I'm very interested in your posting as my great great grandmother, Elizabeth Ainslie, emigrated to the US with her parents, John Ainslie and Elizabeth Hislop and surviving siblings George and Isabella on the Francis in 1831. Elizabeth later returned to Scotland ( probably after her father's re-marriage) in the early 1850's where she married Christopher Wilson in 1854, living in Kelso, Roxburghshire until her death. I believe one of the US members of the family married a Gooding, as the name sounds familiar. I should be very interested in more information on the US end of the family. I am in touch with some descendants there already. There are none of the family still in Scotland, but some descendants in England. Best wishes, Liz Wright

My clan stems from the Mayflower - Not under the name Ainslie but the bloodline of Thomas Rogers and Winslow come into our family history. I have a family background that goes directly to the Mayflower (e.g. Rogers, Brooks, Gooding)

I also know the ship (Francis), date (May 15, 1831),and names of direct-descendant Ainslie's that arrived in the US from Scotland and the name of an aunt that lived in Kelso. They moved into New York State.

Thanks again for sharing this information. We have updated our records. We did search the USS Branda Matthews using several different spellings and could find nothing about the ship. Do you have any idea about this? Thanks always and will be glad to share our information. Dave zenas5@yahoo.com

My Uncle, Doug Parsons, served as a Warrant Officer in World War II in the South Pacific Area. I have a couple of his diaries from that time which mention Cpl. Edgar Ainslie. My uncle was at Finschhafen, New Guinea in April 1944 and entries in his diary are as follows: April 11, 1944 - "Cpl. Edgar Ainslie instantly killed tonight at 2030 hours when he fell down hatch of USS Branda Mathews while seeing about the evacuation of sick & wounded from her. Too damn bad, a helluva good boy & hard worker in our dispensary. Col. Wells wrote a beautiful letter of condolence to his father." April 12, 1944 - "A very good job of embalming on Cpl. Ainslie. Funeral tomorrow at 1030 hrs." April 13, 1944 - "Ainslie's funeral this a.m. attended by all the boys in the office. Very nice & sure his folks would be proud of him if they knew how he was killed. A tough break." Col. Wells was the chief surgeon in charge of the base at Finschaffen and my uncle was assigned to his office. It is my understanding that those who died and were buried on New Guinea were later removed to this cemetery in Manila. It appears Cpl. Ainslie was well liked and respected and he was helping his fellow service-men when the accident happened I hope this may be of interest to any of his family members.

Hello,
I am looking for an English Annesley -girl- maybe Mary or Caroline born around 1800- who moved to Antrim, married Richard K Thompson and named one of her sons Millar Thompson (b 1834), he in turn had 9 children including Walter Annesley Thompson. If the Irish naming pattern was respected - and it works for the others then Walter Annesley 'should' be the name of his grandmother's father. I think! All the others had very long names , Walter only had the one - so I imagine it was important.
Lots of Annesleys in Northumberland - any links do you think?
thank you for your time,
Sally

George was owner of the Ainslie Art gallery in Brooklyn New York and I believe resided near the shore in New Jersey.
My grandfather, Robert, claimed that his father, George Ainslie, was affiliated with the Ainslie Galleries. I wasn't clear whether it was his father, or his father's father, who owned them. He had a brother, Lloyd, and a sister, Audrey. Mother's name was Marie. Robert and Audrey were put up for adoption by George Ainslie and adopted by separate families. Robert stayed in NYC and his sister went to Mexico. It is unknown why. My grandfather's last name became Hadden and he lived most of his life in upstate New York.

I wish to learn as much as possiblle about JAMES H. AINSLIE,
a Union soldier (perhaps in the 1st OH Heavy Artillery) who
served under Gen Slocum during Sherman's raid thru GA.
JHJA is said to have returned to GA (Madison, Morgan Co),
bought a few thousand acres of land and established a home
called ARDENLEA. A JHA paid taxes in Morgan CO in 1878 and again in 1900. There is a WALTER AINSLIE also listed as having paid taxes in those years. What is the relationship, if any?

Hello,
I am also researching Ainslies of Tasmania. My grandmother was Isabella, daughter of Alexander & Elizabeth Hyde Arbuckle. Alexander was the son Of Alexander Snr. who was the convict. I have quite a lot of info if you are interested. I have been researching the wider family also. I would love to know more about Arthur Montague Ainslie's marriage & children as I seem to have them mixed up. My mother was the daughter of Isabella & Alexander Creagh. Of him we know nothing except his war records. I am in Melbourne.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Liz Laidlaw

I don't know if I have told you before, but I had found this sampler. I was contacted by a lady who had found it in an Antique shop in Sturbridge, Mass. I think Maude Ainslie must have ended up with the sampler. Maude was an artist. She painted quite often in the Outer Banks, NC. I think that must be how the sampler migrated up to Mass. I purchased the sampler and had it hanging in my foyer. In 2006 my ex husband, Hugh Mauldin, came into my house and stole the sampler. He never wanted me to spend the money on it. I paid $2400.00 for it in 2003. I do have a copy of the book that has the sampler on the front cover. The lady and her daughter reproduced antique samplers. There is a pattern in the book. I am still looking for the sampler. No success to date! Let me know if you hear more of it. Go to the website: hillsidesamplings.com
Would love to hear from you again.
Hi,
Been off my Ancestry account for a bit....well, we must be related if you are descended from Mary Caroline Hogan! I am direct from that "Mary" line and TS Noble. I'll add you to my family tree so you can see what I have posted. I try to post actual documents or histories, but am still working on it (my mother has boxes of old letter and things going back to about 1850). From my end I am particularly interested in the Geddes end - I have been trying to track the Mary line (to confirm - or not - the "Mary line" (my sister is "Mary the ninth", my mother is "Mary the eighth", etc...I can confirm back to Mary Geddes (Borron) but have yet to confirm Mary Geddes mother's name. Anyhow, look things over and then email back.

Sarah

Ainslie, born June 1900, daughter of George J. or C, and Mary Louise Ainslie.
They were all born in Cohassett. The other children in the family were, Belinda, Dorothy, Welby and Herbert.
I am trying to learn George and Mary's parents and siblings and Mary's maiden name.
Thank you for any help.
This is amazing, I am an Ainslie, my great grandfather was George Ainslie, either from England or Scotland. George was sent from London to help design the sewage in Mexico City, Mexico. I am searching for his ancestors as well. I am married to a Cummings, and found that Cummings was Comyngs from Scotland in the 1200's. My husbands' great grandfather was Gideon Cummings, born in Indiana. I wonder if there is a connection between Gideon and the Cummings families in Pennsylvania? Where did you find this great piece of information? This is wonderful! Replies are most welcome, Susan
