Hello Judy, Thanks for sharing your info, it really helped me piece things together. I am keen to obtain a photo of Archibald or Charlotte Aird, as I am researching this link:
Gen 1: John and Charlotte Aird
Gen 2: Alexander Aird and Margaret Baird
Gen 3: Andrew Aird and Euphemia ("Faymie or Femie") McCall m 1920 Qld. They had 10 children, one of whom is married to my father.

Clare (cassfarr@bigpond.net.au)
Airds in Chicago from mid-1800s

Hi. My gr-grandfather Robert J. Aird was born in Chicago in 1857. His parents were from Scotland (presumably Glasgow). Because of the Chicago Fire, I've had trouble identifying who his parents or siblings were. His death certificate claims his parents were John Aird and Mary Bell - both listed as from Glasgow, Scotland). My cousin and I both found records of a potential family where the parents were Archibald Aird and Jane(t) Aird (nee Bell). While I know his death certificate could show the wrong parents due to bad information of the informant, the Robert Aird belonging to Archibald appears per the 1860 and 1870 US census was born in 1854 while my gr-grandfather was born in 1857.

If you've done research on Airds that came to Chicago from Glasgow in the mid 1850s, I'd love to compare notes with you.

Thanks much!

We may all be related to some degree. David and I are first cousins, and our grandfather, Frederick W. Aird, while living in Newfoundland, was a merchant seaman. He jumped ship in Boston, and that is how he came to the States. You cannot do that today. Now whether he and Rosemary Butt were married in Newfoundland or in Bangor, Maine where they raised their family, I have no idea. So there would be no record of that immigration.

David - Who knows? I'm a descendant of Thomas William Aird whose mother apparently landed at Newfoundland too, but due to a shipwreck. We have no concrete information on Canadian into USA travels of the family, but do know most of our Airds are from Ayrshire, Scotland. Good luck with the search!!

I am Navajo (enrolled) and Sisseton-Wahpeton Yankton and Scottish. My father was Mark Francis Robertson, my grandfather James Wapashaw Robertson, my great grand father was Thomas Robertson and my great great grandfather was Andrew Robertson. Andrew was Scottish and Thomas was Scottish and Sisseton, his wife was Wahpeton. I thought the Navajo census that listed my father and his sister as Navajo, Sioux and white was a mistake. I have only recently been able to determine this is true. I did not know anything about my fathers fathers family. my father was raised and born in New Mexico as a tradtional Navajo by a traditional Navajo medicine man. My father thought geneology was not important but traditional stories were. I asked my mother recently if she knew about this and she said she only remembered him saying he was decended from a "Chief" and when I asked her if it was Chief Wapashaw she said yes. My mother said my father was very humble and selfless.

I hope this helps you and if you would like to know more just e-mail me. I would like to find out how we are related I am sure we are through your father.

Beth Robertson

I was fascinated to see your note of an Aird family reunion in 08. My great-grandmother was Ida Aird Davis. I have just begun doing the searches on my family and found your question for a reunion fascinating. Whether we'd attend or not, depends on where locaed and when. My great-grandmother was and still is dearly loved by my mom. From what I can tell, (I never knew her), she was deeply religious and very kins. Just thought you might want to know.

Hi Bruce I had hoped that your Ann would have been the right one. Jessie Jack is my gr grandmother b 1833 in Avoch. She came to Aust in 1858 with Ann Jack.Maybe the print was smudged and it looked like 1858, it could have been 1853, but she did sail on the "Conway" so it can't be the same Ann. Jessie would have been about 25 yrs and Ann was a bit younger and your Ann was the closest I've come to the right age. They both went to a woman in Melb to work and Jessie marr and ended up in Cockatoo Reef, near Rushworth. Jessie and her husband are buried there. I'm hoping to go and see their grave and take a photo. An interesting point is that I live a few streets away from where your David and Ann are buried, do you have photos of their grave or would you like me to take some for you. Val

Hello Judy,
Sorry for prolonged delay in response.
If your still available for info on the Archie Haswell Aird family it would be appreciated. Coincidentaly, Archibald Haswell Aird was my wife's grandfathers name, who in turn was Charlotte's grandson (if that makes sense).
I've also since found out that an Elaine Aird married a Robert Wager before also emigrating to Australia in 1960 with their 4 kids.

All The Best

Gordon

Hello Judy,
Many thanks for the info, it's filled in a few Australian gaps.
My main line is with The Airds, however I'm still trying to discover if any direct line Aird's ie, from marriage of Charlotte and John still flourishing in Australia, In addition to trying to find some way of tracing an Elaine Aird who emigrated I think in the 50's after marrying in Scotland, unfortunately I can't find her married name.
I would be most interested in any photo's, the only one I have is of a marriage between an Alice Aird to an Edward Lax.

Cheers

Gordon

Hi Beth! How exciting to hear from you. I am a direct descendant of Chief Wabasha and it sounds like you are too. Incidentally, Wabasha was of the Santee Dakota Sioux. He had a Chippewa mother. His mother was sent home for safety's sake when war broke out between the Sioux and Chippewa. Wabasha and his brother stayed behind with their father. After an extended period of time, the mother remarried in her tribe and had sons, one of whom became Chief White Fisher. There is a wonderful story of his meeting with Wabasha when he is grown. It's so nice to know that we share a family tree. It's exciting to know that there are people who stayed with the Indian heritage. There are other cousins in the Robertson line that I keep in touch with. The tree is called Robertson, Brown and Lessert, I think. I am descended through the Aird, Mooers, Brown, McCollum lines. I am completely Scandinavian on my father's side. I have Indian ancestry through my mother. Her side also includes Scottish, English, Bavarian, German, Dutch, French and some old Nordic through an English line. I look very white, but many of my cousins do not. Some are taken for full blood natives. Please e-mail me sonjachilds@hotmail.com as well and I will dig out my files and give you more details tomorrow.

Hello, I am looking for any information about my G-Grandfather, Robert Clifton Smith and his parents. He was the son of Catherine Aird (12/22/1865) of Scotland and Robert Smith. Catherine's parents were: James Aird (1836) and his wife, Marion McVake (1841). Robert Clifton was a coalminer in Alabama and died about 1958 of brown lung. He was married to Fannie Clark. Any information would be helpful.
