. Ive checked the Conqueror pages on Wiki already - thankyou. The Lincolnshire Ayscough families - of which there were many knights (fees) did become ardent protestants during the Lutheran era in Henry VIII time. However us lancashire Ainscoughs remained devout Catholics - many still are today - interesting!
