Anne and Henry are my ancestors, too. They are the parents of John Howland, the Mayflower passenger, and his brother, Henry, who was my ancestor. I read somewhere that John returned to England and brought back his younger brother, Henry, some time between 1621 and 1623. Haven't been able to document this yet. Still looking for a passenger list.

As for Anne, I found an entry at either Ancestry or FamilySearch that listed her parents' names as John Aires and Avery (Surname Unknown), both from Essex Co., England.

Louise N.

Re: Aires family of Maryland

Banjamin Harrison Aires had at least one child that i know of: Edward, b btwn 1922-1929 who married Mryjo Fuller 10 aug 1963. They lived in pittsburg area - green county, i believe. Ben and Edward were surveyors and had their own business and had contracts with the county, I think. So, is Edward your father?

Benjamin was born 15 nov 1888, Baltimore,MD. Some records say it was 15 Mar 1888. He died jul 1972, pittsburg, PA. His parents were Andrew J. Aires (b. Apr 1839 (some records say dec 1837, 1838, Baltimore, MD) (sometimes spelled Ayres, Ayers, depending on the record) and Clarice MIller (b. oct 1845, Baltimore, MD).

Their children were George Washington Aires (b. 18 aug 1865, MD - d. 6 oct 1947 Baltimore, MD), William Wallace Aires (b.apr 1868, MD - d. 16 oct 1943, prince George co. MD), Sophia Aires (b. aug 1872), Laura F. Aires (b. nov 1874 - d. ?), Mary F. Aires (b. 1877), Andrew J. Aires (b. abt 1878, MD), and Benjamin Harrison Aires ( 15 Nov 1888, Baltimore, MD - d. jul 1972, pittsburgh, PA). Those are the ones I have records of.

Do you know why Ben moved to western PA? there is another branch of the Aires family that descend from Andrew's brother James who stayed in Baltimore until the last 20 years. Most are in Florida now. They told me that when their family held a wedding for Renee Aires ( I think in the late 60s or early 70s, that Uncle Ben was invited to come to it in Baltimore. He came and brought a carload of relatives with him. Then they lost touch.

Andrew and James father, James (b. 1806) married Ellen Sapp (b. 1810) in Baltimore in 1834. Ellen was born in MD and James was born in Pa. I have wondered if Uncle Ben - your grandfather - went west to return to an area where the family had settled earlier. i dont know where in Pa James was from.
Our Aires amily is full of engineers and survayors. My grandfather , son of William Wallace Aires was b. 1900 in baltimore and was an engineer. William Wallace was a surveyor in MD.

Sincerely, Cynthia O'connor

my email is cmjoconor@aol.com.

My Grandfather (Benjamin Harrison Aires) was born in Baltimore. My dad used to tell me that he was one of 17 brothers and sisters. The boys were named after presidents. He moved to Pittsburgh around the turn of the century and became a civil Engineer. He was born in 1888 and died in the 1970's. I'd like to find out about the rest of that family, as my father and grandfather has passed away. And I don't really have any other way of connecting to that part of the family.

Joseph F. Arie married Ethel May Ray

My grandfather was Joseph Foster Arie and he married Ethel May Ray. His dad's name was Joseph Arie who married Helen Scott in Red River Parish Louisiana. His dad as far as I can tell was also Joe Arie who married a lady by the name of Mary, but I don't have a lastname to go with all of this. I would like to have any information on anyone with this last name. I would like to find out everything that I can on these people. I have been searching for about a year and I just can't seem to find anyone with any information on this name. I have even tried changing the spelling and looked that way also. I have found a Jack Arie who married Martha Mattie Wise and he is some kin but I can't find out how he is kin. If you can help me with any of this information I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much. Becky

Rosetta Aires

Do you have any listing for a Rosetta Aires? She was my great great grandmother. She was born in 1840 and died in 1934. She is buried in Red Warrior, Kanawha County, West Virginia. She was married to Joe Cox. I have no idea who her parents were. Their son, James Elbert Cox, was my great grandfather. He was born in Summers County, West Virginia in 1881. He died in 1957 in Kanawha. They had at least another child, Laura. She was alive as late as 1960.
James had at least four half-sisters, I don't know if they were through Rosetta or Joe. They appear slightly younger than Laura. So, it is possible that Rosetta and Joe divorced and he remarried. I know that when Rosetta was older, she stayed with James' family. My grandmother use to tell me stories about her. How they would pretend to beat their baby brother up and he was Rosetta's favorite. Then, she would give him all kinds of candy. He would, in turn, give the candy out to all the other children. Well, I hope you may have some information on Rosetta. In the back of my mind (my grandmother has been battling alzhiemers for nearly 15 years and is now in the final stages), I keep thinking that she told me that Aires was pronounced Ires. Is this true? Thank you,
Kaci Helene Foster

Rosetta Aires 1840-1934 Buried in Red Warrior, WV Married Joe Cox

I am searching (been searching for six years) for information on my great great grandmother, Rosetta Aires. She was born in 1840 (according to her tombstone). She died in 1934 and is buried at the Red Warrior Cemetary in Kanawha County, WV.
She was married to Joe Cox. Their son, James Elbert Cox, was my great grandfather. He was born in Summers County, WV. They had at least one other child, Laura. James had at least four half-sisters, one of whom I think was named Ruby (according to a photo). However, I think that Rosetta and Joe may have been divorced because these half-sisters look younger than James and Laura. Rosetta spent her last days with James and his family. I can't find any census information in West Virginia about her. I don't know if it is the unique spelling or what. Her last name is spelled Aires in my grandmother's old bible. If anyone knows anything, please help!!!! Thank you, Kaci Helene Foster

Hello.

I am researching my Ayres/Ayers/Aires family surname. This is my Grandmother's maiden name; she is now 84 years young and I would like to solve a family 'mystery' for her. She is failing (aging) rapidly, so time is essential in my research.

I have a Zephaniah Aires who was the son of Benejah Ayers. Benejah was the son of Obediah Ayers Jr., son of Obediah Ayers, son of John Ayers.

Zephaniah Aires/Ayers/Ayres had a son Benjamin.

I have documented Benjamin's family down to the present (Benjamin was born between 1780 and 1790. This family lived in NJ.

I have a lot of clues but no documentation on the connection between Benejah and Zephaniah nor the connection between Zephaniah and Benjamin.

I have a LOT of Ayres/Ayers/Aires information to share, including Benjamin's son Forman Ayres family bible information.

We are talking the Shrewsbury area, Upper Freehold and surrounding areas of Monmouth County.

I do have some land records, but there is no 'connection' information.

Lia
